MEN’S BASKETBALL
Junior All-America guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) posted a career-high 31 points in No. 6 East Stroudsburg’s 107-94 win at West Chester on Saturday. The Warriors remain unbeaten, upping their record to 18-0. In Wednesday’s 60-44 win over Cheyney, Grant had 14 points and a career-high eight rebounds.
Penn State Abington junior Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men’s basketball player of the week and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 19. The junior forward led Abington to a pair of conference wins behind averages of 22.5 points, 14.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting nearly 59 percent (17-of-29) from the field and nearly 79 percent (11-of-14) from the free throw line. Marvin posted game highs of 26 points and 16 rebounds in an 80-73 win over Morrisville State and followed that with 19 points, a game-best 13 boards and four assists in an 85-73 win over Cazenovia College to help the Nittany Lions extend their winning streak to four games. The two double-doubles gave Marvin five straight and 10 on the season. He went into last weekend ranked 11th nationally in that category. His NEAC-best averages of 23.2 points and 12.8 rebounds per contest also are nationally ranked 10th and seventh respectively.
Marvin contributed 21 points and 13 rebounds for his 12th double-double in Penn State Abington’s 112-91 loss to SUNYIT on Sunday. In Saturday’s 60-50 loss to SUNY Cobleskill, Marvin had 14 points and 10 rebounds. In Wednesday’s 80-75 loss to Bryn Athyn, Marvin had 18 points and eight rebounds.
Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) scored a game-high 19 points in Bloomsburg’s 86-70 win over Mansfield on Wednesday night.
Senior guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) scored 18 points and also handed out seven assists in Ursinus College’s 78-69 loss to McDaniel on Saturday. Freshman guard John Kanas (Souderton) added 10 points. In Wednesday’s, 82-66 loss to Muhlenberg, Krasna contributed 16 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists.
Senior center Connor Poston (Hatboro-Horsham) finished with a game-high 11 rebounds and eight points in Gettysburg’s 67-64 overtime win at Washington College on Saturday.
Junior Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored seven points in Shippensburg’s 88-71 loss at Millersville on Saturday.
Sophomore Julian Hyden (Bensalem) scored eight points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 82-62 win over Baptist Bible on Saturday.
Senior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) contributed a season-best 18 points and four steals in Philadelphia University’s 72-57 win over Bloomfield on Saturday. In Thursday’s 85-63 win at Georgian Court, Christian had nine points and a game-high seven assists.
Freshman guard Austin Murphy (Souderton) scored a career-high nine points in Washington College’s 67-64 loss to Gettysburg on Saturday. Junior Sean Brooks (North Penn) added eight points, three rebounds and two steals.
Wes Brooks (North Penn) scored 16 points and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds in McDaniel’s 52-47 win over Gettysburg on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 78-69 win over Ursinus, Brooks had six points and seven rebounds.
Junior Travis Bryan (Hatboro-Horsham) came off the bench to contribute a game-high 11 rebounds and three blocked shots in DeSales University’s 84-75 win over Delaware Valley last Saturday.
Chris Davis (Norristown) scored 11 points in Alvernia’s 75-67 win over Arcadia on Wednesday.
Ryan Connolly (Souderton) of the Kutztown University men’s basketball team was selected to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Media Organization’s January Scholar-Athlete Team. Despite missing some time due to injury, the second-year swing man started 13 games for the Golden Bears this season and has started 40 of 42 career games in two seasons. With 23 converted three-point attempts, he is the only KU player with double-digit three-pointers, averaging 1.6 per game. Connolly has gone 29-for-34 from the foul line this year for a team-leading .853 free throw percentage. Averaging 9.4 points per game this season while being the main shooting threat for KU, Connolly also has logged seven blocks, tied for second best on the team. Named as a 2012-13 PSAC Scholar-Athlete, Connolly holds a 3.62 GPA through his first three semesters at KU, majoring in business administration. As a freshman, Connolly was involved with the College of Business and was a dean’s list recipient.
Connolly scored 13 points, including three three-pointers and the go-ahead three, in Kutztown’s 62-58 road victory at Shippensburg on Wednesday. Josh Johnson (Norristown) scored eight points. In Saturday’s 72-61 win over Bloomsburg, Johnson scored a game-high 17 points, made 5-of-6 free throws and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
Zach Sibel (Pennsbury) scored eight points in Delaware Valley’s 84-68 loss at Misericordia on Saturday.
Junior Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed 13 points and four assists in Randolph-Macon’s 70-57 win over Roanoke on Saturday.
Senior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) tallied 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists in No. 3 Cabrini’s 94-84 win at Keystone College on Saturday. The win improved the team to 16-0, including 10-0 in conference play. In Wednesday’s 92-68 win over Neumann, Rafferty connected on 5-of-9 from three-point range and scored 25 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Sophomore point guard Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) scored 20 points and had a career high 11 assists and zero turnovers in Villanova’s 94-85 overtime win at Marquette on Saturday.
Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) scored a career-high 33 points that included a career-high eight three-pointers in Temple’s 80-76 loss to #15/16 Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon. The Pennsbury grad scored 27 of those points in the second half, allowing the Owls to come all the way back from a 19-point deficit to knot the score 76-76 on Pepper’s eighth three-pointer. In Tuesday’s 90-66 loss to the University of Connecticut, Pepper scored 12 points in Temple’s 90-66 loss to the University of Connecticut on Tuesday.
Senior guard Kenny Gula (Quakertown) scored 11 points in Moravian’s 68-63 loss to Susquehanna University on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 68-66 win over The United States Merchant Marine Academy, Gula had nine points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Emily Leer (Abington) finished with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks in Villanova’s 61-32 win over Xavier on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Helena Gemmell (Council Rock North) had seven points in East Stroudsburg’s 83-68 loss to West Chester on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 70-58 win over Cheyney, Gemmell scored 11 points.
Senior Jordan Dominic (Pennridge) scored 15 points and junior Kristen Fuery (Upper Dublin) had 14 as the duo combined for nine of the team’s 13 three-pointers in Gwynedd Mercy’s 85-74 win over Keystone College on Saturday. Dominic buried five treys while Fuery added four. Junior Natasha Matthews (Norristown) scored 13 points. In Wednesday’s 72-65 loss to Marywood, Matthews had 10 points. In last Monday’s 77-74 loss to Neumann, Dominic had eight points, four assists and a career-high six steals. Matthews grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
Sophomore Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) hauled in a game-high 12 rebounds in addition to scoring six points in Shippensburg’s 86-57 win over Kutztown on Wednesday.
Amie Eppolito (Pennsbury) poured in a career high 26 points in Cairn University’s 86-43 loss to Neumann University on Saturday. She also had seven rebounds and four assists. In Cairn’s 38-30 win over Notre Dame (Md.) University on Thursday, Eppolito had 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists. In Cairn’s 92-46 loss to Rosemont on Monday, Eppolito had 19 points, eight assists and five rebounds.
Freshman Lauren Crisler (North Penn) contributed seven points off the bench in American University’s 64-63 loss to Army on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 63-56 win over Boston University, Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North) pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds while Crisler contributed six points off the bench.
Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) had six points and 10 rebounds in Delaware Valley’s 63-55 win over Manhattanville on Thursday.
Colleen Hinde (Wissahickon) scored 14 points in Neumann University’s 86-43 win over Cairn on Saturday. In Monday’s 77-74 win over Gwynedd Mercy, Hinde scored 14 points.
Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) had five points and two steals in St. Joe’s 75-69 win over George Washington on Wednesday.
Jessica Schmidt (Abington) contributed 13 points, nine rebounds and two steals in Penn State Abington’s 47-40 loss to SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 61-36 win over Wilson, Schmidt had 15 points and 14 rebounds. Schmidt scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the Nittany Lions’ 50-38 loss to Elmira College on Monday.
Junior guard Devin Gold (Council Rock North) contributed seven points and four rebounds in Caldwell College’s come-from-behind 62-57 win over the University of the Sciences on Saturday.
Emily O’Donnell (William Tennent) had 10 points and seven rebounds in Albright’s 67-65 overtime win at Lycoming on Wednesday.
Senior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) led Cabrini to a 66-48 win over Centenary College on Saturday with 20 points, including 4-of-8 from three-point range. In Cabrini’s 81-54 win over Marywood on Monday, Sandone had 18 points, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Senior forward Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) scored seven points in Lock Haven’s 80-72 loss to Cheyney on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 74-47 loss to Millersville, Ryan contributed eight rebounds and two assists.
Freshman center Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) scored 16 of her career-high tying 22 points in the second half of Alvernia’s come-from-behind 54-51 win over Arcadia on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 64-61 loss to Lebanon Valley, Roberts had 10 points.
Freshman Curtrena Goff (Upper Dublin) earned a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in Rosemont College’s overtime victory against Neumann on Wednesday. In Monday’s 92-46 win over Cairn, Goff had 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was her second consecutive game with double figure assists.
Sophomore forward Carley Kendall (Souderton) contributed eight points and seven rebounds in Washington College’s 55-51 loss to Gettysburg on Saturday.
FOOTBALL
Lebanon Valley left guard Brendan Kozub (Council Rock North) has been named second team all-America by D3football.com. A senior captain, Kozub led an offensive line that was one of the MAC’s best. He started all 11 games at left guard and helped LVC rank third in the MAC with 207.5 yards rushing per game while allowing just 15 sacks in pass protection during the regular season. Kozub did not allow a sack individually as the o-line’s top pass protector. Behind the line, LVC racked up nine 100-yard rushing performances and had a 441-yard team effort against Misericordia. He helped lead LVC to its first Middle Atlantic Conference title since 1969.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Senior Sean Staerk (Abington) and junior Ashton Leyens (Upper Dublin) were part of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:27.42) in Gettysburg’s 162-99 win over Mary Washington on Saturday.
Junior RJ Phiambolis (Pennridge) was part of the winning 400 medley relay that posted a time of 3:45.28 in Shippensburg’s 135-126 win over Davis & Elkins on Saturday.
Dave Derr (Upper Dublin) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.30 in La Salle’s 223-74 win over Loyola (Md.) on Saturday. He also won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.77. On the diving board, 
CJ Gimpel (Central Bucks South) won both his events, scoring a 266.92 on the 1-meter board and a 241.28 on the 3-meter board.
Freshman Ian Flynn (Upper Dublin) was part of Rider’s second place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:36.55 at a quad meet at Rutgers on Saturday.
Junior Ben Mancini (Springfield) won both the 1,000 and 500 freestyle in Washington & Jefferson’s 100-90 win over Hiram on Saturday, posting a time of 11:03.64 in the 1,000 free and 5:08.19 in the 500 free.
Spencer Collopy (North Penn) finished third in the 50 free with a time of 23.48 in Ursinus College’s 107-98 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. He also finished third in the 100 free with a time of 52.06.
Junior TJ Schenkel (Council Rock South) improved his career-best mark of 355.15 that he set earlier this season at the Bucknell Invitational with a score of 355.43 for a first place finish in the three-meter diving at Penn State’s 171-127 win over Navy on Saturday. The victory is Schenkel’s second in the three-meter competition and fourth overall this season.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Kate Dillione (Council Rock North) won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.88 in Brown’s 165-76 win over Bryant on Friday. In Saturday’s 185-113 loss to Columbia, Dillione was part of the winning 400 freestyle with a time of 3:27.62. She finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.68.
Amanda Thomas (William Tennent) was part of Millersville’s winning 200 freestyle relay that touched the wall in 1:44.26 in Millersville’s 148-110 loss to Kutztown on Saturday.
Senior Colleen Stiles (North Penn) won the 200 individual medley (2:18.19) and finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:13.64) in Shippensburg’s 152-67 win over Davis & Elkins on Saturday. Sophomore Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:00.83 and posted the fastest time in the 500 freestyle (5:29.07).
Melanie Felkner (Pennsbury) finished second in the 200 butterfly in Kutztown’s 148-110 win over Millersville on Saturday. Aimee Watkins (Hatboro-Horsham) posted season-high marks in the 500 and 1000 freestyle, and Caitlyn Falguera (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a season best time in the 200 backstroke.
Abby Miller (Neshaminy) was part of Lock Haven’s second place 200 freestyle relay that posted a time of 1:45.88 at the Vulcan Dual Meet Challenge hosted by California (Pa.) on Saturday.
The College of New Jersey sophomore Sarah Richards (Central Bucks East) finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:23.78 at the New Jersey Athletic Championship on Saturday. She also finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:03.81. TCNJ captured its sixth consecutive New Jersey Athletic Championship.
Marisa Ferrari (Central Bucks East) was part of the second place 400 medley relay team in Ursinus College’s 114-89 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) finished third in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.38 and second in the 500 free (5:21.76).
Towson’s Natalee Szopo (Upper Moreland) has qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving regionals.
Jan Ikeda (North Penn) won the 200 free (2:17.84) and led off the winning 200 free relay (1:52.82) in Lebanon Valley’s 178-82 loss to Messiah on Saturday. She also was second in the 400 free (4:55.23).
Ali Roth (Central Bucks West) won the 50 freestyle (25.04) and the 100 freestyle (55.79) in Gettysburg’s 166-96 win over Mary Washington on Saturday.
Emily Houser (Upper Dublin) had a triple-win afternoon in Dickinson’s 142-63 win at Washington College on Saturday. She led off the first place 400 medley relay (4:11.83) and added wins in the 50 freestyle (25.43) and 200 backstroke (2:15.65).
Taylor Mateja (Upper Merion) finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:22.60 in Franklin & Marshall’s 114-89 loss to Ursinus on Saturday.

Junior Richard Jasinski (Pennridge) recorded a 6-2 decision in Ursinus College’s 26-13 win over The United States Merchant Marine Academy. In the Bears’ 46-6 win over Gettysburg, Jasinski earned a pin in 1:16.
