ABINGTON 10, SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 5
With four freshmen on the varsity team, Abington knows that it’s a young team. The Lady Ghosts also realize that they might not be having the same level of success if not for those underclassmen.
Freshman Sam McGee is probably the most notable of the younger players on the Abington roster, and she added to her already impressive season, a four-goal effort in a 10-5 win over visiting Springfield in an SOL meeting on Monday afternoon.
McGee was one of five Abington players to score, helping the Lady Ghosts to improve their record to 5-3 overall on the young season.
“It’s awesome right now having our freshmen perform so well,” Abington coach Mary Kate Lomady said. “They are all contributing, and while we do have a young team, it’s exciting and we have a lot to learn. I’m really excited about our freshman class, and for Sam to come out and be our leading scorer like that was great. It’s not her first time either. She’s done that before and been pretty consistent.”
McGee is joined by fellow freshman Maddie Sjoholm, who also had an excellent day on Monday, collecting five groundballs to lead Abington.
The Lady Ghosts received two goals apiece from Jeannie Van Buren and Mikki Raymond while going up by four goals before the half. Rachel Morris and Casey McCallister also added a goal apiece for Abington.
“It was probably one of the better if not the best game we’ve played all season long,” said Lomady, who is in her first year as head coach of Abington. “We really came together as a team and we were transitioning the ball well. It’s something we’ve been working on and focusing on in practice. We’re getting our attackers to support our midfielders and we were really able to perform in that area today, so that was exciting.”
Sabrina Barrett stopped five shots in net for Abington to earn the win, while Molly Bauer and Margarethe Leis shared time in net for Springfield, stopping six and five shots, respectively.
Offensively, the Lady Spartans were led by Marley Berger’s two goals. Bailey Krewson, Riley Greenleaf and Marie Brockman each added goals for Springfield, with Krewson also grabbing three groundballs.
NORTH PENN 11, PENNRIDGE 8
The Rams came out of the gate strong, connecting on the first two goals of the game. Sam Ryder scored less than five minutes in, and Jess Csaszar made it 2-0 at the 16:02 mark. The Maidens were unfazed, reeling off five straight goals to go on top 5-2 only to watch the Rams score with three seconds remaining to make it a 5-3 game. The first half featured five yellow cards – three for the Maidens and two for the Rams - as tensions ran high.
A goal by Csaszar off the opening draw made it a 5-4 game seven seconds into the second half, and once again the Maidens had an answer – scoring four consecutive goals to go on top 9-4 at the 14:01 mark. A goal by Allison Fugate at the 12:58 mark made it a 9-5 game. The Maidens upped their lead to 11-5 before the Rams closed out the game with three consecutive goals for the 11-8 final.
For the Maidens, Ashley Durham contributed the hat trick, and Kaitlin Suzuki and Michelle Lassen both had two goals. Closing out the scoring were Chloe Novak, Sydney Lear, Emily Schulze and Julia Keffer with one goal each.
Csaszar led the Rams’ attack with three goals and one assist. Ryder and Madison Dachowski each added two goals, and Fugate had one goal. Ryder also had a team-high four draw controls while Devan Rimmer added three. Fugate, Jen Rodzewich, Jackie Stevens and Haley Transue each had one draw control.
Pennridge goalie Carley Wingate was credited with 12 saves while North Penn's Michelle Dyck had 11 saves.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 16, NESHAMINY 12
The Patriots trailed 7-6 at halftime but rallied for the win in SOL National Conference action. Maggie Stella had a big day for the Patriots, contributing four goals and two assists. Michaela Daley also had four goals, and Lauren Burrell had three goals and one assist.
Betty Wesney had two goals and one assist, and Julia Norek added two goals while Katelyn Stout had one goal to close out the scoring.
East goalie Alana Rivas faced 20 shots and turned away eight shots.

UPPER MORELAND 17, NORRISTOWN 7
Freshman Sydney Bachmayer had a big day for the Golden Bears, contributing five goals and two assists. Delaney Smith had a hand in six goals with three goals and three assists. Allison Felicetti had one goal and three assists. Adding two goals each were Veronica Baez, Maura O’Leary and Samara Santry. Ashley Duff and Sarah Reice each had one goal.
Upper Moreland goalie Kait Taylor had eight saves in goal in a winning effort.
HATBORO-HORSHAM 19, CHELTENHAM 5
The defending Continental Conference champions are already making their presence felt in the American Conference, upping their league record to 2-0 with Monday’s win. Rachel Rausa led the Hatters with four goals and three assists. Sydney Rausa had two goals and three assists, and Katie McKay had four goals. Gwyn Acker, Colby Eldridge and Casey Swezey each had two goals. Gabby Acker, Annette DeSipio and Jane Henry each had one goal. Carly Daley added an assist.
UPPER DUBLIN 13, UPPER MERION 6
Julie Cross turned in a stellar outing in Monday’s SOL win, contributing six goals and four assists. Taylor D’Ginto added four goals and one assist, and Rachel DiFrangia added a pair of goals. Anna Trentini contributed a single goal to close out the scoring for the Flying Cardinals, who led 7-1 at halftime and never looked back.
For the Vikings, Fran Lindelow led the way with a hat trick. Liz Botto had a pair of goals, and Julia Reinhert had one goal while Jackie Schauble chipped in an assist.
