Corey Johnson – University of Virginia (Diving)
Major: Kinesiology in the Curry School of Education
Final list of colleges: Virginia, Richmond, UNC-Wilmington
Reasons for choosing UVA: “I absolutely loved the team. I felt right at home walking around the campus, and I enjoyed everything about it on my trip.”
What was the progression that led you to diving at the collegiate level? “I knew right from the start I wanted to dive in college. Diving has been a big part of my life, and I didn’t really want to stop.”
Coach Brian Palme says: “Corey is an unbelievable talent on the board. She’s a district qualifier all three years, a state qualifier all three years. She was a district champion last year and a national qualifier. All in all, she’s just an incredible athlete. Last year she spent some time in the pool swimming laps, and she made it to districts as an individual. She’s just an incredible athlete.
“As a diver, she’s graceful as can be, and the lines she has just make everything look so crisp and clean. She’s like a ballerina and is beautiful to watch. She’s very, very technically precise in all of her actions and moves. She’s as professional as a high school athlete can be, and she treats her sport as a passion – be the best she can be. It’s awesome to watch on all levels.”
