Freshman Josh Johnson (Norristown) scored 16 of his career-high 22 points in the second half and finished the game connecting on 10-of-11 shots in Kutztown’s 76-64 win over Cheyney on Saturday.
Senior guard Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting in Bloomsburg’s 63-53 loss to sixth-ranked IUP on Wednesday.
Chris Davis (Norristown) scored a team-high 20 points in Alvernia’s 89-78 loss to #20 Messiah College on Saturday.
Senior point guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury), playing in his first home game of the season, scored 18 points on 50 percent shooting and was 8-for-9 on foul shots in Ursinus College’s 94-70 loss to Dickinson on Saturday. He also had six assists. In Wednesday’s 90-76 loss to Gettysburg, sophomore guard Mark Wonderling (Souderton) had a team-high seven rebounds.
Junior Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a season-high 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting and also pulled down four rebounds in Shippensburg’s 101-71 loss to No. 10 East Stroudsburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 84-81 loss to Edinboro, Pygatt had six points.
Luke Moyer (Souderton) contributed six points and four assists in Campbell’s 74-71 win over High Point on Wednesday.
Junior Michael Guldin (Pennridge) scored nine points off the bench in DeSales University’s 76-63 loss to Catholic University on Wednesday.
Junior Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 16 points in Randolph-Macon’s 81-72 win over Lynchburg on Saturday.
Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) scored 23 points and added 12 rebounds to record his eighth double-double of the season in Gwynedd Mercy’s 86-68 win over Rosemont on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 90-70 win over Baptist Bible, Goodman led all scorers with 27 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Julian Hyden (Bensalem) added 13 points.
Senior guard Kenny Gula (Quakertown) scored 15 points in Moravian’s 91-90 loss to Goucher College on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 66-53 win over John Jay College (N.Y.) in the championship game of the 36th Annual Roosevelt’s Greyhound Classic, Gula had eight points, five rebounds and three assists.
Zach Sibel (Pennsbury) hit a trio of three-pointers and finished with 10 points in Delaware Valley’s 87-82 road victory over Penn State Berks on Wednesday.
Senior AJ Picard (Souderton) hit 8-of-11 shots, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, and finished the day with 21 points in No. 4 Cabrini’s 96-72 come-from-behind win over Centenary on Saturday. Senior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) also was 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, posting 17 points and a career high three blocked shots. In Wednesday’s 91-51 win over Cairn University, Rafferty had eight points and five rebounds.
Junior guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 19 points to help lead No. 10-ranked East Stroudsburg to a 101-71 win over Shippensburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 81-68 at Pitt-Johnstown, Grant had 15 points.
Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) scored 24 points, including eight over the final 6:45, in Temple’s 79-69 loss to #24/22 Memphis on Saturday. In Thursday’s 82-75 loss to the University of South Florida, Pepper had 17 points.
Senior center Connor Poston (Hatboro-Horsham) pulled down 11 rebounds in Gettysburg’s 77-69 loss to Muhlenberg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 90-76 win over Ursinus, Poston scored 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, and he scored eight straight points during a decisive Gettysburg run early in the second half. Poston also grabbed six rebounds for the Bullets, who shot a season-high 58.2 percent from the field.
Junior forward Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) collected his seventh double-double of the season in Penn State Abington’s 72-60 win over Wells College on Saturday, contributing 14 points and 12 rebounds. In Monday’s 89-75 loss to Arcadia, 89-75 the Hatboro alum scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Marvin also was recognized as one of 82 Penn State Abington student-athletes from 13 teams for completing the fall 2013 semester with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Sophomore Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) contributed 13 points and three assists in No. 8/10 Villanova’s 74-67 win over St. John’s on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 83-67 win over Seton Hall, Arcidiacono keyed a 9-0 run with a pair of three-pointers. He finished the night with 14 points, which tied for a season high.
Senior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) grabbed a season and game-high 10 rebounds in Philadelphia University’s 86-53 loss to Holy Family on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 90-85 win over Wilmington (Del.), Christian had six assists.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack in St. Joseph’s 72-35 win over Rhode Island on Wednesday. The Hawks improved to 12-3 overall. In last Sunday’s 74-67 loss to George Washington, Andrews had a team-high 18 points, including a three-point play to cap a 16-6 run that knotted the score 65-65 as the Hawks rallied back from a 16-point deficit.
Junior center Emily Leer (Abington) had six points, five rebounds and three assists in Villanova’s 70-48 win at Butler on Wednesday.
Senior Daniella Ciccarone (Quakertown) scored 15 points and pulled down six rebounds in St. Thomas University’s 75-53 win over Webber International on Saturday. In Thursday’s 61-54 road win over Florida Memorial, Ciccarone had five points, six rebounds and six assists. In Monday’s 81-71 win over Southeastern, the Quakertown grad recorded her team-best fourth double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Sophomore Emily O’Donnell (William Tennent) scored 18 points in 19 minutes on 7-of-12 shooting in Albright’s 60-57 loss to Elizabethtown on Saturday. In Monday’s 65-59 loss to Messiah, O’Donnell scored a game-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
Sophomore Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) contributed 15 points and seven rebounds in Shippensburg’s 71-62 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 94-74 loss to Edinboro, Knauer had 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting to accompany her six rebounds.
Senior forward Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) recorded her first double-double of the season in Lock Haven’s 91-65 loss to West Chester on Saturday. The Neshaminy grad had a season-high 13 rebounds and 12 points.
Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) scored 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field in Princeton’s 84-53 win at Penn on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Helena Gemmell (Council Rock North) contributed six points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists in East Stroudsburg’s 74-65 win at Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday.
Gwynedd Mercy senior guard Jordan Dominic (Pennridge) was named the CSAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 5. The Pennridge grad was lethal from downtown in three games, going 11-for-17 (64 percent) in a 1-2 week for the Griffins. Overall, she shot 54 percent from the floor while averaging five assists per contest. In the Vegas Hoopla against Eastern Connecticut, she scored nine points on three treys and also had six assists. In the upset win over nationally-ranked Vassar, she hit three treys to finish with 11 points and four assists. In the Griffins’ game against King’s, she sank five three-pointers while totaling 17 points. On the season, she leads the team in three-pointers made (27) and assists (37) and is ranked in the top 10 in the conference in those categories. She averages 8.9 points a game for Gwynedd.
Natasha Matthews (Norristown) scored 10 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 93-45 win over Cedar Crest on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 65-55 win over Centenary, Matthews led the Griffins on the boards with 10 rebounds. Dominic scored 10 points. In Monday’s 84-62 loss to Catholic, Matthews had 10 points.
Jessica Schmidt (Abington) scored 10 points in Penn State Abington’s 60-47 loss to Wells College on Saturday. In Thursday’s 58-49 loss to Trinity, Schmidt led all scorers with 15 points. She also was recognized as one of 82 Penn State Abington student-athletes from 13 teams for completing the fall 2013 semester with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

California University (Pa.) junior offensive lineman Jack Abercrombie (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to the Don Hansen All-Super Region One second team. The Hatboro grad started all 11 games at center after starting primarily at right guard last year. Abercrombie advanced to the national ballot for Don Hansen All-America consideration. The Don Hansen teams carry out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away in 2010. Hansen started and published Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988 and all-region teams in 2003.

Alex Cohen (Abington) smashed pool and school records on both the one and three-meter boards in Towson’s 183-115 win over George Mason at Burdick Pool on Saturday. Cohen, who already held both records entering Saturday’s meet, scored 308.85 points on the one-meter board and 339.83 points in the three-meter event, winning both. With the win, Towson improved to 9-1.
Junior Ben Mancini (Springfield) scored wins in the distance events in Washington & Jefferson’s 146-103 win over Bethany on Wednesday. He touched the wall in 10:52.94 during the 1000 race and also claimed the victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:14.74.
Junior RJ Phiambolis (Pennridge) finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.78 in Shippensburg’s 132-122 loss to Edinboro on Saturday. He finished third in the 200 IM (2:07.73) and fourth in the 500 free (5:06.49) and was part of the 200 free relay that finished third with a time of 1:34.80.
Bloomsburg’s Bobby Lenahan (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 21st among freshmen with a time of 29:04 in the International Swimming Hall of Fame’s Rough Water Swim in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 4. Teammate Greg Beyer (Wissahickon) was 26th. Mark DiLemmo (Central Bucks East) finished 18th in the senior male group with a time of 27:55.2. At the 2014 CSCAA Bob Mowerson Meet on Tuesday, Lenahan posted a time of 33.37 in the 50-meter backstroke.

Sophomore Natalee Szopo (Upper Moreland) won both the one-meter and three-meter events in Towson’s 235-65 win over George Mason on Saturday at Burdick Pool. The Upper Moreland grad qualified for the NCAA zone regionals with 295.58 points on the three-meter board and 277.43 points on the one-meter board. Towson improved to 11-0 on the season.

Jan Ikeda (North Penn) captured the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.66 in Lebanon Valley’s 154-95 loss to Lycoming on Saturday. In Thursday’s 167-83 loss to Misericordia, Ikeda won the 200 IM in 2:23.44, winning by nearly a second. She also captured the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:06.80.
Sophomore Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) finished second in the 200 free (2:05.67) and teammate Colleen Stiles (North Penn) took fourth in the event with a time of 2:05.67 in Shippensburg’s 139-117 loss to Edinboro on Saturday. Stiles finished third in the 200 back (2:14.57) and fifth in the 500 free (5:53.32). Meier was fifth in the 200 back (2:21.95) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:22.53). She also was part of the 200 free relay that finished second with a time of 1:40.40. Devon Perugini (Neshaminy) finished fifth in the 50 free (56.75). Stiles and Perugini were part of the third place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:58.40. Perugini also was part of the third place 200 free relay.
Kutztown’s Caitlyn Falguera (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a time of 39.73 in the 50 back at the Bob Mowerson Invite in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Tuesday.
Amanda Thomas (William Tennent) was part of Millersville’s 500 freestyle relay that finished third with a time of 5:06.66 in the South Florida Relays on Sunday afternoon against West Chester and IUP. She also was part of the 400 free relay that posted a time of 3:58.69 and finished third. The Marauders fell 145-25 to the Golden Rams and 136-34 to IUP.

Joe Stolfi (Souderton) won by a fall in 2:45 at 285 pounds in Bucknell’s 19-18 loss to The Citadel at Friday’s Virginia Duals. He won by a fall in 1:37 in Bucknell’s 27-9 win over George Mason, and he lost a 7-1 decision to No. 16 Justin Grant in Bucknell’s 24-11 loss to No. 22 Bloomsburg.
Greg Kabakjian (Souderton) earned an 8-5 decision at 149 pounds in Messiah’s 21-15 win over SUNY Cortland in the championship match of the 2014 Bud Whitehall Duals hosted by Lycoming College on Saturday. It is the first time Messiah has won the championship.
Richard Jasinski (Pennridge) earned a 14-3 major decision at 157 in No. 21 Ursinus College’s 39-9 win over Trinity (Conn.) on Saturday at the 2014 North/South Duals hosted by Ursinus. He earned a pin in 1:14 in the Bears’ 37-6 win over Hunter, a 16-5 major decision in Ursinus College’s 36-9 win over King’s and a 13-4 major decision in the Bears’ 35-6 win over Wesleyan (Conn.). The Bears finished a perfect 4-0 on the afternoon.
Matt Martoccio (Council Rock South) helped his seventh-ranked Kutztown squad regain the lead with his 5-3 decision at 157 pounds in the Golden Bears’ 24-18 win over Truman State at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals on Saturday. He also earned a 4-2 decision in Kutztown’s 24-18 win over Indianapolis. With their two wins over nationally recognized programs, the Golden Bears advanced to the third round of the NWCA National Duals on Sunday. Kutztown came back to defeat Lake Erie but fell to Fort Hays State and finished sixth at the National Dual Invite.
Matt Rappo (Council Rock South) earned an 8-4 decision in No. 22 Bloomsburg’s 24-11 win over Bucknell at the 34th annual Virginia Duals Wrestling Tournament on Friday.
