Wissahickon boys and girls swimming had a strong showing at PIAA District One Championships.
Point scorers (top 16) for the girls were Kelly Wild, 10th in the 50 free, and Amanda Zlotnikoff, 7th in the 100 backstroke which ultimately qualified her for the state championships.
The Wissahickon boys finished the week with a fantastic performance. The boys finished third in the overall team scoring behind perennial rival Upper Dublin. This is the highest scoring performance for a Wissahickon boys team in recent memory!
Senior Danny Knoll lead the Trojan boys with a second place finish in the 50 free and finishing fourth in the 100 free, qualifying for the state championships in both events. Danny set a new team record in the 50 with a time of 21.12.
Knoll also anchored the Wissahickon 200 free relay along with Doug Boehme, Jake Berring and Jeff Beyer which took third place, securing a spot at states as well. Junior Doug Boehme finished 4th in the 200 free and 5th in the 500 free reclaiming his team record (4:42.84) in the 500 which Jeff Beyer had broken just two heats earlier. Boehme’s 4th and 5th place finishes guaranteed him automatic berths at the state championship meet. Junior Jeff Beyer took 10th in the 200 free and 6th in the 500, joining Boehme on the podium for that event. The boys 400 free relay (Berring, Boehme, David McFarland, and Knoll) placed 9th despite dropping over two seconds from their seed time. Junior Jake Berring placed 12 in the 100 Breaststroke. Junior David McFarland racked up a personal best in the 400 relay and had a solid swim in the 100 free. Senior Stephen McFarland finished his Trojan swimming career with a nice performance in the 500 free.
