MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Ursinus College sophomore David Slade (Abington) was 11th overall at the Cairn Invitational on Saturday, posting a time of 28:53. Ursinus finished second as a team with a score of 76 points in an 11-team field.
Shippensburg’s Alec Brand (Central Bucks East) finished 26th with a time of 20:09 in the season-opening Galen Piper Alumni Open/Cross Country Challenge on Friday night. Shippensburg finished second to the Raider alumni as a team.
Junior Chris Campbell (Council Rock North) finished third overall with a time of 18:00 in Penn State’s 15-40 win over Lock Haven on Friday at the annual Dolan Duals at West Branch Cross Country Course. Senior Nick Scarpello (Central Bucks West) made it six Lions in the top 10, thanks to his ninth place finish.
Bloomsburg freshman James Wilson (Central Bucks South) finished 15th with a time of 16:52.94 at the season-opening Flatland Invite on Saturday.
East Stroudsburg sophomore Dan Davis (North Penn) finished fifth with a time of 27:31.05 at the Fordham Invitational on Saturday. ESU won the Division II/III/NJCAA classification.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
East Carolina freshman Caitlyn Sheva (Pennridge) finished sixth overall with a time of 18:50.51 at UNC Wilmington’s Seahawk Invitational on Friday. The Pirates had six runners in the top 10 and captured the team title.
Kutztown junior Carolyn Fergus (North Penn) finished 16th overall with a time of 15:43 in the 4K Galen Piper Invitational hosted by Shippensburg University on Friday. Junior Elizabeth McLaughlin (Upper Dublin) finished 42nd with a time of 16:33. Eighty-four runners from eight teams participated. Kutztown finished fourth overall.
Bloomsburg’s Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) finished 10th overall in the Mansfield Flatland Invitational on Saturday, posting a time of 19:45. The Huskies finished first as a team.
Millersville senior captain Megan Meyer (Central Bucks South) made her return to action after missing the 2012 season with an injury and was clocked at 19:55 at the seventh annual Alumni Open 5K to finish second overall.
FIELD HOCKEY
Taylor Prichett (William Tennent) scored a pair of goals, including her team-leading fifth of the season, in Delaware Valley’s 7-3 rout of Neumann University on Saturday. DelVal is 3-0 on the season. In Wednesday’s 3-2 come-from-behind win over Arcadia, Prichett also scored a goal.
Junior back Blaire Wilkie (North Penn) contributed a goal in the University of Scranton’s 3-1 win over Marywood on Friday.
Freshmen Marissa Glatt (Central Bucks East) and Gabby Tofig (Council Rock North) both scored their first collegiate goals in Lehigh University’s 5-4 loss to Penn on Friday. In Sunday’s 1-0 win over Towson, Glatt scored the game’s only goal.
Sophomore forward Kayla Kenney (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist in Villanova’s 2-1 win over Siena on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Christina Maida (Central Bucks East) was credited with seven saves in No. 3 Princeton’s 3-1 win over No. 10 Duke on Friday, shutting out the Blue Devils until the 63rd minute.
Gwynedd-Mercy sophomore Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) was honored by the Colonial States Athletic Conference in its first awards of the season. O’Neill was selected to the CSAC Field Hockey Honor Roll as her career-high three assists helped the Griffins to a 5-2 win over Misericordia. She served as the Griffins’ main penalty corner set-up as the Griffins scored on four of their 11 corners on the day.
O’Neill scored her team’s lone goal with an assist from teammate Maria Karidas (Council Rock South) in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 4-1 loss to Susquehanna on Wednesday.
Freshman Dana Adamson (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist in Widener’s 4-2 win over Neumann on Wednesday.
Senior Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) scored a pair of goals to lead La Salle to a 3-0 win over UMass Lowell in its home opener on Sunday.
Rachel Valentine (Souderton) scored her first goal of the year in Lock Haven’s 5-0 win over Georgetown on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-2 overtime win over Cornell, Colleen McCabe (William Tennent) scored Lock Haven’s first goal. In Lock Haven’s 1-0 win over Bucknell last Sunday, Rebekah Hershey (Souderton) helped lead The Haven’s strong defensive effort.
FOOTBALL
Dave Damirgian (Council Rock South) contributed six tackles, including 1.5 for a loss, in Monmouth University’s 45-15 loss to Liberty on Saturday.
Sophomore Cody Reimel (Pennridge) had seven solo tackles and one assisted tackle in Randolph-Macon's 38-14 loss to Johns Hopkins. He also broke up one pass. Teammate Jesse Knepp (Pennridge) had one pass reception.
Senior safety Mike Goode (Norristown) led all players with 11 tackles in No. 7 Shippensburg’s 33-0 loss to No. 25 Shepherd on Saturday.
Reggie Slaton (Bensalem) had nine tackles and one sack to lead the defense in Millersville’s 47-16 loss to LIU Post on Saturday.
Junior Craig Needhammer (North Penn) contributed 86 yards on 12 carries in Lycoming’s 30-2 loss to Brockport on Saturday.
Junior wide out Josh William (Central Bucks South) caught five passes for 99 yards and a score in Ursinus College’s 28-20 win of The College of New Jersey on Friday in the opener for both teams.
Shawn Leo (Souderton) connected on a 25-yard field goal in West Chester’s 45-14 upset of No. 12 New Haven on Saturday.
Anthony Robey (Norristown) recovered a fumble on the two-yard line in Temple’s 22-13 loss to Houston in an American Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon in front of 27,328 fans at Lincoln Financial Field.
MEN’S GOLF
Senior Mike Johnson (Hatboro-Horsham) shot a two-under 70 last Monday to move up the leaderboard into 23rd place to help the La Salle golf team to a 10th place finish at the season-opening Turning Stone-Tiger Intercollegiate hosted by Missouri. Johnson shot a 76-75-70=221 (+5) for the 54-hole event.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Middlebury College junior Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) shot 76 and 80 to tie for fourth place overall at the St. Lawrence University Collegiate Invitational Golf Tournament held at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course in Canton, N.Y. The Middlebury team placed third out of nine teams in the first tournament of the fall season, which took place on Saturday and Sunday.

Keeper Dan Saint-Pol (Pennridge) was credited with eight saves as Penn State Abington came up just short in its upset bid of seventh-ranked York on Saturday, falling 2-1. In Thursday’s 4-3 overtime win over Brandywine, senior Marco Paparo (Abington) scored a pair of goals, including the game winner. In last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Hampden-Sydney, Paparo contributed an assist.
Anthony Manero (Council Rock North) contributed an assist on the game’s only goal in Bloomsburg’s 1-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday.
Freshman forward Ryan Molyneaux (Souderton) scored a goal in Ursinus College’s 4-2 win over Widener on Wednesday night. Widener junior Troy Czapor (Council Rock South) was fouled on a play that resulted in a free kick and goal for the Pride.

Alicia Roberts (Upper Moreland) led the Wilkes University offense with three shots in the Lady Colonels’ 2-0 loss to Richard Stockton at the Catholic Tournament played in Washington, D.C.
Molly Phillips (Pennsbury) contributed a goal and an assist in Gettysburg’s 7-0 win over Shenandoah University on Wednesday.
Junior Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) scored her first goal of the season in Holy Family’s 3-1 loss to New York Tech on Saturday.
Tattie DePaolo (Pennridge) contributed an assist in IUP’s 6-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Thursday.
Captain Erin Lafferty (Upper Dublin) scored her first goal of the season five minutes into the second overtime to propel Temple to a 1-0 win over Loyola Maryland last Sunday.
Ashley Saylor (Central Bucks South) and Cara Deola (Council Rock South) both scored goals in No. 7 West Chester’s 3-2 loss to Kutztown on Sunday. On Thursday, junior Carly Yost (North Penn) scored two goals and assisted on another to lead West Chester to a 3-0 win over Mansfield. Her second goal was headed in on a corner kick by Saylor.
Sophomore Megan Kelley (North Penn) scored a goal in Millersville’s 2-1 win over Edinboro on Thursday. The win broke a 10-year losing streak to the Fighting Scots.
SOFTBALL
Holy Family’s Kelsi Bunda (Pennsbury) and Lindsey Iden (Council Rock North) were recipients of the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Awards. The Academic Achievement Award is a program that recognizes student-athletes at the Division II level. In order to receive the award, the student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years and been an active member of an intercollegiate team during the academic semester.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Gwynedd-Mercy senior Rachel Fein (Wissahickon) was honored by the Colonial States Athletic Conference in its first awards of the season. Fein picked up the CSAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after not dropping a set in three singles wins at the No. 1 spot. She led the Griffins to a 3-0 start, earning a 6-0, 6-0 victory over her opponent from Cedar Crest and earned two pro-set wins over rivals from Misericordia and Rutgers-Camden at the Moravian Team Tournament.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Franklin & Marshall middle hitter Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) was named the Centennial Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 2. In F&M’s 4-0 start, Harvey averaged 4.0 kills per set and committed only 11 errors in 90 attempts. Her .411 hitting percentage led the team, along with her 1.33 blocks per set. In a four-set win against Penn State-Berks, Harvey registered 25 kills while committing only two errors for a .657 hitting percentage.
Harvey had a team-high 11 kills and four blocks In Franklin & Marshall’s 3-0 sweep of Lebanon Valley at the Lebanon Valley Tournament on Saturday. The Diplomats improved to 8-0 on the season, their best start since beginning 2004 at 5-0.
Junior Dana Wisniewski (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed five service aces and five blocks, both career bests, in Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Gwynedd-Mercy at the Greg Giovanazzi Memorial Invitational at Johns Hopkins University on Saturday. Teammate Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) added 26 assists and four service aces. In Cabrini’s second match of the afternoon, a 3-0 win over N.C. Wesleyan, Kristy Riley (Hatboro-Horsham) recorded four service aces and 11 digs. Koenig chipped in with 38 assists. In Cabrini’s 3-0 loss to Stevenson on Friday, Koenig had 17 assists.
Junior captain Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed 13 kills and five digs in the University of Connecticut’s 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh in the finale of the 2013 UConn Classic on Saturday night. Maugle was one of two Huskies to earn All-Tournament honors. In UConn’s 3-0 sweep of Albany earlier in the day, Maugle contributed a match high nine kills, seven digs and two service aces. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Hartford, Maugle had 13 digs.
Leah Brown (William Tennent) posted 47 assists while teammate Heather Kobrzynski (Central Bucks South) had four aces for Penn State Abington in the two-day Buttermaker Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg University. In the Nittany Lions 3-1 loss to Rutgers-Camden, Brown had 18 assists while Kate Schalck (William Tennent) had six kills. In Penn State Abington’s 3-1 loss to Neumann, Brown posted a double-double with 13 digs and 22 assists.
Senior Sarah Godfrey (William Tennent) contributed nine kills in Lebanon Valley’s 3-0 win over Penn State Altoona on Friday. In Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Alvernia, Godfrey tallied a pair of aces.
Freshman Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) contributed 11 kills in No. 17 Eastern University’s 3-2 loss to Williams on Friday.
Sophomore Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) had a team high eight kills in Kutztown’s 3-0 loss to New Hampshire on Saturday. In KU’s 3-0 win over Davis & Elkins later in the day, Stringer finished with 15 kills, totaling 54 for the year. In Friday’s 3-2 loss to Caldwell College, Stringer led the team with 15 kills and tied her career high with nine total blocks. In Thursday’s 3-1 win over Philadelphia, Stringer led her team with 16 kills, which represented a career high. She also led the team in block assists with four and had two solo blocks.
