Laureana Zrada – Bucknell University (Swimming)
Major: Mathematics
Final list of colleges: Bucknell, West Chester, Penn State, Villanova
Reasons for choosing Bucknell: “I chose Bucknell because it reminds me a lot of home. The campus is really pretty, and on top of all that, the pool facilities are gorgeous. I looked at (other schools), but Bucknell was always my top choice.”
What was the progression that led you to swimming at the collegiate level? “I’ve been swimming ever since I was little, and it’s always been a dream of mine to continue and swim at the collegiate level.”
Coach Caitlin Warren says: “Laureana really looked forward to the future. She’s not your typical day-to-day girl that lives by the day. She really tries to think of the impact people - herself included - are going to make in the long run. She’s really a forward thinker compared to a lot of the kids I coach. Just her critical thinking skills, her cognitive skills are amazing. Even now, she’s been to all but two practices this summer, and she graduated. That’s really, really impressive. She’s very driven, she’s very motivated, and she loves swimming. She really truly loves it. I could give her a set to do and not even watch her, and she will do it to the best of her ability, and there are not a lot of kids who will do that. Your true character is revealed when people aren’t watching you. I would have to leave sometimes for grad school, and I would leave her practicing with the distance kids, and I knew they would get all of it done. The other distance swimmers were motivated, but she is by far the most motivated.”
