Lindsay Walder – St. Joseph’s University (Soccer)

Major:  Undecided but possibly Allied Health

Final list of colleges:  St. Joe’s, Temple, La Salle

Reasons for choosing St. Joe’s:  “I received offers from all three schools. I had a couple of overnight visits to each of them, and when I made my final decision, it came down to – after I had my overnight at St. Joe’s and I met the team, I saw a game, I saw a practice, everything felt right. It felt like the perfect fit for me.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate soccer?  “It came down to when I was about 13-14 and becoming a freshman - that is when I switched over from my old soccer club VE to FC Delco. That’s when I really became serious. I’ve been passionate my whole life about soccer, but that’s when I really realized I could do something great with it.”

Coach Lisa Benvenuto says:  “Lindsay is a coach’s dream come true. When it comes down to dedication, desire and overall maturity level on the field and off the field, she’s a go-to. She hands down was basically the string that tied this entire team together. Whether she wanted to be a vocal leader or a silent leader, that’s what she encompasses.
“I have coached at the Division III level, I played at the Division One level, and my first time coaching Lindsay she was in seventh grade. I saw in her skills and vision that you can’t teach. It’s something that you just have. She intrinsically has that. Although her size might be small – she’s not large, but when she’s out on that field, she plays like she’s two people. She’s not easily scared, she’s not easily intimidated, and she’ll take on anybody. If she doesn’t beat you the first time, she’ll certainly get you the second time. It’s going to be a large void to fill, but the kids that are here see what they need to do if they want to be like her.”
