NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Council Rock South 7, Abington 6
Another day, another thriller for the Golden Hawks.

Playing on the road Thursday, they dug out of an early 5-0 hole and took their first lead of the game in the top of the seventh inning and held on, improving to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in league.
Their only two losses have come in extra innings.
“This team is going to kill me,” jested CR South coach Ted Kirner. “I can’t handle it. But, we are winning games. We have been in every single game. We just keep grinding them out, man.”
With a shortage of pitching, junior Nick Fabiano, known more for his batting prowess, made his first appearance on the hill and Abington quickly pounced with three runs in the first inning and two more in the second.
Fabiano was replaced by shortstop Will Faccenda in the fourth inning, and he kept the Ghosts at bay, earning the win.
Trailing, 6-5, after six innings, Dan Ng connected for a one-out single. Tyler Anderson tripled him home and then scored the eventual winning run on a wild pitch.
Anderson, the leadoff hitter, finished the day 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a crucial RBI-triple. Greg Paprocki was 2-for-4 with a RBI and Jake Nevin was 2-for-5.
Abington catcher Nick Bein remained hot, stroking two hits.

Truman 4, Neshaminy 3
The Tigers snapped a five-game losing skid by avenging a 10-run loss to the rival Redskins in the league opener.
After building a 4-0 lead after two frames, starting pitcher Aaron Wolf was able to go the distance and nail down the win. He also helped himself at the plate with two hits and one RBI.
“We needed that one,” said Truman coach Jeff Vitale. “It’s been a while. They10-runned us, then we won the next one and then we lost five straight. I told the guys that we are in the second half of the season, and that we have a clean slate, and they responded.”
Timmy Hild and Wolf singled in runs in the first inning. Two more runs were added in the second on a sacrifice fly from Joey Schiotis and a ground out by Matt Olson.
Wolf, who has both of Truman’s wins, allowed four hits and walked three while striking out four.
“This was the best game we played all year,” said Vitale. “I knew going into the season that we had a young team. I just want to see improvement.”
Tim Hild (2-for-3, RBI, one run) and Tom Watts (2-for-2) also had multiple hits for the Tigers, who held an 11-4 advantage in hits.
Eric Klimowicz had two RBI for Neshaminy.

CONTINENTAL CONFERENCE

Hatboro-Horsham 2, Central Bucks East 1
The Hatters (8-3 overall, 6-2 SOL Continental) moved into sole possession of first place, a half game up on North Penn, which played a non-league game, and a game up on CB East after outlasting the Patriots in extra innings Thursday.
The Hatters got a stalwart performance from junior Kevin Barron, as he held one of the area's best offenses to an unearned run on four hits while striking out nine in seven innings.
Eric Lane, who earned his second save of the week after pitching a scoreless eighth inning, also provided some offense for the Hatters with a solo home run that put the Hatters up, 1-0, in the fifth inning.
It looked as if that one run would hold up as the Hatters carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh and Barron retired the first two Patriots before Pat Reilly hit a fly ball into center field that, according to coach Pete Moore, fell into shallow right field thanks to the heavy win. Reilly hustled to second base and then scored on Carter Usowski’s wind-blown single.
Barron led off the top of the extra frame with a single into center field.  Pinch runner Charlie Obrecht advanced to second when Cole Davis laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Alex Kleidon singled to center field and advanced to second on the throw home.  Obrecht moved up to third on the play.  After Justin Gregorio was intentionally walked, Erik Kleidon hit a sac fly to center to score Obrecht and give the Hatters a 2-1 lead.
After a single and a double play to open the bottom of the inning, the Patriots had two more men reach base, one via an error and another by a single.  With Pitt-signee David Yanni at the plate, the Patriots’ base runners tried to advance on a wild pitch, but the ball bounced back to catcher Eric Thomas who gunned down what would have been the tying run at third to end the game.
During the Hatters six-game winning streak, the team has now allowed just three runs (one earned) over a span of 49 innings pitched.
The Patriots are 5-3 in the league (6-4 overall).
