The West Chester East Vikings, coming off a strong win over Lower Merion, tangled with the visiting Pennsbury Falcons in a ChesMont / Suburban One contest on a day marked by a constant and dreary rain.

The Falcons lit the scoreboard first, with a score by midfielder Rick Jutkiewcz, as he received a pass from attackman Calvin Hopkins, split a double, and scored. West Chester answered two minutes later as Chris McCormick fed Kevin Holleran for the equalizer. After a series of takeaways by both teams, the Vikings forged their first lead of the day when Zach Lieb and Matt Biegel played 'keep away' behind the net until Lieb found himself alone with the Pennsbury goalie and buried the shot from the crease line. West Chester also tallied the last goal of the half on a forced turnover by Zach Lieb, who brought the ball up on a fast break the other way and fed Matt Biegel for the score, returning the assist favor from the previous goal. The half was marked by physical play with Pennsbury unable to convert on four extra man opportunities due to the relentless defensive pressure and ball control offense of the Vikings.

The second half started with the teams trading goals (Tim Considine for Pennsbury and Ben Tuscai for West Chester East). The Falcons then went on a tear with four unanswered goals to take the lead. The Pennsbury ā€œDā€ began answering hit for hit and taking the ball away from the Vikings. Unlike the first half, the Falcon offense began to convert both the even strength and man-up opportunities. Peter Sweetland fed Kenneth Warren on a man-up play to make the score 4-3 Vikings, and then Ricky Jutkeiwicz toughed out a ground ball from a scrum up top and bulled his way to the equalizing score. Attackman Kenneth Warren then had two consecutive scores for the Falcons on a man-up opportunity (assisted by Tim Considine) and on an even strength goal (assisted by freshman Evan Caterson), making the score 6 ā€“ 4 Pennsbury at the end of the third quarter.

The Vikings answered the Falcon's third quarter surge with one of their own in the final period. WCE goalie Justin Laxton made a remarkable save on an inside shot by Pennsbury. Roused by their goalie's efforts, West Chester East went on a 4-0 run in the last ten minutes of the game. Utilizing strong defensive pressure up top, the Viking defense caused turnovers that led to consecutive fast break goals by Ben Tuscai to knot the score at 6's. With just under four minutes remaining, the WCE squad took advantage of a PHS penalty to convert an extra-man opportunity into a lead with Andrew Protenic netting the goal. Two minutes later Chris McCormick finished the scoring with another extra man goal.

The Vikings held off a concerted Falcon effort to climb back into the contest in the last two minutes and cleared the ball deep into PHS territory as time expired to seal the victory for West Chester East.

The loss puts PHS at 2-1 for the year and remains at 1-0 in the Suburban One National conference.
