BASEBALL
Georgetown senior Matt Hollenbeck (Hatboro-Horsham) was living in New York City and working as an intern at Goldman Sachs when he received the opportunity to play in the prestigious Cape League. He joined the Falmouth Commodores on June 26, and the left handed pitcher boasted a 1.03 ERA in early August. MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington junior Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) finished eighth at the Albright University’s Lights Out Invitational on Friday. He set a school record on the 6-kilometer course with a time of 19:29. Senior Nicholas Volpe (William Tennent) completed the course in 21 minutes flat, a personal record. He finished in 24th place. Newcomer Billy Donovan (Upper Moreland) completed his first intercollegiate rate with a 35th place race in 22:07 to place his name fourth in the school’s Top 10 rankings. The men’s squad finished third out of five teams at the invitational.
Ursinus junior David Slade (Abington) posted a time of 21:46.24 at the Lehigh Invitational on Friday.
La Salle’s Francis Ferruzzi (Upper Dublin) finished 30th with a time of 27:18.0 and teammate Chris Trimble (North Penn) posted a time of 28:42.0 at the Duquesne Duals on Saturday. As a team, La Salle finished the day with a 4-2-1 record with wins over Buffalo, George Mason, St. Vincent’s and Carnegie Mellon while falling to Duquesne and St. Joseph’s and tying Youngstown State.
Senior Jason Caporale (Neshaminy) was Widener’s top finisher at the Delaware Valley Invitational on Saturday, closing second with a time of 27:39.56.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Elizabethtown freshman Kelsey Brady (Council Rock South) finished seventh with a time of 16:49.6 in her college debut on Saturday in a race on campus pitting the cross country team against cross country alumni.
Louise Huuki (Central Bucks East) posted a time of 22:11.65 for the Temple women’s cross country team in its first action of the season on Friday at the Covered Bridge Open hosted by Appalachian State. Teammate Megan Schneider (Hatboro-Horsham) finished with a time of 22:31.31. The Owls finished seventh overall.
Junior Tori Gerlach (Pennridge) is a member of a Penn State cross country team that is ranked 29th according to the USTFCCCA preseason poll. Last year the Nittany Lions posted a 25th-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Division One Cross Country Championships.
FIELD HOCKEY
Taylor Prichett (William Tennent) scored her first goal of the season in Delaware Valley’s 3-2 win in overtime over St. Mary’s College on Friday.
Lehigh sophomore forward Marissa Glatt (Central Bucks East) was named a preseason All-League honoree. Glatt was the only freshman named a first team All-Patriot League honoree last season, leading the team and finishing second in the league with 12 goals. She added one assist for 25 points in an impressive rookie campaign. Glatt was one of just two sophomores named preseason All-League. After going pointless in her collegiate debut last year, Glatt scored a goal in each of her next six games. She scored 41 percent of Lehigh’s goals a season ago as a catalyst of the offense.
Junior forward Kayla Kenney (Central Bucks South) scored a goal with under four minutes to play in the first half of Villanova’s 2-1 loss in overtime to Sacred Heart on Friday.
Sophomore goalie Kelly Schlupp (Council Rock South) made two saves to earn the win in The College of 
New Jersey’s 7-2 win over Stevens Institute of Technology in its season opener Friday.
Junior Lauren Becker (Wissahickon) scored a goal in No. 12 Stanford's 4-1 win over Liberty on Sunday. In Friday's 4-0 win over No. 18 Delaware, Becker connected for a pair of goals.
MEN’S GOLF
Temple senior Matt Teesdale (Hatboro-Horsham) shot a 69 in the second round of the 114th U.S. Amateur to finish at even-par for the two days and advanced to the match play round. Teesdale birdied the 12th hole and the sixth hole at the Atlanta Athletic Club’s 7,381-yard, par 36-36-72 Riverside Course. He parred the other 16 holes for his two-under total. Teesdale was tied for 32nd overall. In match play, Teesdale lost to Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans, 6 & 5. Teesdale was making his first appearance in the tournament. Schniederjans is the world’s top-ranked amateur and the runner-up at the 2014 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship.
FOOTBALL
California University of Pennsylvania senior Jack Abercrombie (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to the 2014 D2Football.com Preseason All-America team as a first team offensive lineman. The 6-2, 290-pound senior also earned a first team spot on the 2014 D2 Preseason All-American Team on Tony Soltfi.com, compiled by college football analyst Josh Buchanan. Last year, Abercrombie was named Daktronics and Don Hansen Second Team All-Region and also earned a spot on the All-PSAC West first team. He was voted Capital One Academic All-District. The Hatboro-Horsham alum started all 11 games at center and received PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2013-14 school year. He was a member of the Cal U AD Honor Roll in the spring semester.
University of Delaware senior J.D. Dzurko (North Penn) will anchor the offensive line at right guard. The 6-3, 305-pound senior is a three-year starter for the Blue Hens. Wide receiver Brandon Shippen (Norristown), a converted defensive back, caught his first collegiate pass on fourth-and-five and took it 35 yards to the end zone for his first career touchdown in Temple’s 37-7 upset of Vanderbilt on Thursday. It was Shippen’s first collegiate start.

Junior Mike Comacho (Harry S Truman) scored in the 88th minute in Cabrini’s 4-0 win over Penn State Brandywine on Saturday.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Afflerbach (Souderton), who had six shutouts his rookie campaign as the Dragons won a second straight Colonial Athletic Association title, stopped five shots in Drexel’s 1-0 overtime victory over Temple on Friday. Four of those saves came in the first half as the Owls peppered Drexel’s net. The victory avenged a 2-0 loss to the Owls last season.
Senior goalkeeper Dan Saint-Pol (Pennridge) stopped three shots in Penn State Abington’s 1-0 loss to Swarthmore on Saturday.
Kyle MacDonald (Pennsbury) delivered a pass that helped set up a goal in No. 15 Penn State’s 3-0 win over St. John’s on Sunday night at Jeffrey Field in front of 2,721 fans.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Freshman Megan Schafer (Neshaminy) scored a pair of goals - including her first collegiate goal - in Penn State’s 3-1 win over Connecticut on Friday. It is the first time a Penn State freshman has scored twice in a match since 2010. The Nittany Lions are 3-0.
Kaceyanne Cerankowski (Neshaminy) led all scorers with three goals in Elizabethtown’s 9-0 win over Keystone on Saturday.
Sophomore midfielder Kayla Nolan (Abington) had the lone two shots for her team in Penn State Abington’s 2-0 loss to Ursinus on Friday night. In Friday’s 4-0 rout of Immaculata, Nolan connected for a goal that put the Nittany Lions on top 2-0 and then tallied an insurance goal in the 88th minute to seal the victory. Nolan finished the game with two goals and a game high five shots on net.
Megan Gerhart (North Penn) recorded five saves in Virginia Wesleyan’s 2-0 loss to No. 11 Emory on Saturday. In Friday’s 2-0 win over DeSales, Gerhart recorded three saves in the shutout. Zoe Traficante (Central Bucks West) had an impressive rookie debut for the offense.
Jeannie Jasinski (Pennridge) and Alexis Haug (Central Bucks West) each scored a goal in Ursinus College’s 2-0 win over Penn State Abington on Saturday. Haug scored on the rebound of a goalie save of a shot by sophomore forward Erin Farrell (Neshaminy) off the hands of the keeper. Jasinski scored on a long cross from the left corner by Haug and headed the ball into the goal.
Temple senior Alyssa Kirk (Neshaminy) was named the American Athletic Conference Defender of the Week after her performance last weekend in wins over Binghamton and Mount St. Mary’s. Kirk anchored a defense that gave up only five shots on goal in a pair of shutout wins. The defender also scored the game-winning goal against Mount St. Mary’s on a corner kick and assisted on another goal.
Erin Lafferty (Upper Dublin) registered an assist in Temple’s 1-0 win over Saint Joseph’s on Friday. With the win, the Owls improved to 3-0.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Holy Family senior Devyn Ingram (Upper Merion) was the recipient of the Division II ADA Academic 
Achievement Award. The program recognizes athletes who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale and who have completed a minimum of two years of college level work. Last year, Ingram started all 30 matches as the team’s primary libero and had a career season with a team best 441 digs (3.90 per set). She finished seventh in the CACC in total digs. She will enter her senior season 88 digs shy of becoming the sixth player in program history to reach 1,000 career digs. She recorded double-digit digs in 22 of her first 23 matches played, including a career high 32 at Nyack College. She was named to the CACC All-Academic team for the first time in her career.
Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) had double-digit kills in both of Eastern’s wins over Washington College (25-16, 25-8, 25-22) and Salve Regina (25-18, 25-18, 25-9) on Saturday in the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic. She hit .462 for the day with 22 kills and just four errors on 39 attacks. She also had 11 blocks and represented Eastern on the All-Tournament team. In Friday’s sweep of Marietta College, Elechco led the Eagles with 11 kills on 22 attempts with one error.
Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) had 10 kills in Franklin & Marshall’s 3-1 win over Elizabethtown on Saturday.
Ursinus freshman outside hitter Taylor McCartney (Pennsbury) had 10 kills on 37 total attacks in the Bears’ 3-1 win over Marymount (Va.) on Saturday at the 12th Annual Greyhound Premiere. The Bears, who fell in their first match Friday to Ramapo, battled back to capture the Silver Bracket.
