WISSAHICKON GIRLS’ LACROSSE PREVIEW
Coach: David Schlesinger (2nd Year at Wiss; 7th year coaching HS girls lacrosse)
Last year's record: 13-6 (including playoff loss to WC Henderson HS); 11-3 in Suburban One League
Key losses: Laura Frankenfield (All American, Academic All American, Team MVP, All-time leading scorer at Wiss), Jackie Hibbs (2nd team All SOL defender, 104 GB pickups in 2013)
Key returnees:
• Zoe Gomez - classic power forward with amazing skills, speed, agility, and smarts.
• Audrey Mack - returning defensive stalwart, last season's Most Improved Player, toughest minded player on the team. Could be a prominent leader this season.
• Lauren Irvine - received the coveted #13 from Laura Frankenfield at last year's season ending banquet. Tremendous physical talent; strong, fast, skilled. Can she live up to the standards of #13?
• Julie Silverman - top GK, will be her 3rd season as the starting varsity goalie. Loves the game, works tirelessly to improve. Vocal leader in the defensive zone.
• Rachel Zucker - Returning starting Attacker. Terrific vocal leader of the team.
• Taylor Myers - Returning starting Attacker. Has the physical ability to be a difference maker every game.
• Marie Dickson - Started most games or top reserve as a freshman. Should be a starter and major contributor this year. Can play the entire field.
• Shannon Stagliano - Ground ball machine, very smart and unselfish player that should become a goal scoring contributor this season.
Others to watch:
Amanda Mitchell - Junior defender with great speed and anticipation.
Five freshmen that could contend for varsity playing time: Emily Vervlied, Caroline Wilde, Christina Tsiobikas, Meghan DeGroat, and Kyra Myers (GK).
Strengths: Offensive firepower, especially from Zoe Gomez, Lauren Irvine, Rachel Zucker, and Taylor Myers. Goaltending should be a strength with GK Silverman
Question marks: Team defense and transition defense
Outlook: We will be very young but very talented this season. We expect to improve as the season progresses and to contend for our league championship.
