Shareef Clinton – California University of Pennsylvania (Football)

Major:  Undecided, possibly sports management

Final list of colleges:  California, Slippery Rock, Shippensburg

Reasons for choosing California:  “It just felt like it was home. It also had nice support with the academics, and it was more than just football. I made my decision the day I visited. I knew it was good. I visited the other schools, but I didn’t feel like I did at Cal.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate football?  “It all really happened after my 10th grade season. I just felt I wanted to be successful in life, and I saw that football would be the only way I could do that. I started hearing from schools after my 11th grade season. It was a little stressful, but I learned to deal with it.”

Coach Ed Cubbage says:  “Shareef is a big kid – he’s 6-6, 270, and what stood out for me is he came a long way. He transferred into Truman about halfway through his freshman year, and when he first came to us, he was just a big kid. He’s worked really hard the last two years to make himself into an athlete and into a football player. His hard work to change his body and put himself into a position to get a college scholarship was just awesome for us.
“For as big as he is, Shareef has good feet. He’s a good athlete, and most schools that were looking at him – that’s what they saw. They saw a big kid who was an athlete.”
