Central Bucks West 1, Quakertown 0 (OT)
It wasn't easy, but Central Bucks West figured out a way to win its first conference game of the season. And it happened in exciting fashion as the Bucks scored with less than one minute remaining in the first overtime period to escape with the shutout victory over the visiting Panthers.
Junior Brandon Morris scored the game's lone goal, thanks to an assist from senior captain Jason Douple to help CB West (2-0-1, 1-0-0) to the victory.
"It's an important one,” CB West coach Stefan Szygiel said. “It's our first league game, and I think the boys feel like it was not where it needed to be.
"They felt that they created enough chances to win the game in regulation, but nonetheless, it's a league win and it's the first league win and we'll take it.
CB West has high hopes for Morris, a junior who is now getting his first real varsity action.
"He has 100 percent of our goals," Szygiel said. "He's a guy who came up in the last game of the last season as a sophomore and scored a goal in 30 seconds. He's a guy we are excited about, especially being a junior, and I think he's going to have a strong season."
CB West used three different goalkeepers to combine on the shutout. Seniors Daniel Meritt and Will Krempa spent time in net, as did sophomore Jon Vicente.
Despite the win, Szygiel believes his team had plenty of opportunities to win without needing the extra period.
"We were generating chances all game, and I thought we were getting good touches behind their back line, but we weren't finishing," he said. "We created a ton of chances, with this one (the game-winner) in particular.
“Jason Douple served the ball over the back and Brandon Morris, who was at the right wing, came across the line as the ball traveled and he got it in with a one-touch finish."
Making like difficult for the Bucks was Quakertown's almost entirely sophomore defensive line, which - according to coach Kevin Woulfe - was able to eliminate almost all quality shots throughout the game.
"Sophomore keeper Steven Hippauf cut angles down and aggressively denied scoring opportunities time after time," the Panthers' coach said.
Quakertown fell to 0-3 overall (0-1 SOL) following the tough loss.

Souderton 3, Hatboro-Horsham 0
John O’Keefe (Nate Verso assist) scored a goal late in the opening half to send the Indians into the intermission with a 1-0 lead. With 10 minutes remaining in the contest, O’Keefe found the net for his second goal, this time using an assist from Justin Molyneaux, and for good measure, David McDonough added an insurance goal -unassisted - with 5:20 remaining. Souderton improved to 1-1 overall (1-0 SOL) on the young season, while the Hatters fell to 0-2 (0-1).

North Penn 2 Central Bucks South 0
Kevin McKenna assisted on the game's first goal and then scored North Penn's second goal as the Knights got past host Central Bucks South in a conference-opening match on Wednesday afternoon.
Nick Miller scored the game's first goal in the 19th minute, and then it was McKenna taking a pass from Brad Deckel and adding an insurance tally in the 28th minute. Jordan Katz stayed strong in net for North Penn to earn the win.
The Knights improved to 1-1 overall (1-0 SOL), while CB South fell to 1-1 (0-1).

American Conference
Plymouth Whitemarsh 5, Upper Moreland 0
PW won its conference opener in shutout fashion.Austin Betterly led the way for the Colonials, scoring two goals. Cameron Johnson, Mark Melvin and Skyler Goldstein each scored single goals for PW, while Johnson, Dylan Reina and Dominic Wlodarczyk each added assists. Shane Smith stopped two shots in net to earn the win.
Wissahickon 3, Springfield 0
Wissahickon handled Springfield easily in the first conference game for both teams, shutting out the Spartans.
The Trojans, who led 1-0 at the intermission, received goals from Alex Escude (18th minute), Cole Kropnick (64th) and Alex Tappen (67th) en route to their second overall win of the year. Kropnick, Henry Zhong and Alec Schwartz all drew assists for the Trojans (2-0, 1-0 SOL).
Wissahickon outshot Springfield 8-6. It was the first loss of the season for the Spartans, who are now 2-1 overall. (0-1).

Upper Dublin 2, Norristown 1 (OT)
The Eagles broke a scoreless tie with 10 minutes remaining on a goal by senior Gavin Leary. Upper Dublin rallied to score the equalizer five minutes later and then won in overtime over host Norristown. The Cardinals’ game winner was an own goal by the Eagles (0-1, 0-1).
Norristown coach Jared Ellis credited freshman goalkeeper Will Baltrus for playing well in the losing effort. Upper Dublin improves to 1-0-1 overall on the young season.

Upper Merion 2, Cheltenham 1
Upper Merion received goals from Angelo Misseri and Alan Castillo in a one-goal win over host the Panthers in a season-opening match at Cheltenham.Brendan Magdamo was credited with both assists for the Vikings. The Panthers dropped to 0-3 overall on the season with the loss.
National Conference
Abington 3, Pennsbury 2
Despite he wasn’t in the starting 11, junior David Pohle entered the game and made more than just a small difference against Pennsbury.
Going up against one of its top rivals, Abington received a huge spark off the bench from Pohle, who scored once in the first half and then tallied the game-winner in the second half as the Ghosts defeated the Falcons in a conference-opener at Abington High School.
Abington (2-0-0, 1-0-0) also received a goal from Matt Tracy, while receiving an excellent performance out of goalkeeper Tim Seydel en route to the win.
"I think two good teams played a very physical type of game, and Pennsbury has a very good team," Abington coach Randy Garber said. "It could've gone either way. Five goals was a lot considering everything."
After Pennsbury scored first, Tracy tied things up two minutes later. After Pennsbury (0-1-1, 0-1-0) again went on top, Pohle tied things up just before halftime.
In the second half, both teams went back and forth, hitting several posts while collecting a combined six yellow cards (and two red cards), but it was Pohle who eventually made the difference and scored the game-winner.
"It was definitely a physical type of game, but that's the type of game you're going to get when Abington plays a team like Pensbury," Garber said.
Regarding Pohle, Garber said he gave his team the spark they needed at the right time.
"David came in off the bench yesterday on two different occasions, and on each occasion, scored goals for us," Garber said. "He was at the right place at the right time. He's not in the final 11, but with the type of hot day it was, both coaches got multiple players in because of the conditions."
William Tennent 2, Council Rock North 0
J.R. McCabe turned a pass from Mike Albers into a goal to propel the Panthers to a 1-0 lead that stood until the intermission. Dan Miller (Steve Testa assist) added an insurance goal as William Tennent got past host Council Rock North.
Joe Lees and Brendan Hanratty combined to make eight saves for Tennent in the shutout.

Neshaminy 2, Bensalem 0
Kenny Herrmann (James McCourt assist) scored the game winner in the 24th minute in Wednesday’s battle between the National Conference’s top two teams last year. Zach Albarran (Eric Schaffer assist) added an insurance goal early in the second half. Neshaminy improved to 2-0 overall on the season and 1-0 in conference play while the Owls fell to 0-2 overall on the season.

In a lightning-shortened game that was called in the 45th minute, the Bucks received the only goal they would need when junior Brandon Morris latched onto a service from fellow junior Jack Tilley in the 33rd minute. Senior keeper Daniel Merritt tallied one save for the Bucks (1-0-1).
SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 1, BISHOP McDEVITT
Corey Cottone turned an Ethan Steinberg assist into a goal that proved to be the game winner in Tuesday’s non-league contest. The win upped the Spartans early season record to 2-0.
