MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington sophomore Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East), the 2013 NEAC First Team All-Conference runner, crossed the line with a time of 26:56.71 at the ECAC Championships Saturday at Colt State Park in Bristol, R.I., finishing 33rd overall out of 327 runners. Kane was the first NEAC runner to finish and beat NEAC champion Derek Struck from SUNIT by 24 seconds. Junior Nicholas Volpe (William Tennent) ran the 8-kilometer course in 28:47.94 for a 144th place finish, improving his time by almost a full minute from last year’s race. The men’s team finished 24th out of 46 teams, improving on last year’s 28th place.

East Stroudsburg sophomore Dan Davis (North Penn) finished 36th overall with a time of 32:24.4 at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region meet on Saturday at Lock Haven. ESU finished seventh in the field of 19 schools. 

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington senior Megan O’Farrell (Pennsbury) posted a time of 27:37.45 at the ECAC Championships Saturday at Colt State Park in Bristol, R.I. Freshman Cecilia Rosenbloom (Cheltenham) crossed the finish line with a time of 28:12.73. The Nittany Lions finished 30th overall, improving 10 spots from last year.

Kutztown University’s Carolyn Fergus (North Penn) posted a time of 23:16.1 at the NCAA Division II  Atlantic Region Championships on Saturday. Teammate Elizabeth McLaughlin (Upper Dublin) crossed the finish line in a time of 26:03.3.

West Chester’s Mara Kelly (Springfield) posted a time of 23:25 in the NCAA Regionals at Lock Haven on Saturday. West Chester finished 12th as a team.

Millersville’s Megan Meyer (Central Bucks South) was the third Marauder to cross the finish line at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region meet on Saturday at Lock Haven, posting a career-best time of 23:26.3.

Bloomsburg’s Kate Dodds (Upper Dublin) was the fourth Huskie to cross the finish line with a time of 23:19 at the 2013 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional meet on Saturday at Lock Haven. Teammate Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) posted a time of 24:11. The Huskies finished ninth overall as a team.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury)
scored a career-high 19 points in Temple’s 78-73 win over Penn in front of a sold-out Palestra crowd on Saturday night. Pepper buried a three for Temple’s first points of the game and scored seven more in a 12-0 Temple run that turned a 9-4 deficit into a 16-9 lead. Pepper hit a long two-pointer near the eight-minute mark for a 14-point Temple lead, but the Owls went cold down the stretch as Penn came alive, rallying to go ahead 73-71. After Temple knotted the score 73-73, Pepper recorded a steal that led to a fastbreak layup and a two-point lead with 45 seconds remaining.

FIELD HOCKEY
Ann Jefferis (Souderton)
came up with multiple big saves and finished with six saves in Liberty University’s 2-1 upset of 10th-ranked Stanford in the 2013 NorPac Championship title game on Saturday. Stanford recorded more shots (15-7) and more penalty corners (11-2), but the Lady Flames were able to convert their only two shots on goal of the contest. With the win, Liberty earns a berth in the NCAA Division One Field Hockey Championship and will compete in a play-in game on Wednesday. This is Liberty’s first NorPac title in just its second season of competition in the league and third season overall as a program. The win helped the Lady Flames avenge a 3-0 loss in last season’s title match to Stanford. Jefferis, who made five first-half saves, was named tournament MVP.  She finished the tournament with eight saves and just two goals allowed in five halves of play. In Liberty’s 3-1 win over No. 4W Cal in the quarterfinals, Jefferis had two saves.

Samantha Facciolla (Council Rock South) came up with a steal that set up a goal to put Bloomsburg on top 1-0 in its 2-0 win over IUP on Tuesday in a PSAC quarterfinal game.

Alayna Brown (Souderton) scored her first career hat trick to help No. 4 West Chester to a 6-1 victory over East Stroudsburg in PSAC quarterfinal action on Tuesday. Brown has 11 goals this season.

Longwood freshman Lauren Bernard (Neshaminy) received NorPac East Defensive Player of the Week recognition for the week ending Nov. 3. Bernard earned her second start of the season in front of the cage at Davidson on Nov. 3 in the squad’s regular season finale. She made three saves while allowing just one goal to help the Lancers secure a 2-1 victory. She is now 1-1 on the season with a .667 save percentage.

Lehigh University freshman Marissa Glatt (Central Bucks East) earned first team All-Patriot League honors. The league’s second leading scorer, she scored 12 goals and added an assist to pace the offense. Glatt’s 12 goals and 25 points marked the most by a Lehigh player since 2009. Glatt scored a goal in 11 of the team’s 18 games, led by a career-high two goals at La Salle. She had a six-game goal streak from Sept. 6-22, which extended to an eight-game point streak. In total, she had a point 10 times in one 11-game stretch. Glatt had four goals and one assist in Patriot League play, scoring at Bucknell, vs. Boston University, at Colgate and at Holy Cross. Glatt is the only freshman on the first team.

Delaware Valley College sophomore forward Taylor Prichett (William Tennent) earned first team All-Freedom Conference recognition. The Tennent grad tops the team and is ranked nationally in the top 40 in both goals (19) and points (42), which represents a drastic jump from her rookie totals of four goals and 15 points. Five of her tallies have been game winners, and she netted seven goals and one assist for 15 points in the seven regular season conference games. The Aggies were picked to finish sixth in the preseason coaches’ poll, but instead, they grabbed the top spot with a 5-2 league mark and tied a school record with 12 wins in the regular season.

Rider senior Kristine Dougherty (Neshaminy) was named to the MAAC All-Academic team, recognition given to athletes with a 3.20 grade point average or higher.

Kelsey Grant (Council Rock South) scored off a rebound 20 minutes into the second half in Elizabethtown’s 1-0 win over No. 4 seed Lebanon Valley in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Conference Championship game on Wednesday.

Messiah junior defender Becky Ely (Council Rock North) earned first team All-Commonwealth Conference honors. It is Ely’s third conference honor in as many years. The 2011 Rookie of the Year was a key member of Messiah’s backfield. Messiah’s defense boasts a 1.33 goals against average (GAA) – a mark good for 30th among all NCAA teams.
Ely contributed an assist on the tying goal in Messiah’s 3-2 come-from-behind win over Elizabethtown in the Commonwealth Conference championship game on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 4-1 win over Arcadia in a conference semifinal game, Ely converted a penalty stroke in the 54th minute.

Villanova junior Maddy Harding (Central Bucks South) earned a position on the All-BIG EAST second team for the 2013 season. After missing the 2012 season to injury, Harding served as one of the most crucial members of the Wildcats. She started all 17 games and led Villanova in goals (8) and points (19) this season. She also tallied three assists. Harding led the team in shots with 58 and recorded two defensive saves over the season. She scored in each of the Wildcats’ last two games of the season, a 1-0 win over Georgetown and a 6-1 loss to No. 16 Delaware.
Harding also was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending Nov. 3 after scoring goals in the Wildcats’ final two games.

Quinnipiac senior Jennalise Taylor (Pennsbury) was named to the 2013 MAAC all-conference first team. She finished the year with a career best eight goals while also assisting on five more. She had five game-winning goals. She also earned a spot on the 2013 MAAC Field Hockey All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
Taylor contributed a goal in Quinnipiac’s 5-0 win over Bryant in an MAAC semifinal round game. With the win, the Bobcats move on to the MAAC Championship game and their first conference final since 2003.

Quinnipiac junior Kacie McCreesh (Pennridge) was named to the 2013 MAAC Field Hockey All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Junior Amanda Krause (Council Rock North) made four saves to collect her 15th win of the season in TCNJ’s 6-1 win over Rowan University on Wednesday in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference. In Saturday’s championship game, TCNJ fell to Montclair State 1-0.

Gwynedd Mercy senior Maria Karidas (Council Rock South) was named the 2013 Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was named to the All-CSAC first team. It was the fourth all-league honor and third appearance on the first team for Karidas. The 2010 CSAC Rookie of the Year leads the conference with 21 goals and 47 points and is ranked 11th in Division III in goals per game (1.24). She has recorded four hat tricks this season and set a personal high with five goals at Cedar Crest on Oct. 19.

Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) earned 2013 All-Colonial States Athletic Conference first team honors. O’Neill leads the CSAC in assists (10) and has eight goals, four of which are game winners. On two occasions this season, she has recorded three assists in a game.
O’Neill scored twice and assisted on another goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 4-2 win at Cabrini on Saturday. With the win, Gwynedd Mercy captured its third straight CSAC title. O’Neill was named tournament MVP. The Griffins earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, which begins Wednesday. Selections will be made on Monday. In Wednesday’s 3-1 semifinal win over Immaculata, Karidas had a goal and an assist.

La Salle senior Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference second team. She set new career highs for points (33), goals (14) and assists (5). Her 33 points shattered the single-season school record set by Kathy McGahey in 1980, while her 14 goals were the fourth most for a single season in program history. She finishes her Explorer career seventh all-time in program history with 67 points while she is tied for sixth in goals scored, finding the back of the net 30 times in her four years at La Salle. This was the second year in a row she was named to the All-Conference second team as she finished sixth in the Atlantic 10 in points and tied for fourth in goals scored.

FOOTBALL
Dave Damirgian (Council Rock South)
helped lead the defense with eight tackles in Monmouth’s 23-6 win over Wagner on Saturday.

Wide receiver Brandon Mercer (North Penn) had a touchdown reception in East Stroudsburg’s 66-7 win over Millersville on Saturday. He finished the game with two catches for 25 yards.

Jalen Nieves (Bensalem) made a clutch play on the sideline and hauled in his first career interception in Kutztown’s 38-17 win over Lock Haven on Saturday.

Sophomore kicker Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) converted a 32-yard field goal in Ursinus College’s 41-10 loss to Muhlenberg on Saturday.

Freshman Anthony Williams (Souderton) scored his first career touchdown on a 21-yard run in Shippensburg’s 42-0 road shutout of Cheyney on Saturday. He finished the day with 39 yards on seven carries and added two receptions for 16 yards. Both yardage totals are career highs for the freshman.

Junior Craig Needhammer (North Penn) became the second Lycoming College running back in as many years to pick up Capital One Academic All-District IV honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday. He is now eligible to earn Capital One Academic All-American honors, which will be announced Dec. 3. The 5-7 running back averaged 109.2 yards per game, posting 184 carries for 874 yards and seven touchdowns through the first eight games of the year. He has rushed for more than 100 yards five times this season, including four times in a row during a stretch that included games against nationally ranked opponents Widener and Delaware Valley. His 874 are already 10th in the program’s history and his 143.3 all-purpose yards per game are third with two games remaining. He was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after carrying 32 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns in a 19-16 win over the Aggies, who were ranked 16th in the country at the time. Needhammer, who served as a backup during his first two years in the program, is sixth in school history with 2,161 career rushing yards, sixth with 22 rushing touchdowns and ninth with 3,032 all-purpose yards. The physics major was a MAC Academic Honor Roll selection as a sophomore.
Needhammer had three rushing touchdowns in Lycoming’s 55-12 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday. He finished with 20 carries for 148 yards and became the ninth player in school history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season, finishing the day with 1,024. For his performance Needhammer earned a spot on the Middle Atlantic Conference Weekly Honor Roll. Junior John Sibel (Pennsbury) scored on a three-yard pass to make it a 34-0 game. Silbel finished with four receptions for 61 yards.

MEN’S SOCCER
Freshman goalkeeper Tyler Afflerbach (Souderton) had four saves in Drexel’s 2-1 win over Charleston on Wednesday. The win upped the freshman keeper’s record to 8-5-2 since taking over the position early in the season. The Dragons, who are 8-7-3, clinched their second straight and third ever Colonial Athletic Association regular season championship.

Joe Farrell (Wissahickon) scored the game’s only goal in the 16th minute off a corner kick in La Salle’s 1-0 win over George Washington on Saturday afternoon. Nick Becker (Council Rock North) contributed the assist on the game winner.

Penn State Abington senior forward Marco Paparo (Abington) was named to the 2013 All-North Eastern Athletic Conference first team. Paparo led Abington with 10 goals and 25 points on the season.

Penn State Abington senior keeper Dan Saint-Pol (Pennridge) was named to the All-North Eastern Athletic Conference third team. Saint-Pol played in all 15 games and came up with 53 saves for an 81.5 percent save percentage with a 0.85 goals-against average on the year.

Sophomore defender Chris Kulczytzky (Council Rock North) converted a penalty kick in Philadelphia University’s 5-3 win in PKs over Dominican (N.Y.) after battling to a 1-1 tie. As a result of the win, Philadelphia University advanced to its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament final.

Gwynedd Mercy senior Ryan Roedel (Neshaminy) was named to the 2013 All-Colonial States Athletic Conference first team. The Neshaminy grad started all 20 games on defense but showed offensive versatility by ranking second on the team with 17 points and tied for first with five assists to go along with six goals. He had two multi-goal games, once with Bryn Athyn (two goals, one assist) and the other with Rosemont (two goals).

Gwynedd Mercy senior Mike Wambold (Upper Moreland) was named to the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Kutztown freshman defender Katie Miller (North Penn) was named to the All-PSAC second team. The North Penn grad played in all 18 games this season and has played the most minutes on the team (1,462) for an average of more than 81 minutes per game. The KU defensive unit reached a season-high seven-game winning streak and a total of eight shutouts during the year. Miller scored two goals this season, but more importantly, she has held opponents to less than a goal per game.

Elizabethtown sophomore Kaceyanne Cerankowski (Neshaminy) was named to the All-Commonwealth Conference first team. It is the second straight year she has received all-conference honors. As a freshman she earned second team honors after contributing six goals, four assists and 16 points. This season she set career highs with eight goals, seven assists and 23 points. Cerankowski scored the game-winning goal in Elizabethtown’s upset of No. 7 Misericordia on Sept. 25.

West Chester junior forward Carly Yost (North Penn) was named to the 2013 All-PSAC second team. The North Penn grad led the Golden Rams with seven regular season goals and four assists for 18 points.
Yost scored the game winner in West Chester’s come-from-behind 2-1 win over Kutztown in a PSAC quarterfinal game on Tuesday.

West Chester University junior forward Cara Deola (Council Rock South) was named the PSAC Women’s Soccer Champion Scholar on Friday prior to West Chester’s semifinal game against Gannon in the PSAC Women’s Soccer Championship tournament. The PSAC Champion Scholar Awards are modeled after the NCAA’s Elite 89 award and honor the student-athlete with the top grade point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC’s 23 team championship finals. The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is identical to that of the NCAA Elite 89 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship final sites of the 89 NCAA championships across all three divisions – I, II and III. Deola has completed 63 credits towards her degree in special education/early grades prep and currently holds a cumulative grade point average of 4.0. Deola also has been selected to the Division II Capital One Academic All-District 2013-14 women’s soccer team in District 2. Deola carries a 4.00 GPA in Special Education/Early Grades Prep. The speedy forward has scored three goals and added an assist for seven points while battling injuries this season. She has 10 goals and three assists for 23 careers points while appearing in 56 games at West Chester.

Gwynedd Mercy senior Michelle Pool (North Penn) was named to the 2013 All-Colonial States Athletic Conference second team. She also was named to the All-CSAC Sportsmanship Team. Pool started 17 games on defense and was part of a defense that yielded just 1.21 goals against.

Junior defender Brigitta Good (Abington) scored the lone goal in Penn State Abington’s 1-0 win over Lancaster Bible College in Saturday afternoon’s North Eastern Athletic Conference semifinal match. In Sunday’s championship match, Penn State Abington fell to Penn State Berks 4-0.

Freshman Megan Gerhart (North Penn) started all 19 games in goal for Virginia Wesleyan this season. The rookie keeper allowed just 10 goals in 19 games for a 0.50 goals against average while leading Virginia Wesleyan to a 12-5-2 record. Gerhart was named to the honor roll of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference for the week ending Oct. 20 after posting back-to-back shutouts. She made three saves in a 2-0 win over Randolph-Macon, and she followed that with six stops in a 1-0 victory at Shenandoah.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Freshman Casey Griffith (Upper Merion) recorded a match best 18 digs in UMBC’s 3-0 loss to New Hampshire in a battle for first place in the America East standings on Friday. In last Sunday’s 3-2 win over Albany, Griffith combined with teammate Hallie Carter for 38 digs.

Cairn University senior Abbie Keating (Neshaminy) was named to the All-Colonial States Athletic Conference All-Sportsmanship Team.

Junior Devyn Ingram (Upper Merion) had eight digs in Holy Family’s 3-0 win over Post on Friday. In Holy Family’s 3-0 loss to Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, Ingram had nine defensive digs.

Cabrini sophomore Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) earned All-Colonial States Athletic Conference First Team honors after ranking 19th in the nation with 10.27 assists per set. The sophomore recorded 1,027 assists against just six ball handling errors while reaching the 2,000 career assist mark. The sophomore recorded a career best 59 assists in a 3-1 win at Swarthmore.
Koenig also was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference Volleyball Honor Roll for the week ending Nov. 3. She led the Cavaliers to a 2-0 week, topping Elizabethtown College 3-0 and Shenandoah University 3-1, totaling 87 assists on the week. Koenig posted 40 against Elizabethtown and 47 against Shenandoah.
Koenig recorded 49 assists in Cabrini’s 3-1 win over Neumann in Saturday’s Colonial States Athletic Conference championship match. It is her ninth match with at least 40 assists and fourth in a row. Cabrini will wait for Monday’s NCAA Selection Show to learn its opponent in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. In Thursday’s 3-0 semifinal win over Marywood, Koenig tallied 40 assists. Teammate Kristy Riley (Hatboro-Horsham) posted 10 digs.

Cabrini senior Dana Wisniewski (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named to the All-Colonial States Athletic Conference All-Sportsmanship Team.

Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) led the offense with 16 kills and a .448 hitting percentage in Franklin & Marshall’s 3-1 loss to Johns Hopkins in the Centennial Conference semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

Eastern University freshman Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) earned second team All-Freedom Conference honors as a middle hitter. The team’s leading blocker had impressive numbers in the Eagles’ games against nationally-ranked opponents. Elechko led the team with 14 kills against Juniata. She recorded five blocks against Stevenson. She had 11 kills and a pair of blocks in Eastern’s match against Freedom finalist DeSales. That was the only Freedom Conference match where she played in all three sets. She hit .391 in that match.

Senior Sarah Godfrey (William Tennent) had seven kills in Lebanon Valley’s 3-2 loss to Messiah College in the Commonwealth Conference semifinal on Wednesday.

Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had seven digs in UConn’s 3-0 loss to the University of Southern Florida on Friday.

Freshman Abby Mummert (Central Bucks South) served for four straight points, including a pair of aces, in Shippensburg’s 25-14 win in the third set of its 3-0 win over Kutztown on Friday. She also had a seven-point service run in the second set.

Gwynedd Mercy senior Michelle Carrieri (Central Bucks South) received 2013 Colonial States Athletic Conference honorable mention. The senior hitter was second on the team in kills (101), total blocks (19) and fourth in digs (159), but she leads the CSAC and is in the top 10 in Division III in service aces per set (0.81 apg). This season, Carrieri set a personal best with 11 aces versus Rosemont and owns a .300 hitting percentage in the season-opener at Cazenovia.

Sophomore Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) posted a team-high nine kills on 18 attacks and five total blocks and just one error in Kutztown’s 3-0 win over East Stroudsburg on Tuesday.

Middle blocker Brittany O’Hara (Pennridge) picked up a block in Moravian’s 3-1 loss to Scranton in the Landmark Conference Tournament. With the block, O’Hara moved into sole possession of fifth place for career total blocks in Moravian history.
