BASEBALL
Freshman Bobby Reddick (North Penn) closed the door on Harford’s seventh inning comeback and earned his first save of the season in Northampton Community College’s 9-8 win over Harford Community College on Saturday.

Senior pitcher Joseph Crane (Council Rock South) tossed a scoreless inning of relief in Chestnut Hill’s 4-2 win over Lynn University on Friday. Junior leftfielder Joseph Mullin (Central Bucks South) singled in the game-winning run in the top of the seventh to put Chestnut Hill on top 3-2.

David Pine (Council Rock North) went 2-for-4 and scored three runs in Millersville’s 7-2 win over Glenville State last Sunday.

Mike Bradstreet (North Penn) tossed a two-hitter in the University of Rhode Island’s 3-0 win over Ohio on Saturday. Bradstreet held the Bobcats hitless until a leadoff single in the top of the seventh. It was the deepest a Rhode Island pitcher had taken a no-hitter since Sean Furney went 6.1 hitless innings against George Washington last April. Bradstreet went the distance, allowing just two singles and no walks. He faced 29 batters – two more than the minimum – and struck out 10 on the afternoon. It was the first complete game for the Rams this season.

Dan Hinchcliff (North Penn) was 1-for-1 and drew a bases-loaded walk in Catholic University’s 6-0 win over Messiah on Thursday.

Junior Keith Moyer (Souderton) earned his second career save in East Stroudsburg’s 6-4 win over UMass-Lowell on Saturday.

Connor MacFarlene (Council Rock North) earned the win on the mound in Penn State Abington’s 17-3 win over Clark University on Saturday. Teammates Chris Hunter (Pennsbury) and Robert Morak (Abington) each threw a scoreless inning in relief. AJ Vaglianini (Norristown) contributed a two-run single and also scored two runs while Will Erskine (North Penn) had a hit and two RBIs. In Monday’s 6-5 loss to Centenary, Erskine was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Casey O’Donnell (Hatboro-Horsham) allowed just two hits and one run in 5.1 innings of relief in Philadelphia University’s 9-1 loss to UMass-Lowell on Monday. Sophomore Ken McCormick (Pennsbury) had two of Philadephia’s five hits. In Saturday’s, 14-2 loss to West Chester, McCormick had all three of his team’s hits.

Dylan Tice (Pennridge) was 9-for-10 with four RBIs and four runs scored in IUP’s doubleheader sweep in Maryland on Saturday. Tice was 4-of-5 with a pair of runs scored in IUP’s 6-2 win in game one, and he was 5-for-5 with four RBIs in IUP’s 13-0 win over Bluefield State in game two. Teammate Robbie Zinsmeister (North Penn) was 4-for-8 with a triple, two RBIs and five runs score on the afternoon. In last Sunday’s doubleheader loss to Concord, Zinsmeister had a pair of home runs while Tice had five hits. Jared Weed (Council Rock North) threw a scoreless inning of relief in IUP’s 6-5 loss to Concord.

Brandon Bell (Norristown) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and teammate Pete O’Hara (Council Rock North) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored in Delaware Valley’s doubleheader split with Arcadia University. The Aggies won the opener 5-4 but dropped the second game 4-3 in eight innings.

Dean Direnbach (Central Bucks West) struck out four and allowed four earned runs in Cairns University’s 6-0 loss to No. 12 Keystone College on Saturday. In a 10-0 loss to Keystone in game two of Saturday’s twinbill, Joey Nieves-Markee (Bensalem) got the second start of his career, working three innings, striking out three and allowing only four hits.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh)
had five blocked shots in St. Joseph University’s 70-53 loss to No. 18/19 Saint Louis on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 82-56 win over Fordham, Aiken was sidelined due to a bruised back and sprained wrist.

Freshman Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) scored a team-high 23 points in Villanova’s 73-64 overtime loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon. In Monday’s 66-65 loss to Seton Hall, Arcidiacono led the Wildcats with 16 points.

Senior Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) scored a game-high 24 points in Temple’s 76-70 win over Rhode Island on Saturday. In Thursday’s 83-78 win over Detroit, Wyatt scored 20 points in the second half, including 12 in the final two minutes to help Temple rally from behind for the win. He also had seven assists while making two steals.

Philadelphia University senior guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) was named to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference team. Connolly is a three-time member of the all-conference team after being named to the second team this season. He is second on the team with a 14.4 ppg and 36.9 minutes per game. Connolly a first-team selection as a junior and a second team pick as a sophomore – led the Rams with 65 three-pointers and an 85.3 free throw percentage. He was second in the CACC in free throw percentage, fifth in made three pointers, sixth in minutes per game and 19th in scoring. In his career, Connolly has scored 1,501 points to place him 21st on Philadelphia University’s all-time scoring list, and he is third in school history with 277 made three-pointers.
Connolly was 9-of-11 at the free throw line on his way to a 15-point effort in Philadelphia University’s 68-62 win over Post in the opening round of the CACC Tournament on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 74-73 Senior Night win over Chestnut Hill, Connolly knocked down a step-back three-pointer from the left wing with 3.7 seconds to give the Rams the victory. He finished the night with a team-high 17 points and four rebounds. Five of his points came during a key 11-2 run that helped Philadelphia turn a 66-59 deficit into a 70-68 lead with 1:29 to go.

Sophomore Michael Guldin (Pennridge) scored nine points in No. 2 DeSales University’s 69-58 loss to No. 3 Juniata in the semifinals of the ECAC South Region Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The loss ends the Bulldogs season with a 22-7 overall record. In DeSales’ 73-60 win over Moravian on Wednesday, Guldin had five points, four rebounds and four assists.

Ursinus College junior point guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) was named second team All-Conference. He was third on the team with 11.4 points per game and shot close to 40 percent from the field. He also averaged four assists per game and 4.6 rebounds a contest.

Chris Davis (Norristown) had six points, six rebounds and seven assists in Alvernia’s 97-78 win over Albertus Magnus in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Saturday. The Crusaders will face St. Mary’s (Md.), an 85-76 winner over MIT, in the second round on Saturday.

Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 14 points in Randolph-Macon’s 69-60 win over Stevens Institute of Technology in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets advance to the second round and will play Worcester Polytechnic Institute on March 9.

Junior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) scored 12 points in Cabrini’s 80-78 win over No. 16 Hampden-Sydney College in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday. The Cavaliers will face North Coast Athletic Conference champions Ohio Wesleyan University in the second round.

Goldey-Beacom junior guard AJ Picard (Souderton) was selected to receive honorable mention recognition on the 2012-13 All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference squad. It is the second straight season he received this honor after averaging 15.6 points per game with a team-high 68 assists. The only Goldey-Beacom player to start all 26 games this season, he made 41.9 percent of his field goal attempts, including 47 of 138 shots from three-point range. In addition, he ranks ninth in the CACC with an .825 free throw percentage. Picard scored 10 or more points in 21 of 26 games this season, including 13 of the Lightning’s final 14 contests. He also scored 20 or more points in a game six times, including a career-high 38 points against Chestnut Hill on Jan. 15 in the Lightning’s 105-99 loss. He made 10-of-21 shots from the floor, including a 5-for-11 effort from three-point range, while adding a 13-for-14 performance from the free throw line. Honored as the CACC Player of the Week for his career-high effort, Picard finished the game just one point shy of the Goldey-Beacom single-game scoring record. He also matched a season high with eight rebounds against the Griffins along with four assists. A two-year starter for the Lightning, Picard will enter his senior season as the 11th-leading scorer in school history and will need just 106 points to become the ninth player in school history to score 1,000 career points. He also ranks third on the Lightning’s all-time list with an .814 career free throw percentage.

Sophomore guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 10 points in East Stroudsburg’s 102-44 win over Bloomsburg on Wednesday. With the win, ESU captured the PSAC East regular season title, its third in school history.

Junior guard Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) scored 15 points, 12 of which came in the first half of Bloomsburg’s 101-68 loss to Mansfield in a PSAC first round game on Saturday. He also had three steals.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North)
contributed five points and three rebounds in American University’s 69-52 win over Lafayette on Saturday.

Freshman Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) had a season-best eight points and two rebounds in St. Joseph University’s 87-50 win over Massachusetts on Wednesday.

Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) contributed 15 points, six steals, three blocked shots and seven rebounds in Millersville’s 42-31 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 72-62 loss to Shippensburg, Newman scored 17 points to move into fourth place on the school’s all-time scoring list.

Freshman Helena Gemmell (Council Rock North) had five rebounds, two points and two steals in East Stroudsburg’s 86-57 loss to Bloomsburg on Wednesday night. Gemmell is third in the PSAC in steals with 2.6 per game. Her 63 steals this season are six away from a spot in ESU’s top 10 and are the second most by a freshman behind Stacy Perryman, who had 75 in 1992-93.

Shippensburg’s Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week last Monday for the seventh time this season and the third time in four weeks. Knauer averaged a double-double last week with 18.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game while shooting 12-of-19 overall from the floor and 12-of-15 from the free throw line. SU went 2-0, completing season sweeps of West Chester and Cheyney. In the road win over the Golden Rams, Knauer recorded her second consecutive double-double and 11th of the season, posting 21 points, a game-high 16 rebounds (two off her career best) and tying her career high with three steals. She shot 7-of-12 from the field and 7-of-9 at the line for her sixth 20th-point double-double of the season. In SU’s win over Cheyney, Knauer added 15 points, four rebounds and two assists on 5-of-7 shooting and a 5-of-6 effort from the charity stripe.
Knauer recorded a double-double in Shippensburg’s 72-62 win over Millersville in the Raiders’ regular season finale on Wednesday, finishing with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. It was her 12th double-double of the season. She also was 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

Colleen Hinde (Wissahickon) scored nine points in Neumann University’s 72-52 loss to Moravian on Wednesday.

Junior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) had four points, five rebounds and two assists in Cabrini’s 52-44 loss to Catholic University on Friday in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. The loss ends the Blue and White’s campaign at 24-4 and ends a program best 19-game win streak.

Emily Leer (Abington) contributed five points and two rebounds in Villanova’s 52-49 loss to St. John’s on Wednesday.

Danielle Derr (Upper Dublin) scored seven points in Bloomsburg’s 86-57 win over East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night.

MEN’S LACROSSE
Senior Heath Kupecky (Upper Merion) scored two goals and also contributed two assists in Messiah College’s 13-10 loss to Ursinus on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 13-11 win over Marymount University, Kupecky scored a pair of goals.

Craig Hunsberger (Pennridge) had two caused turnovers in Elizabethtown’s 7-2 win over Neumann on Saturday.

Senior Johnny Casey (Abington) scored four goals and contributed an assist in Widener’s 11-8 win over Swarthmore on Saturday.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Becky Ely (Council Rock North)
contributed a goal in No. 11 Messiah College’s 10-8 loss to No. 4 Gettysburg on Saturday.

Lauren McDermott (North Penn) scored four goals and contributed an assist in La Salle’s 13-12 win over Delaware on Friday night. In Wednesday’s 21-5 win over Long Island, McDermott had two goals and one assist.

SOFTBALL
Junior Stephanie Farrar (North Penn) recorded a hit in each game of Gwynedd-Mercy’s doubleheader to Methodist on Thursday in Fayetteville, N.C. The Griffins dropped both games. In last Sunday’s 8-1 loss to Guilford, Farrar had two hits and two stolen bases.

Senior hurler Devon Utterback (Central Bucks South) tossed a one-hit shutout in West Chester’s 17-0 win over Bowie State on Saturday. Kim Begley (Abington) was 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and a pair of runs scored.

Sophomore Liz Parkins (Souderton) tossed a four-hit shutout, striking out eight to lead Shippensburg to a 9-0 win over Pace on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 16-1 five-inning win over Davis & Elkins, Parkins went the distance to earn the win.

Freshman Lauren Klepchick (Central Bucks South) was 2-for-3 with one RBI in the University of Rhode Island's 6-5 loss to Hartford on Saturday.

Freshman Mollie Burrell (Souderton) doubled and scored a run in Philadelphia University’s 9-7 loss to Lock Haven on Saturday.

Freshman Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) had a hit and two RBIs in Lehigh’s 3-2 win over Columbia on Saturday.

Freshman Haileigh Stocks (Central Bucks South) was the top performer in Robert Morris University’s doubleheader loss at the hands of Marshall on Saturday, finishing the afternoon 3-for-6 with a home run, her first career triple, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Stocks notched her second homer and third double of the season and has six extra-base hits in six games played this season. She tallied her first multi-hit game in the opener and her second multi-RBI effort. In Friday’s 6-0 win over Buffalo, Stocks delivered a pinch hit RBI double.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Gettysburg sophomore Ashton Levens (Upper Dublin) earned first team all-Centennial Conference honors as a member of both the 400 freestyle relay and the 800 freestyle relay. Levens finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.78 at the Centennial Conference Championships. His time was his second B-cut of the championship. Junior Sean Staerk (Abington) earned first team all-conference honors in the 800 freestyle relay.

Chris Willcox (Upper Dublin) turned in an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 1:52.41 in the 200 fly for the second fastest time in Hartwick history.

Penn State sophomore TJ Schenkel (Council Rock South) finished 29th in the three-meter preliminaries with a score of 250.15 at the Big Ten Championships. Schenkel finished in 29th on the one-meter board preliminaries with a score of 249.35.

La Salle senior Daniel Fitzgerald (Upper Dublin), in his last individual swim, touched in 45.35 in the 100 freestyle for a seventh place finish at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship last Sunday.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin)
was part of Arizona’s first place 200 medley relay at the Pac-12 Championships on Wednesday, posting a time of 1:36.22 to edge USC and Stanford for Arizona’s first PAC-12 relay title since 2010. The team also broke its previous best time of the season (1:36.46) recorded in November. The time ranks as the fifth fastest in the country this season. Lafferty also was part of Arizona’s gold medal 200 free relay that posted a time of 1:27.93. It was the first time the Wildcats won the 200 free relay at the Pac-12’s since 2009. The time is currently the third fastest in the country. On Friday, Lafferty was part of the winning 400 medley relay that posted a time of 3:28.91. The time was just short of a school and American record of 3:28.31 set by the 2009 squad, but it was the fastest time nationally this season. Lafferty finished fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.10. On Saturday, Lafferty finished fifth in the 100 free with a time of 48.74.

Junior Ali Roth (Central Bucks West) was part of the winning 400 free relay in the A final that clinched the conference championship for Gettysburg. Ellie Houser (Upper Dublin) was part of Gettysburg’s 400 free relay that edged Ursinus in the B-final of the Centennial Conference Championships.

Ursinus sophomore Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) earned first team 2013 Centennial Conference honor as part of the winning 400 and 800 free relay teams. She was second in the 400 medley relay. In last Sunday’s 2013 Centennial Conference Women’s Swimming Championships, Kozior finished fourth in the 100 free with a time of 53.79. 

Franklin & Marshall’s Taylor Mateja (Upper Merion) finished eighth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:15.49 in last weekend’s Centennial Conference Championship. Franklin & Marshall finished third overall.

TCNJ junior Maria Ciaralli (Pennsbury) received All-NJAC First Team honors in the 200 medley relay.

TRACK & FIELD
West Chester sophomore Jay Jabat (Pennsbury) earned all-region accolades by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association. Jabat was a recipient in the high jump after winning the PSAC Championship in that event last weekend, claiming West Chester’s only PSAC Championship title when he hit an NCAA provisional height with his 6-foot, 8 ¾ inches clearance. It was his first conference title.

 

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Stevenson junior Austin Jacoby (Pennridge) was named CVC Player of the Week for the weekend ending Feb. 28. It is his first weekly honor. Jacoby was named to the All-Tournament First Team at the Baruch Invitational last weekend, leading the Mustangs to a 3-1 record with victories over Emmanuel, No. 10 Rivier and No. 11 Elmira before falling to No. 15 MIT in five sets. Jacoby totaled 63 kills and a .362 hitting percentage in four games and 16 sets, averaging 3.94 kills per set. He also had 29 digs, six block assists and four service aces. He had a season-high 19 kills versus Rivier and MIT.
Jacoby led Stevenson with 19 kills and a .333 hitting percentage in No. 11 Stevenson’s 3-2 lost to No. 6 Stevens on Saturday. Freshman Ryan Chinnici (Pennridge) had four kills and five digs in Stevenson’s 3-0 win over Hilbert on Saturday.

Senior outside hitter Noah Prickett (Pennsbury) finished with game-highs in both kills (11) and digs (8) in Cairns University’s 3-0 loss to No. 7 SUNY-New Paltz on Saturday. Earlier in the day in Cairns University’s 3-0 loss to Eastern Mennonite University, Prickett and Ethan Mawhinney (Neshaminy) combined for 27 kills with Mawhinney notching a career-high 16 kills while Prickett tallied 11. In Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to No. 10 Baruch College, Ryan Garven (Council Rock North) had a game-high nine kills while Prickett had a team-high five digs.

WRESTLING
Ursinus sophomore 157-pounder Richard Jasinski (Pennridge) was named to the 2013 All-Centennial Conference first team. He was selected first team by virtue of winning his bracket at the 2013 Centennial Conference Championships.
Jaskinski, wrestling at 157, finished fifth at 157 at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday. Jaskinski opened the day with a technical fall over Tyler Cunningham of Gettysburg in seven minutes at 18-3. After defeating Leo Wortman of Stevens by injury default, he dropped a 6-2 overtime decision to Kris Krawchuk of Wilkes.
