Wissahickon varsity boys water polo team defeats Pennridge, 15-9

The Wissahickon Trojan Boys varsity water polo team won their home opener with a sold defeat over Pennridge by a score of 15-9.  Wissahickon jumped out to an early lead ending the first period by a score of 5-1 and never relinquished the lead during the entire game.  Senior Luke Waechter lead the way scoring 7 goals on 13 shots along with 7 steals and 4 kick-outs drawn.  Waechter was not the only scorer, however.  Sophomore Jake Berring had three goals and two steals. Senior Robby Wilson scored two goals on five shots including a “rocket” shot in the first period and also had two assists and 3 steals. Senior Alex Bolen scored  1 goal, had two assists, and 4 steals.  Other Trojan goals were scored by Ben Tumulo (1) and Danny Knoll (1).  On the defensive side, the Trojans did a good job of dropping back. Senior Goalie Mac Hennessey racked up 18 saves, 1 shot on goal, two assists, and 2 steals. Overall, the boys demonstrated solid play on both offense and defense.  Varsity boys record stands at 1-1 with an away game against Springfield on Thursday.
 
The JV Trojan boys and Pennridge’s JV squad ended in a 6-6 tie.  Highlights for the Trojans included:  Goals scored by Jeff Beyer (1), David McFarland (2 ), Nick Valentine (1), Alex Zavitsanos (1), Nick Pak (1).
Ben Tate played a solid game in goal with 14 saves and 2 assists.
Wissahickon’s  girls teams both suffered losses despite an improved effort by both squads on offense and defense.
