SOL Boys/Girls Lacrosse Wrap (3-28-13)

BOYS
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 17, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 5
The Bucks led 3-2 after one period of Thursday’s game between the neighboring rivals, but that lead disappeared quickly in a second quarter that saw the Patriots go on a 6-2 tear to take an 8-5 lead into halftime. The second half was all East as the Patriots – behind solid defense and goaltending - outscored the Bucks 9-0.
Matt Schmidt scored a game-high four goals while Matt Milici had a five-point night, contributing three goals and two assists. Matt Heim (two goals, two assists) and Cole Rushworth (one goal, three assists) both had four-point games. Anthony Caselli and Geoff Kuhn both had two goals, and Zach Kane had one goal and one assist. Matt Brown and Dustin Buchanan each added single goals.
Rushworth won 19 of 22 face-offs for the Patriots while Peter Donovan led the way defensively with five groundballs. Rushworth, Buchanan and Zach Kane had three groundballs each.
The Bucks were led by the two-goal efforts of Riley Kratzke and Jimmy Seykort. Sam Piccone added a single goal, and Corey Schott had an assist. Kyle Schecter was credited with seven groundballs to lead the Bucks defensively.
Mike Harvan had 11 saves in goal for West while East’s Shawn McSherry had five saves.
The Patriots are 2-0 (1-0 SOL), and the Bucks are 0-2 (0-1 SOL).

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 12, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 5
Brendan McGrath scored six goals and also contributed an assist to lead the Titans to Thursday’s convincing nonleague win. McGrath’s six-goal effort was just one shy of South’s team record of seven goals in a single game. The record is held by CB South’s current offensive coordinator, Chris Mohapp.
The Titans also received two goals each from Tyler Strayline and Tommy DiBrino. Anthony Paone and Jake Snavely each added one goal. All-league goalie Ryan Kelly was credited with six saves in the win.
The Titans are 2-1 (1-0 SOL), and the Indians are 0-2.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 18, JOHN BURROUGHS 3
The Hatters won their first game at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in impressive fashion on Thursday. Kyle Mullin (three goals), Zach Irwine (three goals, three assists), Pierre Armstrong (three goals), Jimmy Murphy (two goals, three assists) and Jimmy Durkin (four assists) led the Hatters offensively. Steve Palo and Connor McPoyle each added two goals while Ryan Higgins (two assists), Connor Kreston (one assist) and Tony Zollo all scored single goals.
Palo, who dominated face-offs, led the team defensively with six groundballs.
Marc Poust was credited with 13 saves in goal for the Hatters, who also received standout defensive performances from Jake Cresta, TJ Keleher, Keith Cameron, Matt McPoyle and Jack Lavery.
The Hatters (1-1) will face Milton Hershey High School at 8 a.m. on Friday.

ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC 8, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 7
The Colonials and Vikings found themselves locked in a classic battle in Thursday morning’s nonleague tilt. The two teams were deadlocked 2-2 at the end of one quarter, but the Vikings held a 4-3 edge in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 6-5 lead. That turned out to be the difference in the game.
Corey Kelly contributed the hat trick to lead the Colonials while Ryan Kelly added two goals and Alex Bilodeau, two assists. John Walker and Jake Brown both had contributed one goal.
Kelly won 6-of-11 face-offs for PW.  Riley White was credited with 11 saves in goal for the Colonials (2-2).

Allentown Central Catholic     2-4-1-1 =8

GIRLS
SOUDERTON 11, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 6
The Indians found themselves staring at a 6-5 halftime deficit but turned up their defensive and offensive pressure in the second half, outscoring the Bucks 6-0 en route to the important win.
Amber Lambeth led the Indians with four goals and two assists. Alexa Schneider had three goals, and Chessie Rehmer had two goals and two assists. Alyssa Ziegler, Michelle Goodwin and Natalie Bulger each had one goal.
Jacqueline Fitzgerald led the Bucks with the hat trick while Elena Romesburg, Sarah Gebre and Paige Savard each added single goals.
Souderton goalie Jen Bergey was credited with 10 saves while West’s Kyra Bregere had eight saves.
The Indians are 2-0 in SOL play while the Bucks are 1-1 (1-2 overall).
