WISSAHICKON 5, HATBORO-HORSHAM 4
In the standings, it will show up as simply a non-league win, but the Trojans’ win over a Hatter squad that is a perennial SOL power was undeniably big.
“Hatboro has always been a powerhouse in the Suburban One, but they’ve also been considered one of the top teams in the district for a long time,” Wissahickon coach Tom Walsh said. “Just for our kids and for our program, it was important that we got this win and that we begin to get some recognition for the hard work we’ve been putting in.
“We feel that we’re up there. I know a lot of teams say that, but we feel like we could actually do some damage this year. It was a good statement game for us, and it’s moving us in the right direction towards the middle of our season and getting towards the end of our year.”
The Trojans opened up a quick 2-0 lead. Luke Gomez scored off the opening face-off, and Alex Chiodo-Ortiz added a goal early in the first quarter. The Hatters cut that lead in half with a goal later in the period, and neither team scored in the second quarter, sending the Trojans into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
“The second quarter was just a defensive battle,” Walsh said. “Both teams just worked hard.
“We made some adjustments at halftime, and we came out the third quarter and scored two goals and went up 4-1. Before the quarter ended, we had a defensive breakdown, and they found someone on the crease and scored. As time ran out, they scored again on a sloppy transition play on our part.”
The Trojans took a 4-3 lead into the fourth quarter and upped that lead to 5-3 late in the quarter before the Hatters scored in the game’s closing seconds.
“They had a lot of momentum, but we talked about it between quarters that we’ve been in control of the game and we just needed to keep grinding it out,” Walsh said. “I thought we controlled the game pretty well, but they were right in there the whole time. Both defenses played solid, but we just grinded it out and came out on top.”
Chiodo-Ortiz and Nate Degroat both scored a pair of goals to lead the Trojans. Gomez, Brooks Melvin and Zach Scannapieco each added single goals.
For the Hatters, Chris Hammel had a pair of goals while Connor McPoyle and Brendan Mulligan each added single goals.
“Our defense played really well,” Walsh said. “We had a good scout on them. We knew what their tendencies were, and our defense played solid – had some good takeaways and really did their best to shut them down in any six v six play.”
Walsh lauded the efforts of sophomore defenseman Kyle Wolf, junior goalie Jack Myers (10 saves) and senior defensive midfielder Drew Sacks.
Hatter goalie Marc Poust had 11 saves.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 16, PENNRIDGE 7
Central Bucks East defeated Pennridge in SOL play tonight by a score of 16-7 at Pennridge. This was the sixth road game in a row for the Patriots as they move to 7-2 overall (5-0 in SOL play). Leading the scoring for CB East was Matt Schmidt with seven goals. Matt Heim had four goals and two assists. Matt Milici had one goal and five assists and Matt Vetter, David Gressgott Cameron Price, and Alex Philipp each added one goal. Andrew Del Bracco won 10 of 14 face-offs. Sean McGovern had three saves and allowed four goals, Ryan Schupp had four saves and allowed three for East. Up next for Patriots is Avon Grove in a non-league match on Saturday for the seventh road game in a row.

Cam Trick and Cordell Armstrong connected for the hat trick to lead the Indians.Trick also had an assist. Cory Anlauf added two goals and two assists while Greg Gibbs, Trent Breneman and Jonny Rice each added one goal. Breneman also had an assist as did teammates Nick Anderson and Anthony Potts.

SOUDERTON 14, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 9
Natalie Bulgier scored five goals to lead the Indians to the important league win. Chessie Rahmer, Amber Lambeth, Nikki Palmer and Brittany Roynan each contributed two goals and one assist. Tori Bulgier added a single goal to close out the scoring.
“Tonight was our first league game against one of the teams from last year’s (conference),” coach Kelly Kelly said. “We talked going into the game that any game in our league is up for grabs.
“We have some tough competition, and CB South was tough tonight. We started out strong and then fell off a little in the middle of the first half. CB South is a strong team, and they capitalized on the opportunities we presented.”
For the Titans, who trailed 9-5 at halftime, Devon Dietzel led a balanced attack with three goals and one assist. Emily Cliggett and Courtney Dietzel each added two goals. Krysta Reading and Tori Wigand both contributed single goals.
“South didn’t really lose a lot of players from last season,” Kelly said. “You can see that they really have grown and matured as a team.
“We readjusted our game plan during halftime, and the girls worked hard to maintain their lead. Our defense came up big and (goalie) Kelly Williams had some key saves. The offense started to click and play as a team toward the end of the second half. We held on tonight, but it was definitely a high intensity game that we will be taking a lot of learning experiences from.”
Williams was credited with seven saves in goal for the Indians. South’s Erin Putnam had six saves.”

UPPER DUBLIN 12, SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 7
The Flying Cardinals opened league play with a win over the Spartans, taking a 7-2 lead into halftime and then playing the Spartans to a draw in the second half.
Junior Julie Cross had a hand in eight goals, contributing six goals and two assists. Taylor Di’Ginto added four goals and three assists in another big performance. Anna Trentini and Dom Greene-Coleman both added one goal.
For the Spartans, Riley Greenleaf, Caroline Pape and Colleen Canavan each had two goals. Canavan also had an assist while Pape had two draw controls. Juli Cardamone had one goal and two caused turnovers while Marley Berger and Bailey Krewson each chipped in one assist. Molly Fitzpatrick led the Spartans’ defense with three caused turnovers. Marie Brockman had two caused turnovers.
Upper Dublin goalie Sarah Gallagher turned away seven shots while her counterpart, Springfield’s Margarethe Leis, had six saves.

Emily Schulze (six goals, two assists), Kaitlin Suzuki (four goals, one assist) and Julianna Hill (three goals, two assists) all had big nights offensively for the Maidens. Jen Delongis added two goals while Chloe Novak, Sydney Lear, Michelle Lassen and Julia Keffer each had one goal. Leah Brown contributed an assist. Sophomore goalie Michelle Dyck had nine saves.
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 16, PENNRIDGE 14
Freshman Bryn Boylan scored six goals and also added an assist, and teammate Jacq Fitzgerald added five goals and an assist to lead the Bucks to the win over the pesky Lady Rams. Sarah Gebre had two goals, and Amanda Gundlach, Meghan Tillger and Elle Ueland each had one. Ueland also had a pair of assists. Elena Romesburg had an assist.
For the Rams, Jess Csaszar and Jackie Stevens led the way with four goals each. Allison Fugate added a pair. Scoring single goals were Samantha Ryder, Emily Price, Maddie Maher and Jordan Rimmer. Ryder also had a game-high seven draw controls.
The Bucks opened the game with a goal off the draw by Boylan and went up 2-0 before the Rams used goals by Rimmer and Ryder to knot the score. West reeled off four straight goals to go on top 6-2. The Lady Rams still trailed 14-9 at the intermission but refused to go away.
Pennridge coach Brieann Wolfe was pleased with her team's effort against a West squad that had fallen to Hatboro-Horsham in overtime 24 hours earlier.
"Jackie Stevens had an outstanding midfield game, taking the ball from defense down to the goal," Wolfe said. "Jess Csaszar played a beautiful offensive game, and Maddie Maher also had an outstanding game in the midfield face guarding and shutting down West's best play, number 29 (Romesburg). The second half was even played more beautifully by the Rams, only letting two goals go in. The Rams even brought the game to a tie for a little bit (on a goal by Emily Price at the 2:42 mark), and it was a close battle in the last two minutes of the game, being only one goal down."
Molly Naylor was credited with nine saves in goal for West while Pennridge goalie Carley Wingate had six saves.
“After a big game against Hatboro, (we) came out flat,” said West coach Tara Schmucker. “I am disappointed with the mentality of the team tonight.
“They did not give Pennridge the respect they deserved. We were outplayed, and the girls are not executing and translating what we are doing in practice to improve our weaknesses.
“With little improvement on draws, uncontested goals and careless turnovers, it was not the team that showed up against Hatboro. I give credit to Pennridge for never giving up and using their speed. They definitely looked like they wanted it more.”
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 11, UPPER MORELAND 3
Kirsten Monte led the Colonials with four goals. Maddie Berman added a pair, and Monica Dresnin had one goal and two assists. Rita Trainer had one goal and one assist. Both Aurora Mills and Sam Ward had one goal.
