Truman senior Bobby Hillowns the school record in the long jump and will take his talents to the Suburban One League National Conference league championships as the favorite in the event.  Hill soared 23 feet - 8 inches to write his name in the Tiger record book.

“My goal this weekend is to take first place in the long jump and hopefully break the league record,” said Hill who will walk on next year at Lock Haven University.  “I have already qualified for districts in the long jump, and I am looking forward to competing at that level.

“I really like the long jump because you get a chance to meet other people while you are competing,” added Hill.  “It is competition – but it is always friendly competition.”

“What can I say – Bobby has a lot of jumping ability,” said Truman head coach Michael McHugh.  “He is a four-year varsity guy – works really hard – and has a lot of natural talent.

“Bobby is also one of the most popular kids in school,” added McHugh.  “He is a combination of a great kid and a great athlete.”

Hill – who also competes in the 100 meters – is the anchor leg on the district qualifying Tiger 4 x 100 relay.  Hill joins fellow seniors Devon Young and Gianni Adamo and junior Brandon Lance on the team.

“Devon, Gianni, and I all ran together last year, and we have worked real hard bringing Brandon into the group,” said Hill.  “I love the relays.  You have to work as a team – get down the steps – get down the handoffs – if you want to be good.”

And Hill has been good this year – record setting good.

Central Bucks East junior Grace Becker enters the Suburban One League Continental Conference league championships with a single thought in her mind.

“I can’t control what my competitors do,” said Becker who will compete in no less than five events in the conference championships.  “I know that I have worked extremely hard – and all I can do is my best.”

Becker enters the league championships with personal bests in the high jump [5-foot, 6-inches]; triple jump [35-feet, 11 inches]; long jump [17-feet, 3 inches]; 300-meter hurdles [45.8]; and 100-meter hurdles [14.7].  All times have qualified her for district competition.

“My coach feels that I should concentrate on three of those events at districts,” said Becker.  “But I would really like to compete in at least four.  If I were to let one event out it, would be the long jump.”

“Grace has transformed herself into a stellar athlete,” said Central Bucks East coach Sam Losorelli.  “She has a great deal of determination and focus.  And she welcomes competition.  She knows what she has to do to win.

“Grace is just a junior, but she is a great team leader,” added Losorelli.  “She has the respect of all her teammates, and she is like having a mini-coach around.”

An elite coach-athlete that excels both on and off the field.
