On September 18, 2014 the Wissahickon varsity water polo team defeated Springfield 13-6. Wissahickon came out of the gate strong outscoring Springfield by 3-1 in the first period. Both teams slowed down in period two and Wiss lead by a score of the 3-1 at the half. The halftime break seemed to re-energize Wiss, and the boys came out shooting strong. Wiss scored 6 goals to Springfield’s 2 ending the third period with a 5 goal lead. Wiss added four more in the final period to “seal the deal”. Wissahickon looked solid on both offense and defense. Jake Berring lead the scoring with 5 goals; Danny Knoll scored 3: Jeff Beyer 2; Steven McFarland, David McFarland, and Ben Tumulo added one goal each. On defense, Ben Tate had 14 saves including an amazing save on a bullet back-handed shot by Springfield’s number 3. The Trojan defense racked up 22 steals in this game and there were some pretty nifty passes. Good team work boys!
