Reasons for choosing Stanford: “Ever since eighth grade, it was always my dream to play at Stanford because they have the most NCAA titles. They’re the best mix of sports and academics tennis-wise.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate tennis? “I started thinking about it in 
eighth grade. I had a really good eighth grade year. I got up to number eight in the nation, and that sparked everything. I made a big improvement, and that’s when I realized it was definitely possible for me.”
Coach Paul Wysocki says: “What makes David exceptional is that he’s extremely good at all aspects of the game. He’s truly an all-around player. While I’ve seen a few players over a 20-year period with bigger serves or a few players with bigger backhands or a few players with perhaps a little bit more control or a few players might have been a little bit quicker about the court, but David is in probably the top 2-3 percent in all categories. He can play the net beautifully, he can play defensively, and he has a big forehand. Basically, he is exceptionally well rounded, and it has helped David that he has a remarkable grasp of court strategy and a wonderful demeanor for the pressures of an individual game like tennis. He maintains his poise exceptionally well.
“You combine a player whose physical tools and abilities are so exceptionally well rounded with a fine tactician and someone with superb temperament when it comes to patience and being able to think his way through trouble spots – basically the result is the best high school player I’ve ever coached. It’s not unusual for an elite tennis player to be a little bit egotistical, a little bit self-centered. David was the consummate team player, and I think that’s going to help him a great deal in his experiences at Stanford. He truly is interested in the welfare of the team. He truly took delight in the team’s success, and he was very, very helpful to me when it came to helping out with the lesser experienced players. He was just a fantastic asset, and he’s going to be tremendously missed by me and everyone who is part of our tennis program.”
