Kristyn Marinelli – Lafayette College (Softball)
Major: Government and Law
Final list of colleges: Lafayette, Colgate, Penn, Princeton
Reasons for choosing Lafayette: “I really liked the small liberal arts atmosphere and the whole atmosphere of the campus. The coach and the whole team kind of swayed my decision too because they seemed like a really accepting group of girls – girls I’d like to be around. The academics are something I really strive for, and that’s why I chose Lafayette.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate softball? “I had always wanted to play in college. It really started my freshman year – I played on two teams that really promoted playing in college, so that was really helpful. I started pursuing academic schools and didn’t stray away from that because I knew I wanted to go to a school where my academics would be first and athletics would supplement my academics.”
Coach Dan Hayes says: “Kristyn didn’t get much time last year with Haileigh (Stocks) on the mound, but she’s been pitching for a long time, and she knows how to pitch. She’s not a strikeout pitcher, but she locates her pitches and keeps batters off stride. She throws ground balls. She certainly became a leader of the team and helped us on both sides of the ball on offense and defense.”
