MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington sophomore Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) won the 8K for the second consecutive year at the Penn State Harrisburg Invitational on Friday, posting a time of 26:41.0 and finishing 1:58 ahead of the second place finisher. Teammate Nicholas Volpe (William Tennent) finished third with a time of 28:52.6, shaving 19 seconds from last year’s time.

Penn State freshman Conner Quinn (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a time of 25:34 and teammate Nick Scarpello (Central Bucks West) finished in a time of 25:47 to round out the top five finishers for the Nittany Lions at the Paul Short Run on Saturday. Penn State finished 10th overall.

Ursinus College sophomore David Slade (Abington) posted a time of 30:01 in the College White Race at the Annual Paul Short Run on Saturday.

Gwynedd Mercy freshman Matt French (Bensalem) posted a personal best of 30:01 in the 8000 meter at the 40th Annual Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday.

La Salle’s Francis Ferruzzi (Upper Dublin) posted a time of 26:07 at the Paul Short Run on Saturday. The Explorers placed sixth in the 47-team field.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington’s Megan O’Farrell (Pennsbury) finished eighth at the Penn State Harrisburg Invitational on Friday, establishing a new spot in the Top-10 records by jumping to seventh all-time.

Bloomsburg’s Kate Dodds (Upper Dublin) and Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) posted times of 24:58 and 25:06 respectively at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University on Saturday.

Penn State sophomore Tori Gerlach (Pennridge) was the fourth Nittany Lion to cross the finish line at the Paul Short Run on Saturday, posting a time of 21:36. Penn State finished ninth in the team standings.

Kutztown’s Elizabeth McLaughlin (Upper Dublin) posted a time of 25:34 at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday.

Anne Areias (William Tennent) was the second La Salle runner to cross the finish line at the Paul Short Run on Saturday, finishing the 6K in a time of 22:08.

Millersville captain Megan Meyer (Central Bucks South) posted a time of 24:19 at the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday. The Marauders finished 27th out of 45 teams after finishing 36th out of 38 teams last season.

FIELD HOCKEY
Lehigh freshman Marissa Glatt (Central Bucks East) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 29. The announcement followed a standout weekend for the rookie, which included a career high two goals at La Salle. Glatt leads the team with eight goals and 17 points. Glatt boasted an eight-game point streak, scoring a goal in seven of those contests. The CB East grad set up an assist on a goal by Gabby Tofig (Council Rock North) against Lafayette. It marked Lehigh’s first goal against Lafayette since 2007. In total, Glatt has had a hand in the Mountain Hawks’ last five goals (four goals, one assist) spanning the four games ending Sept. 30. This is Glatt’s second Rookie of the Week honor of the season. The CB East alum was the high scorer in the Patriot League as of Sept. 30.

Tofig contributed a goal and an assist in Lehigh’s 3-2 loss to Rider on Sunday afternoon. Glatt also scored a goal.
Junior back Maddy Harding (Central Bucks South) scored a goal in Villanova’s 3-2 loss in an overtime shootout to Rutgers on Friday. In Wednesday’s 5-3 loss to St. Joe’s, Kayla Kenney (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist.

Casey McGowan (Central Bucks South) converted a penalty stroke in IUP’s 4-2 loss to top-ranked Shippensburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Slippery Rock, McGowan connected for her first career hat trick.

Senior Jennalise Taylor (Pennsbury) scored a goal in Quinnipiac’s 3-2 win over Yale on Sunday.

Junior Amanda Krause (Council Rock North) made five saves in The College of New Jersey’s 7-2 win over William Patterson University on Friday night. The win was the ninth of the season for Krause. In Tuesday’s 6-0 win over Manhattanville College, Krause made three saves for her fifth straight shutout.

Junior forward Jessie Accurso (Central Bucks South) contributed a goal and assist in Yale’s 3-0 win over Cornell on Saturday.

Taylor Prichett (William Tennent) notched her first collegiate hat track and assisted on a goal in Delaware Valley’s 6-2 win at King’s College on Saturday. Prichett entered the game as the team’s leading scorer with 22 points. She upped her total to 13 goals and 29 points. It also was her fifth multi-goal game of the year.

Christina Maida (Central Bucks East) contributed to No. 11 Princeton’s second shutout of the year in Friday’s 5-0 win over Columbia, collecting a pair of saves in the second half.

Senior Maria Karidas (Council Rock South) had a career day, totaling a personal best eight points on three goals and two assists in Gwynedd Mercy’s 10-0 win over Notre Dame (Md.) on Saturday. Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) dished out three assists and also scored a goal. In Tuesday’s 4-1 loss to Richard Stockton, Karidas opened the second half with her fourth tally of the season and her 50th career goal. In last Sunday’s 3-1 loss to William Patterson, O’Neill had an assist on her team’s only goal.

Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) scored her team leading eighth goal of the season and also contributed an assist in La Salle’s 5-3 loss to Northeastern on Sunday. In Friday’s 1-0 win over Bryant, Shoemaker contributed an assist on the game’s lone goal.

FOOTBALL
Dave Damirgian (Council Rock South)
had a hand in four tackles as well as a sack in Monmouth University’s 35-9 win over Robert Morris on Saturday.

Senior Matt Pirolli (William Tennent) hauled in four catches for 32 yards in Kutztown’s 58-10 loss to Slippery Rock on Saturday.

Shawn Leo (Souderton) kicked a 23-yard field goal in 17/19 West Chester’s 38-31 win over California (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon.

Evan Stahl (Central Bucks South) banged home a 36-yard field goal in Millersville’s 62-3 loss to No. 7 ranked IUP on Saturday. Rasheed Johnson (Norristown) picked off a pass and recorded a 17-yard return.

Junior Craig Needhammer (North Penn) had touchdown runs of six and four yards in Lycoming’s 19-16 win over 16th-ranked Delaware Valley on Saturday. He rushed 32 times for 144 yards, crossing the 100-yard barrier for the fourth straight game and moving within one of the school record set in 2010.

Shippensburg senior defensive end Jake Metz (Souderton) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday after setting a SU single game record Saturday in the Raiders 73-27 win over Seton Hill with 6.0 tackles for loss TFLs), including three sacks. Metz led the team with a career high 11 tackles, including a single game school record six tackles for a loss. He also matched his career high with three sacks, equaling his mark set last season against East Stroudsburg. His 29 yards lost on those sacks broke his previous career high of 23 yards set in last year’s NCAA playoff loss to Winston Salem State. His TFL total surpasses his previous single game high of three. He now has 50 career tackles for a loss and sits third on the school’s all-time list. For the season, Metz’s 13.0 TFLs leads the PSAC and is four more than any other player in the league. His 8.0 sacks are tied for the league lead with Bloomsburg’s Larry Webster.
Sheldon Mayer (Norristown), whose first career pass in Shippensburg’s 73-27 win over Seton Hill resulted in a 46-yard touchdown, added 39 more punt return yards to his season total. His 269 punt return yards puts him 164 yards ahead of any other returner in the PSAC. The school record for punt returns in a season is 308, set by current Miami Dolphin Brent Grimes in 2005. Teammate Mike Goode (Norristown) came up with an interception in the first quarter that was deflected by Metz. It was the first interception of the season by a Shippensburg player.

Defensive end Kiser Terry (Neshaminy) had a tackle for a loss in Temple’s 30-7 loss to Louisville on Saturday. Cornerback Anthony Robey (Norristown) is one of only 10 players in Temple’s starting lineup that started on opening day.

Junior wide receiver Josh Williams (Central Bucks South) had four receptions for 92 yards, which included a 75-yard touchdown, in Ursinus College’s 52-44 win over Moravian on Saturday. Junior linebacker Kevin James (Hatboro-Horsham) had five tackles. Sophomore kicker Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) was 7-of-7 on extra points and also had a 38-yard field goal. Freshman running back Corey Kelly (Plymouth Whitemarsh carried the ball 10 times for 40 yards.

MEN’S GOLF
Junior Greg Goodreds (Hatboro-Horsham) was the top La Salle finisher at the George Mason Intercollegiate at Laurel hills Golf Course in Lorton, Va., last weekend. The Hatboro-Horsham alum shot a 73-74-77=224 (+11), which was good for 25th in the 66-player field. Senior Mike Johnson (Hatboro-Horsham) was the next Explorer finisher in 30th. He shot a 72-79-75=226 (+13).

Millersville’s Kevin Davis (Hatboro-Horsham) tied for 27th at 13-over-par at the Mercyhurst Invitational last weekend. Millersville placed seventh as a team.

MEN’S SOCCER
Drexel freshman Tyler Afflerbach (Souderton) was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Defender of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22. The freshman keeper stopped both shots that came his way in a 1-0 win over La Salle. Afflerbach stepped into the starting lineup a week earlier and was 3-0-0 in the first three starts of his collegiate career, allowing just one goal and recording two shutouts in those three games.

Ursinus freshman midfielder Ryan Molyneaux (Souderton) scored a goal six minutes into the first overtime to propel Ursinus to a 2-1 win over Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday night. The win marked the first victory over F&M since 1996 and also snapped a nine-match losing streak. With the win, combined with Gettysburg’s 2-1 loss to Johns Hopkins, Ursinus remains in a first place tie with Swarthmore.

Senior Marco Paparo (Abington) scored the golden goal four minutes into overtime of Penn State Abington’s 1-0 win over Morrisville State on Saturday in a battle of squads boasting undefeated North Eastern Athletic Conference records. It was his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Senior keeper Dan Saint-Pol (Abington) made four quality saves on the afternoon in the shutout.
Paparo and Saint-Pol were both named the Corvias-ECAC Division III Upstate Players of the Week as well as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Players of the Week for the week ending Sept. 29. Paparo was named Offensive Player of the Week after netting three goals on the week to lead Penn State Abington to a pair of conference wins and a perfect 3-0 record in NEAC play. Paparo found the back of the net twice in a 6-0 win over SUNY Coleskill before scoring the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over SUNY IT. Paparo was in a three-way tie for the conference lead in goals while being second in both assists (four) and points (16).
Saint-Pol was named Defensive Player of the Week as the senior goalkeeper recorded two shutouts with 11 saves across two conference victories for the Nittany Lions. Saint-Pol opened play with a six-save shutout in a 6-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill before registering a five-save shutout in a 1-0 win over SUNYIT. Saint-Pol was second in the NEAC in both goals allowed (seven) and goals-against average (0.92) while being third in save percentage (.821). The Nittany Lions recently received votes in a Division III national soccer poll for the first time in program history.

Fran Miller (Central Bucks East) scored in the 23rd minute of Bloomsburg’s 2-1 loss to No. 19 Mercyhurst on Saturday.

Tyler Sablyak (Central Bucks West) scored his first goal of the season in Lock Haven’s 3-2 win over Gannon on Saturday. He also contributed an assist.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Junior Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) contributed an assist in Holy Family’s 1-1 tie against Felician College on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Wilmington University, Kisselback also made a pass that helped set up her team’s only goal.

Kaceyanne Cerankowski (Neshaminy) had an assist in Elizabethtown’s 5-0 win over Albright on Saturday.  Elizabethtown found its way into the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region rankings this past week for the first time since 2011. The Blue Jays hold the No. 10 spot in the region this week after last week’s 1-0 upset of No. 7 Misericordia that saw Cerankowski score the game’s only goal.

Lexi Brown (Pennsbury) scored a second half goal to break a scoreless tie to lead West Chester to a 1-0 win over Clarion on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 2-0 win over IUP, Carly Yost (North Penn) scored an insurance goal and assisted on another. Brown scored the game’s first goal.

Kayla Nelson (Abington) scored her fifth goal of the season and also had an assist in Penn State Abington’s 3-1 win over SUNY IT on Saturday. Freshman Ashlee Kohn (Bensalem) scored from 20 yards out, and Mallory Mugnier (Abington) also had a goal.

Jamie Vaniver (Council Rock South) contributed an assist in Bloomsburg’s 3-1 win over Mansfield on Saturday.

Theo Horozoglou (Council Rock South) scored her first goal of the season in Gwynedd Mercy’s 2-1 double overtime loss to Keystone on Tuesday. Senior Maura Gifford (North Penn) added the assist.

Freshman Erica Selheimer (North Penn) scored on a header from five yards out in Lock Haven’s 4-2 win over Mansfield on Wednesday.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Cabrini senior Katie Kennedy (Wissahickon) was named CSAC Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 29. Kennedy improved to a combined 14-0 on the season with three singles and three doubles wins. The senior surrendered just six games in three straight set number one singles victories. Kennedy also partnered with sophomore Nicole Broccolino to claim number one doubles wins against Neumann, Immaculata and Keystone. Keystone’s singles win at Neumann was the 40th of her career, a mark that now stands at 42-7.
Kennedy earned her 40th career doubles win in Saturday’s 8-0 win at number one doubles in Cabrini’s 9-0 win at Cairn University. She also earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at number one singles. In Monday’s 7-2 loss to Alvernia, Kennedy suffered her first loss of the season, falling 8-4.

Lindsey Tennis (Quakertown) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles in Bloomsburg’s 7-2 win over Clarion on Friday.

Rachel Fein (Wissahickon), Taylor Michener (Central Bucks South) and Jenna Caffarello (North Penn) all earned wins at both singles and doubles in Gwynedd Mercy’s 8-1 win over Neumann on Friday. Fein picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles and an 8-3 win at first doubles while Michener notched an 8-3 win at second singles and an 8-5 win in second doubles with partner Kristen Kriebel (Pennridge). Caffarello earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles and an 8-2 win at third doubles.
Michener took home the number two singles flight championship as the Griffins took part in the 2013 Goucher College Tournament over the weekend.

Freshman Christina Palazzolo (Abington) was part of a winning doubles team in Ursinus College’s 8-1 win over York College on Saturday.

Junior Allison Bean (Neshaminy) was part of East Stroudsburg’s second doubles team that earned an 8-6 win in ESU’s 5-4 win over Clarion on Saturday. In Friday’s 7-2 win over Seton Hill, Bean notched a 6-3, 6-2 win at second singles.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Sophomore Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) had 35 assists in Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Marywood on Saturday. In Cabrini’s 3-1 loss to Richard Stockton later in the day, Koenig tallied 40 assists while teammate Kristy Riley (Hatboro-Horsham) served for three aces and junior Dana Wisniewski (Hatboro-Horsham) had two blocks. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win at Centenary College on Wednesday, Koenig had 23 assists and seven digs.

Senior middle blocker Brittany O’Hara (Pennridge) has 21 blocks on the season for a Moravian squad that boasts an 8-10 record this fall.

Abbie Keating (Neshaminy) had a game high 15 digs in Cairn University’s 3-0 win over Immaculata on Saturday.

Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) had 10 kills and boasted a .588 hitting percentage in the match, committing zero errors in three sets of action. She also had five blocks. In Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Elizabethtown, Harvey had nine kills while hitting at a .368 clip.

Kate Schalck (William Tennent) had four kills in Penn State Abington’s 3-0 loss to Lancaster Bible College on Saturday.

Freshman Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) had seven kills, three block assists and two solo blocks in No. 13 Eastern University’s 3-0 win over No. 20 Stevenson on Saturday. In Eastern’s 3-0 win over Messiah, she had 14 kills. For the day, she recorded 21 kills and hit 14-for-19 in the win over Messiah for a .737 hitting percentage.

Senior Sarah Godfrey (William Tennent) had six kills in Lebanon Valley’s 3-0 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday.

Senior middle blocker Mara Berzins (Pennridge) had a solo block and assisted on two others in Ursinus College’s 3-1 loss to Johns Hopkins on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Haverford, Berzins had three solo blocks.

Freshman Abby Mummert (Central Bucks South) had eight kills and 11 digs in Shippensburg’s 3-0 win over Cheyney on Saturday. Both were career highs.

Senior Stephanie Farrar (North Penn) had five kills and 10 digs in Gwynedd Mercy’s 3-0 loss at the hands of Neumann on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Baptist Bible, Farrar had a career best 20 digs along with five aces, one shy of a personal best.

Sophomore Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) contributed nine kills with only one hitting error in Kutztown’s 3-1 loss to Pitt-Johnstown. In Friday’s 3-0 loss to Lock Haven, Stringer had three blocks and eight kills.
