Natalie Mitchell – Providence University (Field Hockey)
Major: Undecided, possibly Math
Final list of colleges: Providence, Lafayette, University of Massachusetts, Amherst
Reasons for choosing Providence: “I liked the concept that it was a D-1 school, and it was small because I like the small campus better. I liked the whole atmosphere and how well the team connected and got along.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate field hockey? “I thought about it my freshman year, but I didn’t actually start playing club and getting into the whole college recruitment until my junior year.
“I didn’t really know about club until my sophomore year, but it was too late. Once I started playing club, we went to a Disney Showcase, and that really got me excited to play.”
Coach Rachel Shuster says: “Natalie was one of my captains, and from the very beginning, she definitely took the initiative to step up. We had a new team this year. We started out with seven girls, and she stepped up to help. We went back to the basics.
“She’s a phenomenal player. She can play any position, and she can give direction to any of them because she knows all the positions. She definitely stands out on the field. She’s our star.”
About Natalie:
Favorite food: “It’s pizza, and I think everybody knows that. All my friends know it. They all say every time they eat pizza it reminds them of me.” (Mitchell’s favorite pizza is Paradise Pizza in Audubon.)
Favorite movie: The Blind Side
Favorite music: Everything from John Mayer to Beyonce
