BASEBALL
Craig Lepre (North Penn) went 3-for-3 and finished a triple shy of the cycle in the University of Albany’s 5-4 loss to Cornell on Tuesday. He drove in two runs and scored three runs.
Philadelphia University sophomore outfielder Ken McCormick (Pennsbury) earned the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference’s baseball player of the week award for the week ending March 24. In five games, all Ram victories, McCormick posted a team-high .600 batting average (12-for-20) with eight RBIs and scored three runs. McCormick started his week off with a 2-for-5 performance against Chestnut Hill. In a doubleheader sweep of Lincoln (Pa.), McCormick was a combined 5-for-8, including a 4-for-4 second game, and four RBIs. In two wins over Concordia (N.Y.), McCormick was 2-for-4 with one RBI in game one and a perfect 3-for-3 and drove in two runs in the nightcap. This season McCormick is leading the team in batting average (.372), hits (32), RBIs (12) and stolen bases (five). In the CACC, McCormick is second in hits, fourth in total bases (36), seventh in batting average, eighth in RBIs and 10th in doubles (four).
McCormick was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBIs in Philadelphia University’s 14-8 win over Nyack in game two of a twinbill on Saturday. In Philadelphia’s 11-3 win, McCormick had a hit and scored a run. In Thursday’s 4-1 win over the University of the Sciences, McCormick had a pair of hits, including a double, and one run scored.
Kutztown sophomore outfielder Brandon Martinez (North Penn) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 24. He battled .464 over eight games, had a team-high 13 hits and 10 RBIs, hit his first career home run and was a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. Martinez opened the week by recording a multi-hit game in five of his first six games. He went 6-for-6 in the doubleheader at Shaw with two stolen bases. He also had four straight games with two RBIs. In the second game at home against Mansfield, Martinez hit his first career home run. For the season, Martinez leads Kutztown with a .423 average and 12 RBIs. He’s tallied 22 hits in 52 at-bats and has only struck out five times. He’s a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen base attempts and has nearly doubled his season output from last season in most offensive categories.
Martinez was 5-for-7 with two runs scored in Kutztown’s doubleheader split with 14th-ranked Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon. Senior catcher Matt Albaugh (North Penn) went 4-for-6 with three runs scored. Albaugh has reached base safely in 16 straight games. In Kutztown’s 7-3 win in game one of the twinbill, both players went 3-for-4 at the plate. Kutztown’s 8-2 loss in the nightcap snapped Millersville’s 11-game winning streak. The winning streak was the program’s longest since 2010. In Kutztown’s 4-3 win in game one of Millersville’s doubleheader sweep of Shippensburg on Friday, Martinez was 2-for-4 while Albaugh contributed an RBI single. In Wednesday’s 5-3 win over Felician College, Martinez led off the game with an infield single, stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice fly. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Albaugh.
Moravian sophomore Matt Hanson (Central Bucks West) is ranked in seven NCAA Division III statistical categories. He is 37th in doubles per game at 0.53, tied for 20th in triples with three, tied for 23rd in doubles with nine, 81st in slugging percentage at .619, tied for 90th in triples per game with 0.18, tied for 93rd in stolen bases with eight and tied for 98th in hit by pitch with five.
Hanson was 5-for-6 in Moravian’s 17-9 come-from-behind win over Susquehanna on Saturday. In Friday’s 2-0 loss to Susquehanna, Hanson contributed a double.
Freshman David Blount (Harry S Truman) had two of his team’s eight hits in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 4-2 loss to Rowan on Thursday.
David Pine (Council Rock North) was 1-for-3 with an RBI in Millersville’s 7-0 win over Bloomsburg in the second game of a doubleheader sweep on Friday. In Millersville’s 4-1 win, Pine also had an RBI.
Alec Jacob (Pennsbury) picked up his second win of the season in Lock Haven’s 9-2 win over Gannon on Friday. He allowed just four hits and struck out two in a complete game effort. In Lock Haven’s 7-3 win over Slippery Rock on Thursday, Ryan Henritzy (Council Rock North) went 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases.
Patrick Campion (Norristown) was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, Joseph Crane (Council Rock South) was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored, Raymond Puskar (Pennridge) was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and Brian Happ (Central Bucks South) contributed a double and scored a run in Chestnut Hill’s 10-9 loss to defending NCAA Division II champion West Chester on Wednesday.
Junior Keith Moyer (Souderton) threw an inning of relief in East Stroudsburg 8-0 win in game two of a doubleheader sweep of the University of the Sciences on Saturday. In East Stroudsburg’s 15-8 win over Saint Rose in the nightcap of a twinbill sweep, junior Jake Ruch (Abington) didn’t allow a hit and struck out two while pitching the fourth inning.
Senior shortstop Jake Kohler (Upper Dublin) was 2-for-4 with an RBI while teammate Jake Neiman (Quakertown) was 1-for-3 with a run scored in Ursinus College’s 10-8 win over TCNJ on Thursday. In Saturday’s 17-5 loss to Gettysburg, Neiman had a pair of hits.
Senior Mike Bradstreet (North Penn) saw his scoreless inning streak come to an end at 32.2 consecutive frames – the longest in the country by any Division I pitcher this season – in Rhode Island’s 6-2 loss to Dayton on Friday.
Drew Frankenfield (Wissahickon) had a pair of RBIs and teammate Zach Philippi (Harry S Truman) earned the win on the mound in York College’s 3-2 win over St. Mary’s College in game one of a twinbill on Saturday. Philippi tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief, fanning a pair. Frankenfield also had an RBI in York’s 6-1 win in the nightcap. In Wednesday’s 9-2 loss to Randolph-Macon, Frankenfield had a pair of hits.
Pete O’Hara (Council Rock North) had a pair of hits in Delaware Valley’s 4-3 loss to Manhattanville College on Friday. In Thursday’s 12-3 loss to Manhattanville, Brandon Bell (Norristown) had a pair of hits.
Tyler Coleman (Quakertown) was 2-for-3 with an RBI in West Chester’s 2-1 win over Mansfield in game two of a doubleheader sweep of Friday. He also had a hit and RBI in the Golden Rams’ 9-0 win in game one. In Wednesday’s 10-9 win over Chestnut Hill, Coleman was 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Greg McCuch (Upper Merion) allowed one hit and one run in an inning out of the bullpen.
Freshman pitcher Joey Nieves-Markee (Bensalem) came six outs away from earning his first career win in 7.1 innings pitched, striking out four and allowing only four hits in 9-7 loss to St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn on Wednesday. Senior Jeremy McAlack (Council Rock North) was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
Dan Hinchcliff (North Penn) singled and scored a pair of runs in Catholic University’s 7-4 win over Juniata on Saturday. In Friday’s 8-0 win over Juniata, Hinchcliff was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Junior Greg Welsh (Council Rock South) threw a career-high eight innings in Penn State’s 7-5 loss to Purdue on Sunday, allowing nine hits and three earned runs while walking three. The junior hurler also posted a career-best performance of 11 strikeouts in a single game, topping his previous record of six set in 2011.
James Smith (North Penn) contributed an RBI and scored a run in St. Peter’s University’s 7-5 loss to Wagner on Saturday. In Friday’s 1-0 loss to Juniata, Smith had a base hit.
Robbie Zinsmeister (North Penn) was 1-for-3 with a double in IUP’s 4-0 loss to Mercyhurst in game one of a twinbill on Saturday. In a 5-4 loss in the nightcap, Zinsmeister was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored while teammate Dylan Tice (Pennridge) delivered a two-run single. In IUP’s 3-0 win in eight innings over Mercyhurst in game one of a doubleheader on Friday, Tice delivered an RBI single to give the Crimson Hawks a 1-0 lead in the eighth. He finished the day 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Zinsmeister went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. In Mercyhurst’s 3-2 win over IUP in game two of the twinbill, Tice went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Sophomore Billy Fleming (Council Rock South) singled and scored a run in West Virginia’s 4-3 win over New Orleans on Saturday.
Bobby Reddick (North Penn) saw action out of the bullpen in Northampton’s 18-4 win over Delaware County Community College on Wednesday.
Redshirt sophomore Matt Hollenbeck (Hatboro-Horsham) held South Florida hitless for 5.2 innings in Georgetown’s 7-2 win on Saturday, finishing the game by going six innings and yielding two runs on two hits with five walks and three strikeouts.
Senior closer Eric Ruth (North Penn) threw a scoreless ninth inning to record his fifth save in Winthrop’s 4-2 win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 8-4 win over Davidson, Ruth threw 1.2 scoreless, hitless innings in relief, fanning four.
Jesse Kohler (Upper Dublin) recorded the final out of the fourth inning to get out of a jam by stranding two base runners in Oberlin’s 6-3 loss to St. John’s University (NM) on Wednesday in Tucson, Arizona. In Oberlin’s 11-10 loss to Carleton on Monday, Kohler threw 4.2 innings, scattering six hits while walking two and fanning two. He allowed six runs but just one was earned in the no-decision.
Tyler Orr (Neshaminy) was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI in Eastern Universtiy’s 15-4 win over Manhattanville College on Tuesday.
Jordan Hofferman (Cheltenham) earned the win on the mound in Arcadia’s 4-2 win over Messiah College on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits in five innings. In Tuesday’s 19-8 win over Valley Forge Christian College, Harry Daut (Bensalem) contributed an RBI single.
Kristopher Davis (Central Bucks East) earned a complete game win on the mound in Elizabethtown’s 4-2 win over Dickinson on Wednesday, allowing seven hits, walking two and striking out four.
Connor MacFarlene (Council Rock North) allowed just four hits and three earned runs in Penn State Abington’s 4-2 loss to Swarthmore on Wednesday.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Temple senior guard Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) has been selected to the 2012-13 NBCA All-District 4 Team. Wyatt, who was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and first team USBWA All-District II, is one of five members of the team, joining Rotnei Clarke (Butler), Ramon Galloway (La Salle), Caz Williams (UMass) and Juvonte Reddic (VCU). Wyatt was the Atlantic 10’s leading scorer (20.5 ppg) and led the Owls in scoring 22 times while winning game-high scoring honors 17 times. His seven 30-point games top the conference as did his 18 games of 20-plus points. Wyatt ended his career with back-to-back 31-point games and was the leading scorer in NCAA Tournament play in the opening weekend. The Norristown grad has earned four conference Player of the Week citations as well as six such honors from the Philadelphia Big 5. He became the 12th Temple player to score 600 points in a season, and his 697 points ranks eighth on the Owls all-time single-season list. He tallied 1,576 career points to rank 13th on the program’s all-time list. The Temple playmaker also topped the team and ranked seventh in the A10 in assists per game (4.0 apg). He ranked sixth in the league in free throw percentage (.836), eighth in three-pointers made (2.2 pg) and ninth in steals (1.7 spg). His 204 made free throws this season broke Hal Lear’s single-season Temple record (189) set in 1956-57.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) contributed four points and three rebounds in ninth-seeded Princeton University’s 60-44 loss to eighth-seeded Florida State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament last Sunday. It was the Tigers fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Emily Leer (Abington) scored five points and had two steals in Villanova University’s 60-52 loss to Michigan in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif., on Sunday.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Elizabethtown junior midfielder Craig Hunsberger (Pennridge) was named the Commonwealth Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 25. Hunsberger led the 5-1 Blue Jays with five goals and an assist for six points on the week. He scored four fourth-quarter goals, including the game-winner at Immaculata. The Pennridge graduate also added an assist and won 11-of-18 face-offs. Again Misericordia, Hunsberger scored his second game-winner of the week. He was part of team history, winning all seven face-offs to help Elizabethtown hold an 11-0 advantage over the Cougars, the first time they’ve won every face-off in a game in the program’s 11-year history. Hunsberger finished with 13 ground balls in two games.
Hunsberger scored two goals and had a team-high six ground balls in Elizabethtown’s 10-7 win over Lycoming on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 12-6 loss to 2012 NCAA quarterfinalist and 17th-ranked Union, Hunsberger scored a pair of goals, won six face-offs and had seven ground balls.
Junior Garrett Rosiek (Wissahickon) scored three goals and contributed five assists in Aurora University’s 15-8 win over Huntingdon College on Wednesday. He also had four ground balls in AU’s sixth straight win.
Senior Johnny Casey (Abington) scored two goals, including his team-leading 21st goal of the season, in Widener’s 6-4 win at 13th-ranked Gettysburg on Wednesday. Casey moved into a tie for sixth in school history with Steve Littlewood (2000-03) with 125 goals, and he is now 10th with 178 points.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Junior defender Brittany Hanrahan (North Penn) picked up three ground balls and caused a team-high three turnovers in St. Joseph University’s 7-6 win over Temple in Friday’s Atlantic 10 opener.
Ashley Bossert (Wissahickon) scored two goals in No. 13 Bloomsburg’s 11-10 loss to No. 15 Mercyhurst on Saturday. She also had four ground balls. Aubrey Bossert (Wissahickon) had four draw controls, and Carly Ball (North Penn) had two draw controls and two ground balls. Maggie Canavan (Springfield) also contributed a goal. In Wednesday’s 12-5 loss to second-ranked West Chester, Ball and Ashley Bossert each had two ground balls. Aubrey Bossert had four draw controls.
Goalkeeper Lauren Mateja (Upper Merion) recorded her fourth double-digit save total of the season, tallying 11 saves in Millersville’s 18-8 loss to No. 2 West Chester on Saturday. Hannah Vogel (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a pair of goals. In Wednesday’s 22-12 loss to IUP, Vogel contributed a goal and assist and three ground balls.
La Salle senior captain Lauren McDermott (North Penn) scored the 100th career goal this month to help the program secure its best nonconference record and best start in program history. McDermott, who has 106 goals for her career, hit the milestone in the Explorers 14-13 come-from-behind win at San Diego State on March 8. She tallied three goals in the contest, the first of which was her 100th. She added both the game-tying and game-winning goals against the Aztecs. McDermott scored 34 goals in her freshman campaign to help the team to the Atlantic 10 Tournament, then added 23 and 28 in 2011 and 2012 respectively. She has scored 21 this season.

In Wednesday’s 17-12 win at Boston College, Amy Cross had two goals and three ground balls while Kelly Cross also had two goals.
Kelly Hamilton (Central Bucks South) contributed the hat trick in No. 11 Lock Haven’s 17-6 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday. She has 25 goals, four assists and 29 points on the year. Lindsay Walbrandt (Souderton) had two caused turnovers to lead the defense. In Wednesday’s 19-8 win at Shippensburg, Hamilton had eight goals.

D’Anna Devine (Pennsbury) had a hit and scored three runs in the University of South Florida’s 8-2 win at Villanova on Wednesday.
Senior Deanna Dungee (North Penn) improved to 9-0 on the season, allowing just two hits in Alvernia’s 9-0 win in five innings over Widener on Thursday.
Freshman Haileigh Stocks (Central Bucks South) had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the sixth of Robert Morris University’s 2-1 win over Mount St. Mary’s in the second game of a twinbill on Friday.
Devon Utterback (Central Bucks South) tossed a four-hit shutout in West Chester’s 6-0 win over East Stroudsburg in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday, scattering four hits while walking two and striking out four in seven innings. Ali Vavala (Central Bucks East) was 2-for-4 with a triple and RBI while Erin Quense (Neshaminy) and Laura Altenburger (Neshaminy) each contributed a hit and RBI. In West Chester’s 5-3 loss in the second game, Quense had an RBI single. In West Chester’s 8-5 win over Kutztown in game one of a twinbill on Friday, Altenburger hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to break a 4-4 tie. It was her first career home run and highlighted a six-run fifth. That was all Utterback needed to pick up her eighth win of the season. Vavala went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, and Quense hit a run-scoring double. Jess Schuck (Council Rock South), playing in her first game since March 10, had a pinch hit single that plated a run. In West Chester’s 9-3 loss in the nighcap, Altenburger was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Gabbie Berry (Norristown) delivered an RBI single in Millersville’s 2-0 win over Philadelphia University in game one of a twinbill on Saturday. Rightfielder Stephanie Kulp (North Penn) gunned down a runner at the plate in the fourth inning, helping to preserve the shutout. In Kutztown’s 2-1 win in game two of the doubleheader, Danielle DiFilippo (Hatboro-Horsham) singled and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kulp also had a hit in the win. The Marauders improved to 19-7 overall, their best start through 26 games in program history. In Friday’s 9-1 win over East Stroudsburg in game one of a doubleheader, DiFilppo was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Kulp was 1-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI. In Millersville’s 2-0 win over Goldey-Beacom in game one of a doubleheader on Wednesday, Kulp was 2-for-3 with a run scored while DiFilippo was 1-for-2 with a double and run scored. In the Marauders 8-7 loss in game two, Berry had one hit and two RBIs.
Junior Rachael Alligood (Harry S Truman) pitched a complete game seven innings to lead Holy Family to a 7-1 win over Chestnut Hill in game one of a twinbill on Thursday, allowing three hits and one run. She also struck out five and lowered her team leading earned run average to 1.47. Senior Deanna Myers (William Tennent) tallied a pair of hits on the afternoon and in the process recorded her 100th hit. Myers run-scoring single in the seventh inning of game one was career hit 100. In Holy Family’s 2-0 win in game two of the twinbill sweep, sophomore Kelsi Bunda (Pennsbury) finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate while teammate Lindsey Iden (Council Rock North) also had a hit.
Junior Stephanie Farrar (North Penn) belted her third home run of the season, a solo shot to right field, in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 4-3 win over Arcadia on Thursday. She singled and scored a run in a sixth inning that saw the Griffins score a pair of runs.
Kelly Hendrickson (William Tennent) collected her first double of the season in Cairn University’s 19-3 loss to Swarthmore on Thursday.
Freshman Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) drilled a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning as Lehigh rallied to defeat Bucknell 3-1 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. In Lehigh’s 6-1 win over Bucknell in the first game of a twinbill on Friday, Decker led the Mountain Hawks with two hits, including a double and a run scored. In Wednesday’s sweep of Hofstra, Decker led the Mountain Hawks, going 3-for-5 with a pair of walks to take over the team lead in batting at .386. Decker delivered an RBI single off All-American Olivia Galati in game one and also hit her seventh double of the season in the nightcap.
Alexandra Schafer (Pennsbury) contributed an RBI single and scored two runs in Arcadia University’s 11-10 loss in 13 innings to Hood College on Thursday. In Wednesday’s 13-4 win over Gwynedd-Mercy, Schafer hit a two-run triple.
Freshman Lauren Klepchick (Central Bucks South) had a double, single and two walks in the University of Rhode Island’s doubleheader split with St. Bonaventure on Friday. Her two-run double in the fourth inning helped ice URI’s 6-2 win in game two. In URI’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of Harvard on Tuesday, Klepchick singled in both games, scored one run and added her team-best 10th walk in the second game. Defensively, Klepchick had a career-high six assists in the first game and added three more in the second.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Senior Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin) was part of Arizona’s second place 400 free relay that posted a school and American record time of 3:10.63 at the 2013 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, smashing the previous school record by almost a full second. That swim eclipsed the previous American record of 3:10.87 set by Stanford last year. She also was part of Arizona’s second place 400 medley relay that posted a time of 3:28.83, breaking a school record established earlier this year. Lafferty was part of Arizona’s third place 200 free relay that posted a time of 1:27.51 as well as the third place 200 medley relay that finished with a time of 1:35.69. All four relay teams earned All-American honors. Individually, Lafferty earned All-American honors in the 100 butterfly, placing sixth with a time of 52.02. She earned honorable mention All-American status in the 50 free and the 100 free. Lafferty finished 11th in the 50 free with a time of 22.33 and was 15th in the 100 free with a time of 48.51.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
St. Joseph University junior Jonathan Eisemann (Central Bucks South) was part of the 4x400 relay team that took home gold at the Lafayette 7-Way Invitational on Saturday, posting a time of 3:18.33. He also was part of the fourth place 4x100 relay team that finished with a time of 42.18. Individually, Eisemann earned a fourth place finish in the 200 meters (22.05). Sophomore Matthew McGarvey (Central Bucks West) was part of St. Joe’s third place 4x400 relay that posted a time of 3:19.34.
Luke Rotenberger (Quakertown) and Sam Brooks (Wissahickon) were part of Elizabethtown’s winning 4x400 relay at the Capital Area Classic on Wednesday, posting a time of 3:31.93. Rotenberger also finished second in the 400 hurdles, and Brooks finished second in the 800 meters.
Sophomore Matt Bee (Central Bucks West) was part of Shippensburg’s first place 4x800 relay team that posted a time of 7:46.32 in Saturday’s Fred Hardy Invitational. Dan Dreeman (Council Rock South) finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.03.
West Chester’s Nick Drozd (Central Bucks South) finished first in the 800 meters at Saturday’s Towson Invitational, posting a time of two minutes, 0.53 seconds.
University of Penn freshman Drew Magaha (Upper Moreland) opened the season with the 21st best time in the U.S. in the 800 meters at the Philadelphia College Classic at Franklin Field on March 23. His finish of 1:51.58 placed him first in the event over several teammates. At this weekend's Raleigh Relays, Magaha finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 1:50.09.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
St. Joseph University sophomore Kayla Charles (North Penn) turned in a personal best 14.62 to finish second in the 100 hurdles at the Lafayette 7-Way Invitational on Saturday. She also was part of the 4x400 relay team that took third with a time of 3:54.96.
Shippensburg senior Caitlin Stuetz (Cheltenham) finished fifth in the 400 hurdles at the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond on Friday, posting a time of 1:02.87 to nearly obtain a NCAA provisional qualifying time. On Saturday, Stuetz took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.68 seconds. Monique Clemons (Wissahickon) was part of Shippensburg’s sixth place 4x400 meter relay that posted a time of 3:54.17.
Ashley Underkofler (Central Bucks South) was part of Elizabethtown’s first place 4x800 meter team at the Capital Area Classic on Wednesday, posting a time of 10:03.16, which was the sixth fastest time in the school’s outdoor history. Jackie Zylka (Souderton) was part of the second place 4x100 relay that posted a time of 51.63.
Messiah College’s Brenda Flaherty (North Penn) finished third in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 39:20.80 at the Danny Curran Invitational on Thursday at Widener University. Her time is good for No. 9 on Messiah’s all-time top 10 list in the event.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Senior Austin Jacoby (Pennridge) had a team-high 15 kills in ninth-ranked Stevenson’s 3-1 win over Baruch on Wednesday. He now has 925 kills for his career as he moves closer to becoming just the second player in school history to reach 1,000. In Stevenson’s 3-1 loss to Lancaster Bible, Jacoby had 13 kills and a .423 hitting percentage.
WRESTLING
Bucknell sophomore 285-pounder Joe Stolfi (Souderton) pinned 12th-seeded Adam Chalfant and posted a decision over Michigan’s Benjamin Apland at the NCAA Wrestling Championships on March 22 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Those two wins brought Stolfi within one victory of becoming the sixth wrestler in program history to earn All-America honors, but his path through the consolation bracket was stopped by No. 10 seed Jarod Trice of Central Michigan. The unseeded Stolfi went 1-1 on the first day of the three-day NCAA Championships. He opened Friday’s competition against Chalfont of Indiana. The two met in the regular season with Chalfant walking away with a 13-4 major decision. Stolfi avenged that loss as he pinned Chalfant in 6:38 to advance to the third round of the consolation bracket where he registered a 6-2 decision over the unseeded Apland to improve to 3-1 during the tournament. The win over Apland set up the meeting with Trice with All-America honors on the line. Already a two-time All-American, Trice defeated Stolfi by a 7-3 decision to earn his third All-America certificate. Stolfi, who finished third at the EIWA Championships to earn an automatic berth to NCAAs, was wrestling at the national tournament for the first time. After an injury-shortened freshman season, he put together one of the best seasons by a heavyweight in program history. He was 16-3 in his last 19 bouts entering the NCAA Championships, posted an eight-match winning streak and did not lose back-to-back bouts after Jan. 6. With just 49 career bouts under his belt, Stolfi had much less experience than his opponents at NCAAs. Stolfi was the lone Bison in action at the NCAA Championships. Thanks to Stolfi’s three victories, Bucknell was listed 46th in the team standings with 3.5 points.
