Plymouth Whitemarsh 2, Upper Moreland 1
Despite returning seven of nine starters from a team that took its share of lumps a year ago, it was a newcomer to the PW lineup – sophomore second baseman Matt Cooper – who was the hero in Tuesday’s thriller over the potentate Bears.
A pitcher’s duel between Charlie Hooker of Upper Moreland and PW junior Johnny Fisher, who was removed by coach Chris Manero after allowing no hits through five innings (striking out nine while walking four), forced extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, Cooper doubled but was left stranded. In the ninth, redemption was found when the bases were loaded, via walks, and Cooper delivered a walk-off single into right field.
“They’re the top dogs,” said Manero of Upper Moreland. “We lost to them twice last year. It has probably been at least two or three years since we beat them.“Overall, we struggled last year. It was a retooling year. They wanted to be more competitive. This
game today was a good test for them to see that they can, in fact, be more competitive.”
Zach Metz, one of the Colonials who drew a walk in the ninth, earned the win in relief of Fisher, going the final 2 2/3 innings and striking out three.
Metz, Brett Highland (double) and Cooper (double) each collected a pair of hits to lead the Colonials.

The bat attack was also paced by Harrison Gruber and Christian Huckfeldt, who had two hits apiece. Huckfeldt, who threw a scoreless inning in relief, also drove in a pair of runs.

The day belonged to Cole Creighton who pitched four hitless innings, striking out three, and helped his own cause at the plate in a game shortened to five frames, via the mercy rule.
“It was nice to finally get outside,” said Neshaminy coach Chris Tenaglia. “We really didn’t know how we’d look, so it was nice to see us play well.
“Cole was comfortable and aggressive on the mound. He attacked the strike zone and pitched to contact, allowing our defense to play behind him.”
While Creighton was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI, he had plenty of help. Sean Udris scored three runs, Todd McDonald was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI while Bill Ritchey was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
Jordan Angjielo pitched the final frame for the Redskins.

Council Rock South 4, Abington 3
After falling into a 3-0 hole after one inning, the Golden Hawks rallied to improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in league play against the winless Ghosts.
“Abington is a team that can beat anybody on any given day,” said Council Rock South coach Ted Kirner. “We don’t feel like we are playing our best right now. These boys need to play. It was just our third time on the field.”
Kirner added that “everything felt out of whack,” as the game was played on the junior varsity field, due to the rains from the weekend.
Abington benefitted from a walk and hit batter as well as a two-run double by Nick Bein and RBI single by Matt McDonough to plate three runs in the first. Down, 3-1, the hosts awakened in the sixth inning. Pinch-hitter Dean Obarowski drove in a run, jumping on a first-pitch fastball and then scored on a Nathan Lewis single.
Greg Paprocki went six innings, striking out 11, for the win. Matt Walsh pitched the seventh for the save.

New season, new mission for the Falcons: Win the league games.
In 2013, they were 5-0 in non-league contests but 7-7 in the league, keeping them just out of the postseason. North Penn eked into the dance instead and went on to take the state crown.
The Falcons, after beginning with two non-league losses this year, made a statement Tuesday against the visiting Owls, building a 6-0 lead after three innings.
“It was nice to get a league win,” said coach Joe Pesci, whose team will have five games – including four in the league – in the next seven days, weather-permitting.
Leading the way were Brendan Campbell (3-for-4, 3 runs, a double, 1 RBI) and Justin Jacko (2-for-4, a run, a double, four RBI).
Brody McFadden threw 3 2/3 innings, allowing one hit, for the win. He was followed to the mound by Matt Phillips, Logan Buell and Jake Goldberg.

Brandon McIlwain drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the Indians eke past an opportunistic Panther team that knotted Tuesday’s taut affair up with a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning.
Aden Tully, who scored the winning run, was 3-for-4 in the winning cause. Matt Hand started for the Indians, lasting 5 1/3 innings and not allowing any earned runs. Chris Rowland came on in relief and took the win.
Ben Zeitz had two RBI for Tennent. Brandon Hefele was the losing pitcher.

A two-run double by Mike Kuypers highlighted a four-run outburst in the fourth inning that broke open a scoreless game through three frames and propelled the visiting Titans to an impressive road win against Pennridge Tuesday.
“Everything, run-wise, was pretty much thrown together,” said Titans’ skipper Mike Schaefer, whose team added a run in the fifth and sixth innings before capping off the win with three in the top of the seventh.
Kuypers then replaced starter Matt Radwonski on the mound to close out the victory.
“(Radwonski) did a great job against a good lineup,” added Schaefer, whose team will face defending state champion North Penn on Thursday.
“There is no break in this league,” said the coach, whose team posted 14 hits – as compared to four for Pennridge –and had a man on base in every inning.
The Titans received strong games at the plate from Alex Spector (2-for-5, run scored), Pat Fitzgerald (2-for-4, run scored), Mike Anastasia (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Jake Steinberg (2 hits, including a double). Steve Trachtenberg led the Titans with three hits, two runs scored and one RBI.

Also making important contributions for the Patriots were Pat Reilly (2-for-4, one run), Eric Chase (2-for-2, double, 3 RBIs) and Carter Usowski (double, run scored).
The Hatters’ Ryan Murphy took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year. He gave up seven runs, four of which were earned, in 1 1/3 innings pitched. Several Hatters – Erik Kleidon, Alex Kelidon, Kevin Barron and Eric Lane -- threw well in relief.
