Upper Moreland Baseball Preview

UPPER MORELAND BASEBALL PREVIEW

Coaches: Ernie Rehr, 6th season

Assistant coaches:  Ken Irwin, Ryan Young, Mike Ciccotti,

2012 Record: Overall 16-7, League 14-4 (Split SOL American Championship)

Key losses: SS Sean Valenza, 2B Ryan Snyder, OF Tyler Foerst, P Mike Janas (playing at the University of Sciences), C Zach Donnelly, P Kyle Walder

Key returnees:  Seniors – Robert Knox, OF; Matt Kohn OF; Pat Driscoll, C; Charlie Hooker, P

Others to watch: Mike Cavanaugh, INF;  Nick Corbett, INF;  Kyle Irwin, INF; Drew Finnie, C; Tommy Robinson, P; Eddie Decker, P; Colton Hooker, INF; Jason White, OF

Strengths: Upper Moreland is deep at the Outfielder spot and pitching.  With a solid base returning from last year’s championship team they are well versed in the SOL American competition.

Question marks: The infield lost some key pieces.  Upper Moreland looks to some rising stars to fill in and play solid defense. Who will fill the shoes of Kyle Walder?  If it’s Charlie Hooker, who will fill his role as number two pitcher from last season?

Outlook:  The players are setting out to compete for a third straight conference title and their third consecutive appearance in the District I title game.  This team should be a competitive bunch with a great upside.  In the early season they seem focused and determined to reach their goals.
