BASEBALL
West Virginia junior second baseman Billy Fleming (Council Rock South) earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors for his performance for the week ending March 23 that included a win over No. 12 North Carolina. Fleming batted .647 (11-for-17) with four runs, one double, five RBIs, two walks and one stolen base in four games. Fleming had a pair of two-hit games, one three-hit game and one four-hit game. Against UNC, Fleming went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks. The junior then went 2-for-4 with two singles in the series opener at UNC Wilmington, while going 3-for-5 and 4-for-5 to close out the week, scoring four runs and driving in three in the final two games. This is Fleming’s first career Big 12 weekly honor.
Craig Lepre (North Penn) was 1-for-3 with a run scored in the University of Albany’s 14-4 loss to Bryant on Saturday. In Friday’s 13-3 loss to Bryant, Lepre roped a pair of doubles and had a pair of RBIs and one run scored.

Jim Smith (North Penn) had a hit and RBI in Saint Peter’s 11-3 loss to Seton Hall on Thursday.

Clay Sebesky (Central Bucks East) singled, scored two runs and drove in a run in Kutztown’s 13-1 win over Bloomfield College on Thursday. Brandon Martinez (North Penn) added a single and two stolen bases, and Ryan Clow (Central Bucks East) threw a scoreless ninth, fanning a pair.

Joey Nieves-Markee (Bensalem) went 1-for-2 with a triple and two walks in Cairn University’s 14-7 loss to Keuka on Wednesday. In Tuesday’s 13-6 loss to Lancaster Bible College, Nieves-Markee was 3-for-4.

Andrew Check (Central Bucks West) delivered an RBI single in Eastern University’s 5-2 loss to Misericordia Saturday. In Thursday’s 5-4 loss to Swarthmore in nine innings, Tyler Orr (Neshaminy) had a pair of hits while Check had one hit. In Tuesday’s 12-1 loss to Haverford, Orr contributed a double.

Junior leftfielder Ken McCormick (Pennsbury) contributed an RBI single in Philadelphia University’s 13-4 loss to East Stroudsburg on Wednesday.

Junior Matt Hanson (Central Bucks West) was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs in Moravian’s 5-2 win over Juniata on Saturday. In Thursday’s 7-5 win over Montclair State, Hanson was 2-for-4 while teammate Daniel Seitzinger (Central Bucks West) was 2-for-5. Both players contributed doubles.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Temple senior guard Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) was named to the Philadelphia Big 5 second team. Pepper, who was the first Temple player to make a three-pointer in every game of a season, led the Owls in scoring at 17.5 points, three-pointers made (84) and percentage (.375) per game and minutes played (1171, 37.5 mpg). He also ranked second in assists (74) and steals (32). The Pennsbury grad made 61 of 70 attempts from the free throw line for an 87.1 percentage to lead all Big 5 Players. The Owls’ lone senior also had the third best scoring improvement among all Division I players, increasing his average 14.6 ppg from his junior to senior season.

Villanova sophomore Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) also earned a spot on the Philadelphia Big 5 second team.

East Stroudsburg junior guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) has been named to the Basketball Times Division II All-America third team. As a sophomore, the PW grad was named to All-American honorable mention teams by Daktronics (sports information directors) and the Division II Bulletin. Grant led the Warriors (30-2) to the top season in program history this winter. The season concluded with a No. 2 national ranking in the final NABC Top 25 poll of the regular season. ESU set a program record with 30 wins, won its second PSAC championship in three years, played in the NCAA DII Tournament for the fourth time in five years and was the Atlantic Region runner-up after earning the region’s No. 1 seed. He was previously named first team All-Region by Daktronics and the NABC for the second straight season. Grant averaged 17.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals during his junior season. He set a school record with 88 three-pointers and scored 562 points, sixth most in school history and the mo

st since 1990. He was named to the Atlantic Regional All-Tournament team with 29 points in a 99-98 win over Livingstone, 23 in a 66-58 win over Gannon and 19 in an 89-82 loss to West Liberty in the regional final. Grant scored 20-plus points in 12 games this season.  He will enter his senior season with 1,487 career points, fourth in school history. Grant has led ESU in scoring in each of his first three seasons, averaging 17.6 points as both a sophomore and junior after scoring 13.9 per game as a freshman on the Warriors’ 2012 PSAC championship team. ESU is 72-21 in Grant’s three years, advancing to the NCAA Tournament each season and winning PSAC titles in 2012 and 2014. He is one of eight non-seniors among the 25 Division II players selected to All-America teams so far this season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Cabrini senior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) was recognized by DIII News recently, earning the publication’s honorable mention All-American recognition. Sandone, who captured CSAC Player of the Year honors, averaged a team-leading 14.5 points per game, which was tied for fourth in the CSAC. She also posted 3.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals per contest.  She connected on 1.8 three pointers per game and hit 83.3 percent from the free throw line, both among the best in the conference. Sandone was Cabrini’s top scorer in 12 of the team’s 29 games, including a career high 27 points in a 74-63 win over Kean College. The senior guard closed her career with 1,366 points, fifth on Cabrini’s all-time scoring list. She also has 163 career steals, sixth all-time.

Sophomore Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) had eight points and four rebounds in ninth-seeded St. Joe’s 67-57 win over eighth-seeded Georgia in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament last Sunday. It is just the seventh time in program history the Hawks advanced to the second round. The Hawks season came to an end Tuesday when they fell to top-seeded Connecticut 91-52.

Sophomore Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) had 15 points in Princeton’s 75-74 loss to Seton Hall in the second round of the WNIT last Sunday.

MEN’S LACROSSE
Freshman goaltender Austin Marshall (Neshaminy) was credited with five ground balls and recorded nine saves in No. 3 Cabrini’s 20-11 win over No. 10 Ithaca on Saturday. The win upped Marshall’s record to 4-0 between the pipes. In Cabrini’s 24-6 win over Immaculata on Wednesday, Marshall and teammate Hank Altschuler combined for eight saves.

Senior midfielder Shawn Caven (Pennsbury) scooped up 12 ground balls and also was 19-for-23 on face-offs in Ursinus College’s 13-8 loss to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday.

Junior face-off specialist Joe Palo (Hatboro-Horsham) won 17-of-23 face-offs and helped Eastern University to a 10-9 win over No. 12 York College on Wednesday. Tyler Gehlhaus (Hatboro-Horsham), who had an interception, was credited for his defensive efforts.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Senior Amy Cross (Upper Dublin) and sophomore Julie Cross (Upper Dublin) each scored a goal in No. 3 Syracuse’s 11-7 win over No. 7 Northwestern. The win snapped the Orange’s 11-game losing streak against the seven-time national champions.

Kelly Hamilton (Souderton) scored two goals in No. 6 Lock Haven’s 15-7 win over Seton Hill on Saturday. In Thursday’s 20-2 win over Lake Erie, Hamilton connected for the hat trick. Lindsay Walbrandt (Souderton) stood out for Lock Haven in the midfield, finishing with seven draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Aubrey Bossert (Wissahickon) scored a goal in Bloomsburg’s 13-5 win over Kutztown on Saturday. In Friday’s 16-12 win over Gannon, Ashley Bossert (Wissahickon) had two goals and two assists. Carly Bell (North Penn) also scored a goal. In Tuesday’s 16-7 win over Shippensburg, Aubrey Bossert scored a career-high five goals while Ashley Bossert added the hat trick. Bell led the defense with three caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Kaitlin Colbridge (North Penn) recorded three ground balls in La Salle’s 10-6 win over California on Monday.

Senior Amy Powell (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had four goals and two assists in Gwynedd Mercy’s 16-15 win over Centenary on Saturday. Goalie Megan Rose (Pennridge) tied a season high with nine saves. In Thursday’s 15-11 win over Penn State Abington, Powell had two goals and five ground balls, and Rose recorded eight saves.

Kelsy Gumbert (Pennsbury) scored a pair of goals in 10th-ranked West Chester’s 22-3 win over Kutztown on Tuesday. In Saturday’s 11-10 loss to Mercyhurst, Gumbert scored a single goal.

Hannah Vogel (Hatboro-Horsham) had three goals and three assists in Millersville’s 16-14 win in overtime on Tuesday. Goalie Kaitlin Crouthamel (Souderton) recorded nine saves. In Thursday’s 21-7 loss to No. 8 IUP, Crouthamel made a career-high 16 saves. In Friday’s 11-8 loss to Edinboro, Crouthamel recorded nine saves.

Madi Brunk (Cheltenham) scored a goal in Messiah College’s 11-8 loss to Lebanon Valley on Saturday.

Junior Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) led the defense with a career-high three caused turnovers in Holy Family University’s 20-11 loss to Philadelphia University on Thursday.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ally Frymoyer (Upper Merion) made five saves to earn the win in Shippensburg’s 17-16 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 16-7 loss to No. 15 Bloomsburg, Frymoyer made six saves.

Philadelphia University sophomore attack Liz Mower (Souderton) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women’s lacrosse player of the week for the week ending March 23. The CACC player of the week for the second straight week, Mower paced the Rams with 24 points (13 goals, 11 assists), 11 draw controls and four ground balls in three conference wins. She started the week by finding the back of the net for a career best seven goals in a 20-14 road win at Dominican (N.Y.). Three days later, Mower came through with the program’s first 10-point performance since 2011 (four goals, six assists) in a 21-15 home win over Holy Family. Mower capped off her week with two goals and three assists and five draw controls in a 23-4 win over Nyack. This season, Mower is 13th in Division II with 39 points and 16th with 2.43 assists per game, both CACC highs. She also leads the conference with 22 goals.
Mower had eight points in Philadelphia University’s 20-11 win over Holy Family on Friday, finishing with four goals and four assists, six draw controls and two ground balls.

Senior defender Lauren Purvis (Hatboro-Horsham) had three ground balls in No. 11/12 Penn State’s 13-9 loss to No. 4/5 Florida on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 21-8 win over Drexel, Purvis secured a career-high five caused turnovers.

ROWING
Sophomore Emily Grundman (Council Rock North) was part of Stanford’s Varsity Four that clocked a time of 7:27.83 and handed Virginia its first loss in any race this season, winning by 2.2 seconds. Later in the day, Grundman was part of Stanford’s Varsity Four that defeated Louisville with a time of 7:26.80. Louisville posted a time of 7:51.90.

MEN'S SOCCER

Freshman Dan Caya (Pennridge) was named to the Soccer 6 All-Rookie team in February. It is culmination of a remarkable two-year journey that began when the Pennridge standout signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Rutgers University. That spring he was diagnosed with primary spontaneous pneumothoraces, an abnormal accumulation of air between the lungs and chest cavity that can result in a collapsed lung. Caya underwent two surgeries and thought he had hung up his spikes for good, but after enrolling at La Salle in the fall of 2013, he opted to give soccer another try. SOFTBALL
Marywood freshman Brooke Labs (Pennridge) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for the week ending March 23. Labs hit .875 in two games, leading Marywood to a 2-0 CSAC start with 11-0 and 15-2 wins over Cedar Crest. Labs was 7-for-8 at the plate with three doubles and five RBIs over the two games. It is Labs’ first career weekly conference honor.

Stephanie Kulp (North Penn) earned a win in her first start and first appearance in the circle on the season, leading Millersville to a 13-0 win in game one of a twinbill on Thursday. The North Penn grad threw four innings of one-hit softball while striking out five and walking only one. Teammates Danielle DiFilippo (Hatboro-Horsham), Gabbie Berry (Norristown), Maria Spinosa (Hatboro-Horsham) and Heather Lutz (Hatboro-Horsham) each contributed a single. DiFilippo and Berry both had one RBI while Lutz scored a pair of runs. In Kutztown’s 8-2 win in game two, Lutz led the way with two hits in four at-bats – both doubles, one run scored and an RBI. Spinosa had a double and three RBIs while DiFilippo, Berry (RBI) and Kulp (RBI) each had one hit. In last Sunday’s 3-0 win over Lock Haven in game one of a twinbill, DiFilippo was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored while Berry was 2-for-2 with a double and RBI. In Millersville’s 4-2 win in game two, DiFilippo was 2-for-2 with a double and RBI.

Valerie Sadowl (Hatboro-Horsham) cracked a two-run homer to right center in the University of Connecticut’s 9-6 win over Memphis on Saturday in a game that was halted after six innings due to inclement weather. The round tripper was Sadowl’s fourth of the season and second of the day. In UConn’s 4-1 win over Memphis in game one of the twinbill, Sadowl hit her third home run of the season.

Sophomore Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) belted her fourth home run of the season to lead Lehigh to a 4-0 win over Lafayette in the opening game of a three-game series Saturday.

Ashley Alden (William Tennent) had a double, RBI and run scored in St. Joe’s 5-2 win over Penn on Monday.

Freshman centerfielder Ashleigh Sharp (Upper Dublin) delivered a two-out RBI double in Chestnut Hill’s 10-2 loss to Georgian Court on Friday.

Freshman Suzanne Swanicke (Pennsbury) was 1-for-3 with an RBI in La Salle’s 5-0 win over Penn on Friday. In last Sunday’s 8-1 win over St. Bonaventure in game one of a twinbill, junior first baseman Erica Reis (Central Bucks East) was 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs. She hit a two-run home run to center to break the game open. The round tripper was the first of her Explorer career. In La Salle’s 9-7 win in game two, freshman third baseman Christina Bascara (Pennsbury) was 3-for-7 with a double, home run and two RBIs. The home run was the first of her career.

Junior first baseman Ellen Goldstein (Central Bucks West) contributed an RBI single in Ursinus College’s 12-9 loss to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday.

Sophomore Lauren Klepchick (Central Bucks South) singled and scored a run in Rhode Island’s 2-1 win over Saint Louis on Saturday. In URI’s 5-0 loss to Providence Thursday, Klepchick singled to extend her hitting streak to five games. She is batting .533 (8-for-15) over the stretch. In URI’s split with UMass Lowell on Tuesday, Klepchick doubled and singled twice. She scored two runs and had one RBI.

Senior Rachael Alligood (Harry S Truman) closed out the game with a scoreless seventh in Holy Family’s 11-7 win over Goldey-Beacom on Thursday. The Truman grad fanned a pair. Alligood also earned the win in Holy Family’s 12-2 win in game two of the twinbill, going the distance in the six-inning contest. She allowed only two unearned runs and five hits in the win. Alligood struck out five on the way to her fourth win of the season.

Freshman Ally Horvath (Central Bucks South) had a single and run scored in Widener’s 9-2 win over Albright on Thursday. In Monday’s 9-7 win over Eastern, freshman Salina Allebach (Souderton) notched her first career win, allowing no runs and two hits over three innings with four strikeouts. Horvath singled and scored a run.

Erin Quense (Neshaminy) was 2-for-3 in West Chester’s 5-2 win over Kutztown in game one of a twinbill on Thursday. In West Chester’s 4-3 loss in game two, Jess Schuck (Council Rock South) contributed a sacrifice fly.

Sophomore catcher Mollie Burrell (Souderton) delivered a two-run single in the fourth inning of Philadelphia University’s 2-1 win over Wilmington on Friday. In Monday’s 8-3 win over Goldey-Beacom, Burrelll contributed a double

Kelly Hendrickson (William Tennent) was 2-for-3 at the plate and Tiffany Gower (North Penn) faced 19 batters, allowing only one run and four hits in Cairn University’s 9-1 win over PSU-Brandywine in game one of a twinbill sweep Tuesday. In Cairn’s 11-5 win, Hendrickson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Emily Wrenn (Hatboro-Horsham) earned the win in Penn State Abington’s 6-2 win over Arcadia on Thursday, throwing a complete game and allowing just six hits and two earned runs.  Bianca Monterosso (Abington) was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Danielle Jones (Harry S Truman) had a single and run scored.

MEN’S TENNIS
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Peter Brzezinski (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to the CSAC Tennis Honor Roll for the week ending March 23. For the week, Brzezinski went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles. Against Penn State Brandywine, he notched a 6-1, 6-0 win and followed that up with a 6-0, 6-0 win versus Keystone. He teamed up with Alexander Channick at number one doubles to notch an 8-3 win against Penn State Abington and an 8-2 win versus Keystone.

Senior Steven Ly (Bensalem) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles and was part of the number two doubles team that earned an 8-0 win in Penn State Abington’s 8-1 win over Bryn Athyn on Thursday. Albert Bahn (North Penn) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth singles.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
St Joe’s junior Matt Sutorius (Central Bucks West) finished sixth in the 400 hurdles at the Lafayette 8-Way Invitational on Saturday, posting a time of 57.40.

St. Joseph’s senior long sprinter Tyler Dougherty (Central Bucks South) was selected to the 2014 Atlantic 10 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Academic All-Conference team. To be nominated, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for their entire academic career. The teams were selected through voting conducted by the league’s Sports Information Directors. Dougherty was part of the distance medley relay that broke both the A-10 Indoor Championships record and the Rhode Island Mackal Field House facilities record on Feb. 22. Dougherty ran the 400m leg. An interdisciplinary health services major and six-time Atlantic 10 point scorer, Dougherty owned season-best times in the 200m (22.79), 300m (36.64) and 400m (50.21) and qualified for the 2014 IC4A Championships in the 4x4 and DMR. Dougherty ran the second leg of the sixth place DMR that took home three points for the Hawks at IC4As to cap a standout indoor season.

Matt Bree (Central Bucks West) was part of Shippensburg’s 4x800m relay team that finished fourth at the Fred Hardy Invitational at the University of Richmond on Saturday. He also posted an NCAA qualifying time in the 800 meter run (1:56.54).

Shippensburg junior Keith Parker-Washington (Upper Moreland) finished second in the 100m dash at the Lafayette 8-Way Meet on Saturday, posting a time of 11.64. Eric Conard (Souderton) finished eighth in the 110m hurdles (17.78).

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Monique Clemons (Wissahickon)
was part of Shippensburg’s 4x400m relay team that finished sixth at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond on Saturday.

Freshman Alexis Bell (Norristown) was part of East Stroudsburg’s 4x100m relay team that finished second at the Lafayette 8-Way Meet on Saturday, posting a time of 49.35. Kelley Ann Stuetz (Cheltenham) finished fourth in the high jump (4-11), sixth in the 100m hurdles (1:15.26) and eighth in the 400m hurdles (1:15.26).

Bloomsburg’s Alexis Rankin (Hatboro-Horsham) qualified for PSAC’s in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.13 at the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna University on Saturday.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Senior Austin Jacoby (Pennridge) had nine kills in No. 15 Stevenson’s 3-1 win over Marymount (Va.) on Saturday in his final home game Saturday. In four seasons, the 2014 senior class has won 90 games, the most wins over a four-year period in school history, and have led the team to three straight postseason appearances in the ECAC Division III South Championship, including titles in 2011 and 2013. The group also posted a school record 26 wins each year and led the program to its first- ever national ranking. In Friday’s 3-1 win over Eastern Mennonite, Jacoby finished with 10 kills, giving him 1,197 for his career.

Ryan Garven (Council Rock North) had six kills and seven digs in Cairn University’s 3-0 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday. Jeff Bishop (Souderton) had four kills and four blocks. In Friday’s 3-1 loss to Marymount, Bishop had 10 kills and four digs with only one error.
