Julia McGovern – Quinnipiac University (Softball)

Major:  Business or Neuroscience

Final list of colleges:  Quinnipiac, Gettysburg, Haverford

Reasons for choosing Quinnipiac:  “I visited the school, and I really liked the coach. I also feel as though they got to know me. They were following me for a while, so I could tell they had interest in me, and that was kind of endearing.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate softball?  “It kind of becomes real when you hit your sophomore year, and you realize – two more years of high school and then what? It got serious around that time with all the letters and stuff, and the recruiting really started for me in my junior year.”

Coach Dave Chichilitti says:  “Julia is so versatile. Whether she’s catching or whether she’s playing first base, she adds so much to the team in the leadership aspect as well. She’s a great gap hitter. She always squares the ball up solidly, and she is so deceivingly quick defensively. She’s an excellent defender. We’re lucky to have a player like Julia, and she’s going to be a great addition to their university as a student and as an athlete. I expect Julia to go there and to step in right away and be productive for them. They’re getting quite a player in Julia.”
