MEN’S BASKETBALL
Junior Michael Guldin (Pennridge) had nine points and three assists in DeSales University’s 83-64 loss to Muhlenberg on Saturday.

Luke Moyer (Souderton) scored 11 points  - connecting on all three of his shots from beyond the arc – in Campbell University’s 81-66 loss to North Carolina State earlier this season.

Gettysburg senior forward Connor Poston (Hatboro-Horsham) was named the Centennial Conference Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 8. Poston averaged 16.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game while shooting 73.7 percent from the field in a 2-0 week for the Bullets. In a 60-59 victory over Washington College, he hit the game-winning free throw with four seconds left to cap a 16-point game in which he shot 6-for-8 from the floor. Poston also registered his second collegiate double-double on 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in a 70-65 win at Johns Hopkins. His 17 boards were the most by a Bullet since the 2006-07 season. On the season, Poston has averaged 9.7 points and a team-leading 6.6 rebounds per game. He has also shot a team-best 61.9 percent from the field. Among the Centennial Conference leaders, he ranks sixth in field goal percentage and eighth in rebounding.

Cabrini senior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference Honor Roll for the week ending Dec. 8. Rafferty led the Cavaliers to a pair of conference wins. He averaged 19.5 points and four rebounds per game as the Blue and White topped Marywood 90-71 and Baptist Bible College 100-71 to improve to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the CSAC. In the win over Marywood, the senior matched a career high with 28 points, including 20 before the halftime break. He connected on 6-of-10 from three-point range, also a career high. Rafferty connected on of 11-of-18 shots overall and grabbed four boards. In the win over Baptist Bible, Rafferty tallied 11 points, including a trio of three pointers, while also securing four rebounds in his team high 23 minutes on the floor. Through eight games, Rafferty’s 17.1 points per night are good enough for second on the team and fifth in the CSAC. His 3.4 made three pointers per game leads the conference while his 0.529 three-point percentage ranks third. His 0.533 overall field goal percentage ranks seventh.
Rafferty also is making his mark on the NCAA statistical rankings. His 27 made three pointers rank ninth, and his average of 3.38 three pointers per game is 23rd in the country. He connects on 52.9 percent of his three pointers, good for 21st in the country. Teammate AJ Picard (Souderton) leads Cabrini, shooting 93.0 percent from the foul line, which is good for 20th in the country.

Sophomore guard Aaron Morgan (Council Rock North) scored a season-high 10 points in UMBC’s 91-71 loss to Coppin State on Wednesday.

East Stroudsburg moved up five spots to No. 12 in last week’s NABC Division II Coaches Poll after extending its unbeaten start to 8-0. Junior guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh), named to two All-America honorable mention teams last year and a Division II Bulletin “Super 16” selection entering the season, has scored 100 points in the first four PSAC East games to increase his scoring average to 19.5 PPG. Grant scored 23 points in an 88-65 win over Mansfield, 29 in an 83-70 win at Kutztown and 24 points against both Lock Haven and Millersville.

Senior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) scored 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds in Philadelphia University’s 85-77 win over Goldey-Beacom in front of a sold out crowd on Saturday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy)
had eight points and team-high nine rebounds in Delaware Valley’s 83-55 win at Bryn Athyn on Thursday.
Senior Daniella Ciccarone (Quakertown) had a team-high eight assists and 15 rebounds to go along with 10 points in St. Thomas University’s 73-69 win over Edwards Waters on Friday. In Monday night’s 85-64 win over Johnson & Wales, Ciccarone recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Freshman Ciara Andrews (Cheltenham) contributed four points and three rebounds in St. Joseph’s 73-60 win over Hofstra on Tuesday night. The win upped the team’s record to 9-1 on the season.

Freshman Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) scored nine points in Princeton’s 75-49 win over Binghamton on Wednesday.

FOOTBALL
West Chester punter Rich Bruno (Council Rock South) has been named the 2013 Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area Football Performer of the Year. He is one of 24 student-athletes selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Football Team, which also included senior offensive lineman Trey Farmer.  The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. He has been a vital contributor this season for a West Chester team that advanced to the national semifinals of the NCAA Division II Tournament. Bruno has kicked 49 punts with an average of 40.8 yards per punt this season, amassing 1,998 yards with seven punts that have traveled 50 yards or more. He had a career-long punt of 74 yards earlier in the year and has pinned the opponent inside the 20-yard line 14 times. Of the 49 punts by Bruno, only 10 have been returned for a total of 50 yards all season long. West Chester has set a school record for victories this season. Off the field, Bruno has an equally impressive list of academic accolades. He is majoring in Exercise Science and carries a 3.87 grade-point average. He is a member of the Dean’s List and the West Chester Athletic Director’s academic honor roll. Bruno has also been named to the PSAC Academic Honor Roll and the Division 2 ADA Academic Honor Roll.
Teammate Trey Farmer, a first team All-PSAC East selection and an All-Super Region 1 pick, was also recognized by Philly-SIDA with his naming to the academic all-area squad alongside Bruno. The mainstay at left guard is making his second straight appearance on the all-area team, following his appointment to last season’s squad.

Shippensburg senior defensive end Jake Metz (Souderton) was the recipient of the Dr. Robert N and Mary Louise Richards Football Scholarship. He also received the Vinton Rambo Award, which is given to the outstanding senior lineman, as well as the Kevin Mylett Award, which is given to the most outstanding defensive player. He also was named a finalist for the inaugural Cliff Harris Award presented by the Little Rock Touchdown Club and sponsored by Wright, Lindsey & Jennings LLP. The award will be presented annually to the top small college defensive player in the country representing NCAA Division II, III and NAIA. A total of 49 finalists from the three divisions were chosen by head coaches and a selection committee of college and pro football players. An overall winner will be announced on Dec. 24 and honored at the Little Rock Touchdown Club’s annual awards banquet in February 2014 featuring guest speaker Lou Holtz. The winner will receive the $3,000 Cliff Harris Award Trophy. Metz is one of 21 finalists from Division II and one of just three from the PSAC. Metz totaled 11.0 sacks – a half sack short of tying his single-season school record – as well as 18.0 tackles for loss (13th nationally) for a country-leading 113 yards in 2013. He ranks ninth in the nation in sacks per game with 1.0 and second in the country in yards lost on sacks (99). Against Seton Hill, Metz set the school single-game TFL record with 6.0 while tying his personal best with 3.0 sacks.

Shippensburg junior wide receiver/return specialist Sheldon Mayer (Norristown) was the recipient of the George & Meriem Kaluger Award given to the special teams player of the year.

MEN’S SOCCER
La Salle sophomore Joe Farrell (Wissahickon) was named to the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region team. The Wissahickon grad, a third team selection, tallied nine points (two goals, five assists) on the year, third most on the Explorers. Four of Farrell’s assists were of the game-winning variety. His five-assist output was tied for seventh most in the conference. The sophomore started all 19 games in which he played this season and put 11 shots on goal, second most on the team.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cedarville University freshman Grace Miorelli (Souderton) was named to the 2013 Daktronics NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer All-Midwest Regional first team. She also received Daktronics NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer honorable All-America honorable mention recognition. The freshman midfielder was an All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference first team selection after scoring 10 goals and handing out four assists for 24 points. She was ranked fourth in goals in the G-MAC.

MEN’S SWIMMING
Bloomsburg’s Bobby Lenahan (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 12th in the 200 backstroke at the 2013 Zippy Invitational. In the prelims, Lenahan posted a PSAC cut time of 2:03.43. Tyler Washington (Central Bucks West) finished ninth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.28. He posted a new PSAC qualifying mark in the morning prelims and bettered it in the finals. Matt Ortlieb (North Penn) posted a new PSAC qualifying time in the 200 butterfly prelims with a time of 2:03.17. Mark DiLemmo (Central Bucks East) was eighth in the ‘A’ finals of the 200 fly with a time of 1:57.02.

Shippensburg junior R.J. Phiambolis (Pennridge) finished 18th in the 400-yard IM with a PSAC cut time of 4:27.38 at the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca University. He also was part of the 400 medley relay team that finished seventh with a time of 3:38.59 as well as the sixth place 800 free relay that posted a time of 7:15.05. Tyler McLaughlin (Central Bucks South) posted a time of 1:53.66 in the 200 free as well as a time of 1:02.86 in the 100 breast.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Bloomsburg’s Alex Wheatley (Upper Dublin) posted a new PSAC qualifying mark in the 200 backstroke preliminaries at the 2013 Zippy Invitational with a time of 2:06.13. In the finals, Wheatley finished seventh. Teammate Chelsea Wysong (Springfield) posted PSAC qualifying time in the 200 breast.

Shippensburg sophomore Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) posted a PSAC cut of 1:00.17 in the 100 backstroke. Meier’s time ranks eighth in school history. Meier recorded an NCAA ‘B’ cut with a top five finish in the 100 free with a time of 52.62. She also was part of the 400 free relay that posted an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 3:31.16.   Meier and Devon Perugini (Neshaminy) were part of the 200 free relay that finished second with a time of 1:36.80.  Colleen Stiles (North Penn) swam a season PR of 1:59.90 to finish 13th for a PSAC cut time in the 200 freestyle. Stiles placed sixth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:08.57, just one-tenth of a second off her season best. Stiles and Meier were both part of the 400 medley relay that finished second with a time of 4:23.26.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Members of the University of Pittsburgh track and field team collected over 50 toys to donate to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve ‘Toys for Tots’ Program this holiday season. Chris Spadaro (Council Rock South) and members of the women’s track and field team along with their coaches donated the new, unwrapped toys last Wednesday to help less fortunate children in need of gifts this holiday. 

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Franklin & Marshall’s Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to the Eastern Athletic Conference (ECAC) 2013 Division III South Volleyball All-Star First Team. The distinction is the second of her career, having landed on the second team after her freshman campaign. The junior middle hitter continues to collect postseason honors after garnering American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American Honorable Mention accolades, landing a spot on the AVCA Mid-Atlantic Region First Team and picking up the second Centennial Conference (CC) Player of the Year award in her career. Harvey was second in the conference in hitting percentage (.358) and first in total blocks (104). Her 1.07 blocks per set average also ranked first while her 3.31 kills per set was good for seventh. She led the Diplomats to a 24-6 record on the year that included a 10-0 mark in conference play. The Diplomats captured the CC regular season title for the second consecutive year before dropping a heartbreaking 3-1 match to Johns Hopkins in the semifinals.

WRESTLING
Kutztown sophomore Matt Martoccio (Council Rock South) is ranked seventh at 157 in the latest Basford Division II Regional Rankings. Kutztown is ranked third in the region and 17th in the Division II National Rankings.

Bloomsburg’s Matt Rappo (Council Rock South) finished fourth at the Cleveland State Open on Saturday. Rappo, wrestling at 141 pounds, opened the day with two wins before losing to the eventual champion. In the consolation bracket, Rappo won by major decision, 12-3, over Pat Hogan of the Finger Lakes, before winning by default and forfeit to reach the consolation final. In the finals, he lost 3-2 to Daniel Neff of Lock Haven.

James Vollrath (Council Rock South) earned an 11-5 decision at 157 in No. 6 Penn State’s 31-6 win over Ohio State in its Big Ten Dual Opener on Sunday in front of a sell-out crowd of over 6,300.
