Souderton’s Rick Young has made a verbal commitment to accept a full scholarship to attend Villanova University.
Rick Young, a 6-2, 290-pound lineman from Souderton Area High School has verbally committed to attend Villanova University, the recipient of a full scholarship. A first team all-SOL selection on both sides of the football during both his sophomore and junior seasons, the rising senior is projected to play nose guard (defensive tackle) at Villanova.
“We had over 30 schools come in and try to evaluate him,” coach Ed Gallagher said. “He had been to a lot of one-day camps, and he had a lot of options.
“He liked Villanova from day one. He played with Javon White, so this is a great opportunity for him to be reunited to 
play Division One football. It’s a great school with a great program. It was almost a no-brainer.”
Young received honorable mention 2012 PFN Class AAAA All-State recognition. He received second team All-Southeastern Pennsylvania as both a sophomore and junior.
