COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, ABINGTON 2 (OT)
The Ghosts threw a scare into the Golden Hawks, rallying from a 2-1 halftime deficit to knot the score and send the game into overtime. The Golden Hawks wasted little time settling the outcome, scoring 17 seconds into the OT period when Kristin Donohue connected, using a Kirsten Meihofer assist. The loss overshadowed the standout 29-save effort of Abington goalie Tia Barndhardt.
“My goalie was phenomenal,” Abington coach Amanda Deering said. “My team played very well considering that we played CB West in a tough aggressive game yesterday.”
The Ghosts were coming off a 6-3 loss to the Bucks while the Golden Hawks were coming back off a tough game of their own – a 2-0 loss to Central Bucks South.
The Golden Hawks got on the scoreboard first when Sam Olson scored an unassisted goal at the 15:42 mark of the first half. The Ghosts tied the score three minutes later on a Heather Trainor goal (Lizzy Petermichl assist).
That 1-1 tie held up for all of two minutes before Donohue connected on the go-ahead goal to send the Golden Hawks into halftime with a 2-1 lead. With 5:10 remaining in regulation, Dana Miller scored the equalizer, using a Jess Moretti assist. The Ghosts’ defense kept Rock South off the scoreboard in the second half only to watch the Golden Hawks win it just seconds into overtime.
Abington falls to 2-2 overall (0-1 SOL) while the Golden Hawks also evened their mark at 2-2 (1-0 SOL). Abington will travel to Council Rock North on Thursday while Rock South will host Harry S Truman.

PENNSBURY 5, BENSALEM 1
Emily Zazzu scored a pair of goals while teammates Erin Trapp, Sarah Zazzu and Rachel Pierce each added a single goal to lead the Falcons to the big win.
The Owls broke up Pennsbury’s shutout bid when Autumn McBride scored with 2:51 remaining in regulation, using an Allison Hornickle assist.
The Falcons are 2-2 overall (1-0 SOL) while the Owls are 0-1. Pennsbury will host William Tennent on Thursday while Bensalem will play at Neshaminy.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1, QUAKERTOWN 0 (OT)
Elena Romesburg scored four minutes into overtime to propel the Bucks to the dramatic win in a night game at Quakertown.
“A lot of games we’ve been in so far we’ve been very dominant – it’s been mostly down in our half, and the only thing coming at our defense has been breakaways,” West coach Courtney Hughes said. “Today was a more sustained defensive effort in that Quakertown had a more continuous offense coming at us, and that’s why it was really good to see the defense respond with their first shutout of the year against a league opponent, which was huge.”
The Bucks held a 23-8 advantage in shots and a 12-4 edge in corners.
“It was really back and forth for most of the first half,” Hughes said. “We were getting more shots, but they were just as dangerous coming down into the circle. A lot of midfield play was happening.
“Towards the end of the first half and in the second half, we started to outperform them on both sides of the field. It was a matter of finding a way to score.”
The Bucks saw a corner goal waved off with the official ruling the ball did not go outside the circle.
“We just kept pounding away,” Hughes said. “Their goalie (Maddie Calder) had some really good saves. I really commend her. She had some great stops.”
Calder finished the game with 14 saves.
Hughes lauded the effort of her defense.
“Our defense is really focusing on being ready for that sustained attack,” Hughes said. “Our whole defensive line – Jacq Fitzgerald, Caitlyn Lowery and Carson LaGreca – they all really played well tonight. They made adjustments when we needed to make adjustments.”
“Jacq and (goalie) Bre DeAngelis played some incredible defense in the last few minutes of regulation and first few minutes of overtime.”
According to Hughes, Erick Fiorelli and Kim Hitchcock continued to play well.
“They have been on fire,” the Bucks’ coach said. “They are just so high octane that it just kept our offense going.
“Our last three games have been grass games, and since we’re not a great grass team, the fact that we’re diving, getting all those shots and pulling out the wins says a lot. It really feels like it’s starting to come together, so that’s exciting.”
The Bucks improved to 4-0 (1-0 SOL) while the Panthers are 2-2 (0-1 SOL). West returns to action Wednesday when the Bucks will host Central Bucks East in a battle of sister schools at War Memorial Field at 5:30 p.m. Quakertown will travel to Pennridge for an afternoon game on Friday.

NORTH PENN 4, SOUDERTON 0
Amanda Laessig scored a pair of goals to lead the Maidens to the decisive win in the league opener for both squads.
The Maidens took a 1-0 lead into halftime with Casey O’Donnell, who scored less than three minutes into the game, connecting for the only goal.
“We actually got off to a slow start,” North Penn coach Shannon McCracken said. “It was partly the heat and also coming off a tough game yesterday against Emmaus.
“We had to regroup at halftime, and we just started winning more 50-50 balls in the second half, and more of our shots came in the second half. We were just attacking more in the circle. I thought our conditioning really held us up in the second half.”
Laessig turned an Emma Herb assist into a goal midway through the second half to make it a 2-0 game, and eight minutes later, Laessig scored using a Shannon Talbot assist. Talbot closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal with 3:40 remaining in the game.
“Shannon Talbot had an excellent game today,” McCracken said. “Chessa Kownurko came up with some great saves that could have changed the direction of the game, especially in the first half.
“Amanda Laessig had some nice touches in the circle, and everyone that came off the bench played well today. It was a really good all-around team effort today.”
Kownurko was credited with seven saves while Souderton’s Shelby Landes turned away 10 shots. The Maidens held a 14-9 advantage in shots. Both teams had nine corners.
“We let this game get by us,” Souderton coach Lauren Whiteside said. “We had a game plan going into the game, and it fell apart.
“We held strong in the first half and ended the half with two corners in a row as time expired. We talked at half about what we needed to do to get a goal on the board and come back strong, but it didn’t go as planned.
“We sat back on our heels and let them dribble around us. Our midfield transition was not there, and we were getting beat to the ball. We need to be better, bottom line.”
The Maidens upped their record to 3-1 (1-0 SOL) while the Indians fell to 1-2 (0-1 SOL). North Penn will host Central Bucks South on Thursday at 7 p.m. while the Indians will travel to Hatboro-Horsham Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, PENNRIDGE 1
The Titans opened up a 3-0 halftime lead on their way to the win opener on their home field. The Titans held a 10-2 advantage in shots.
“The team played well with good decisions in the attacking third leading to quality circle penetrations,” South coach Jeff Harding said.
Jess Tennett accounted for the Rams’ only goal.
“Pennridge played very well in a defensively-sided game (with solid performances) from Sarah Fetter and Katie Dubyk,” Pennridge coach Brieann Wolfe said. “Pennridge was not having an ‘on’ day on offense, and we struggled to handle all of the aerial – lifted – balls that came from CB South’s defense.”
Pennridge goalie Natsha Nagel turned away a penalty stroke by South’s Jessica Schmidt to keep her team within striking distance.
The Titans upped their record to 3-0 (1-0 SOL) while the Rams are 2-1 overall (0-1 SOL). South will travel to North Penn on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. contest while the Lady Rams will host Pennridge on Friday.

SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 3, CHELTENHAM 2 (OT)
The Lady Panthers extended the Spartans to overtime, but Katherine McVeagh connected on a rebound of her own shot at the 10:18 mark of OT to propel the Spartans to the dramatic win.
“We had opportunities, but we just didn’t put the ball in,” Springfield coach Linda Nixon said. “Every time we play there – last year it was 0-0 at halftime, but we ended up winning 3-0.
“We just don’t seem to be able to play very well on their field. It’s been that way for a gazillion years. It was very exciting.”
Allison Yoder spotted the Spartans a 1-0 lead late in the first half, and they took that lead into halftime. The Lady Panthers scored back-to-back goals in a five-minute span early in the second half to go on top 2-1. Sabrina Colbridge scored the equalizer, and Shilo Dorley scored the go-ahead goal.
Finally, with four minutes remaining in regulation, Julie Cardamone connected on a goal that knotted the score, setting the stage for OT.
“Boy, was that a beautiful goal,” Nixon said. “She just drove it from the top of the circle on a breakaway and got the far post. It really was a good goal.”
The Spartans held an 8-4 advantage in corners.
Springfield, which improved to 2-0 (1-0 SOL), will host Wissahickon on Thursday while the Lady Panthers will travel to Plymouth Whitemarsh.

Rachel Konowal put PW on the scoreboard nine minutes into the first half, and by the time the final horn sounded, the senior forward had three goals and one assist. Courtney Konowal also got into the act, contributing a pair of second half goals. Paige Toten added a single goal for the Colonials, who led 3-0 at halftime.
Delaney Smith scored Upper Moreland’s lone goal on a penalty stroke with eight minutes remaining in regulation.
The Colonials improved to 4-0 overall (1-0 SOL) while the Golden Bears are 0-2 (0-1 SOL). Upper Moreland will travel to Upper Merion on Thursday while PW will host Cheltenham.

WISSAHICKON 3, UPPER DUBLIN 0
Stacie Rocco scored a pair of goals for the Trojans, the first with an assist from Rachel Zimmerman and the second with a Jessica Waite assist. Rocco also had an assist on Melanie Fry’s goal.
Trojan goal Claire Tarzia turned away five shots in the win while Upper Dublin’s Sarah Weinberg was credited with 22 saves in a busy afternoon in the cage.
The Trojans are 1-2 overall (1-0 SOL) while the Flying Cardinals fell to 0-2 (0-1 SOL). Wissahickon will travel to Springfield on Thursday, and the Flying Cardinals will host Norristown.
NORRISTOWN 3, UPPER MERION 1
The Eagles opened up a 2-0 halftime lead and never looked back on their way to the win over their neighboring rival. Jazmeen Gonzalez (Vanessa Fosco assist) put the Eagles on the scoreboard just over 11 minutes into the game. Ninety seconds later, Tahira Baird (Keifonna Ferguson assist) connected on an insurance goal. Upper Merion’s Danielle Antonucci cut that lead in half with a goal four minutes into the second half, but Emma Hagel got that back, scoring an unassisted goal with seven-and-a-half minutes remaining.
The Eagles held a 15-14 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corners. Norristown goalie Lauren Whitley was credited with 12 saves while her counterpart had 10.
“Lauren Whitley played aggressive in the cage for Norristown,” coach Stacie Staufenberg said of her goalie. “Kaitlyn Lutz of Upper Merion played really well to attempt to shut down our defense on corners.”
The Eagles are 1-2 overall (1-0 SOL) while the Vikings fell to 0-4 (0-1 SOL). Upper Merion will host Upper Moreland on Thursday, and Norristown will travel to Upper Dublin.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0
The Hatters opened SOL play with a shutout of the Patriots. Coach Laura Swezey lauded the excellent defensive performances of Jane Henry, Keeley Henry, Brenna Reilly and goalie Emily Braunewell.
Jenna Cutilli (Casey Swezey assist) put the Hatters on the board just over three minutes into the game. A Colby Eldridge goal (Carlie Baldus assist) made it a 2-0 game at the 21:49 mark of the first half. Baldus scored in the opening minutes of the second half to close out the scoring, using assists from Swezey and Gabby Acker.
The Hatters are 3-0 (1-0 SOL) while the Patriots fell to 0-3 (0-1 SOL). The Hatters will host Souderton on Wednesday while the Patriots will face Central Bucks West.

QUAKERTOWN 1, PALISADES 0
The Panthers won the game in dramatic fashion when Gabby Dontonville scored with 1:08 remaining in regulation, using an assist from sophomore Becky Gerhart.
The Panthers took 16 shots and drew 13 corners. Palisades managed just five corners. Quakertown goalie Maddie Calder was credited with 12 saves.
EMMAUS 4, NORTH PENN 0
Meredith Sholoer connected for the hat trick to lead Emmaus to the big win. Olivia Scrarnulis added a goal, and Krissy Mikelson had an assist.
Maiden goalie Chessa Kownurko turned away 24 shots while her counterpart was forced to make just four saves in the shutout.
THE BALDWIN SCHOOL 3, UPPER MERION 2
Mia DiBella and Danielle Antonucci each scored a goal for the Vikings. Dasia Araujo and Anna Derby provided assists. Goalie Devyn Antonucci had 11 saves in goal for the Vikings.
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 6, ABINGTON 3
The two teams battled to a 2-2 halftime tie, but the Bucks exploded for four second half goals on their way to the non-league win.
In the opening half, the Ghosts received goals from Sam McGee (Heather Trainor assist) and Jackie Farides (Lizzy Petermichl assist), knotting the score on corner play after time expired in the half. Farides scored her team’s only second half goal with a Lizzy Petermichl assist.
Erick Fiorelli scored a pair of goals to lead West while Elena Romesburg, Bryn Bolan, Kim Hitchcock and Madison Shields each added single goals. Emily Henderson, Anna Hall, Romesburg, Shields and Hitchcock all contributed assists.
