Springfield Township Girls' Lacrosse Preview

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP GIRLS’ LACROSSE PREVIEW

Head Coach: Maggie Canavan (first year as head coach)

Last Year's Record:10-8

Key Losses: Springfield graduated a handful of wonderful seniors last year. We will definitely miss the presence of Libby Field, Katie Morris, and Colleen Morris in the midfield. All three are tremendous athletes that brought a lot to the game. On the defensive end, the team will have to fill the shoes of Ione Gallagher, who was a natural leader. Between the pipes, we will be missing Mariel Mancini. She was an amazing goalie and always kept her composure as she was the last line of defense on our team.

Key Returnees:  Returning for their final season of high school play, we have seniors Riley Greenleaf, Juli Cardamone, and Marie Brockman. You will see these players anywhere on the field. As captains of our team this year, all three of these girls have natural instincts to be leaders both on and off the field. They bring intensity and enthusiasm to both the offense and defense. I am very excited that I get to be a part of these three girls' high school career before they all move on to collegiate play.

Others to Watch:  On the defensive end, we have Molly Bauer taking over as goalie. She has already made outstanding progress this preseason and I am more than excited to have her in the cage. Miranda Holt will be the senior voice leading the defense this year. In the midfield, watch out for sophomore Meredith Giordano who is really emerging as a topnotch athlete. On the attacking end, you cannot take sophomores Marley Berger and Meg Chandler for granted. Their skills have developed into pure talent.

Strengths:  This year’s team is a wonderful group of young ladies. The enthusiasm they bring to practice every day is truly contagious. They work hard to produce results. Our six seniors - Juli Cardamone, Marie Brockman, Riley Greenleaf, Colleen Canavan, Emily Levins, and Miranda Holt - are all natural leaders that have instilled their work ethic into all the underclassmen. We all have the utmost respect for each of them. We are a fast team this year that doesn't take anything for granted. I think our biggest skill is how versatile our team is. From freshmen to seniors, I can honestly say I would trust any single player in any position on the field. The want and will to succeed is very apparent in every girls play, whether on the defensive or attack side.

Outlooks: Springfield is going to be an emerging team this year in Suburban One. We are going to be like that winter cold you just can't shake. We'll be the team that just won't back down without a fair fight. We work hard and strive to see our hard work pay off.
