Central Bucks South Women’s 4 x 800 Meter Relay

The Central Bucks South 4 x 800 meter relay has recorded the second fastest time in the country and the fastest time in the statewith a remarkable time of 9:02.68.  The Titans could well best the PIAA Class AAA District One record of 9:04.65 set by Strath Haven in 2012.

“Really, I tell the girls it is about having fun and doing your best,” said Central Bucks South head coach Rachel Beck. “Go out and compete with no stress – even though the girls do put pressure on themselves.

“This is a relay team that has been together from the middle of the winter season on, and they work extremely well together,” added Beck.  “We are smooth on the exchanges – they have made that connection many, many times.”

The ‘Fab Four’ – in order – are senior Kaitlyn Poiesz, junior Amber Stratz, senior Alexa Kwapinski, and junior Brianna Stratz.

“Kaitlyn has been the lead-off since her freshman year and is very aggressive,” said Beck.  “Amber understands the race very well and knows what she needs to do to help us win.

“Alexa has also been on this relay since her freshman year and is also aggressive,” added Beck.  “And Brianna does whatever it takes for us to win in the end.  Everyone trusts her 100 percent to do the right thing.

“District One is loaded and we will be tested,” continued Beck in reference to Great Valley, Strath Haven, Central Bucks West, North Penn, and Pennsbury.  “When we get to states we will look around and see a lot of familiar faces.”

Stay tuned.

Cheltenham Panthers Men’s 4 x 100 Meter Relay

The Cheltenham 4 x 100 men’s relay has run the fastest time in the state with a blazing mark of 41.66 and is the favorite to win the upcoming PIAA Class AAA District One title.  The Panthers could also set a new district record in the event set in 1996 by Glen Mills which recorded a time of 41.67.

“There are 18 events in a track meet, and the most exciting has to be the 4 x 100,” said Cheltenham head coach Dr. Robert Beale, who has coached the Panthers for the last 32 years. “It would be sweet to be able to steal districts in the race and then have a good shot at states.

“The kids expect to win every time they race, and I expect another great performance,” added Beale.  “This week at districts and next week at states is the moment they have been waiting for.  All the training of body and mind – all the time and energy – comes down to these last couple of races.”

The talented foursome for the Panthers that will run at districts – in order - include senior Jaylen Coriano-Nix, junior Saahir Bertha, junior Oliver Liburd, and senior Christian Brissett.  Issac Lewis – who could run the third leg at states – had a 400-meter race just prior to the 4 x 100 final.

“There will be some excellent competition at districts,” said Beale in reference to Wissahickon, Council Rock North, Academy Park, and North Penn.  “It takes an exceptional amount of work to run a clean race (handoffs), and these kids have done that work.  You are only as strong as your weakest link – and we all expect good things.”
