Strengths/Question Marks:“We have an outstanding group of girls who have really come together and developed a good team chemistry early in the season. They are working very hard and receive constructive criticism very well. We do have eight varsity letter winners returning, and many of them are now stepping up into full-time starting roles on the field (and some in new positions), so our experience is a bit lacking, but will continue to improve each game. We are also looking for a number of players to fill the offensive void left by Jen Harchut.”
Outlook:“The team features a good balance of returning varsity experience, coupled with a lot of athleticism and enthusiasm from the younger girls in the program, providing a positive outlook for the upcoming season. Bucci, Christian, Schwabenland and Vincent, along with juniors Sarah Blatt, Kristen Jones and Jillian Kenny and sophomore Marlee Siegel offer a wide range of talent and knowledge of the game and will be the role models on the field for many of our newcomers. The girls have been working hard throughout the entire summer, and their efforts are certainly recognized by the huge improvements that have been made thus far. The competition in the league will be tough as always, but the Lady Cards will be looking to give every opponent their best game and are hopeful to stay atop the SOL American Conference. With the new addition of power rankings in field hockey, it is difficult to determine the outlook for postseason play just yet, but if the girls continue to stay competitive in the conference, along with a strong non-league schedule (WC Henderson, North Penn, Souderton and Methacton), the possibility of returning to the District I playoffs is a distinct possibility. The girls will begin this challenge when they open up their season on Friday, August 29, against West Chester Henderson at 10 AM.”
GAMES TO WATCH: Every game in the SOL American Conference is an important match-up this year, but our most meaningful game of the season is our 6th annual Corners for Cancer game against Methacton HS on Saturday, 10/11/14 at 3 PM. In the past 5 years, the UDHS field hockey program has raised over $24,000.00 for cancer awareness, and we hope to continue making a positive impact.
