Dan Shane – Mercer County Community College (Baseball)
Major: Liberal Arts/Business
Final list of colleges: Mercer, Shippensburg, West Chester, Gwynedd Mercy, Chestnut Hill
Reasons for choosing Mercer: “Definitely financial-wise, it’s a lot cheaper than most of the schools I was looking at, and once they offered the full ride, I couldn’t turn it down. The coach right off the bat seemed like a good guy. The things he was saying were similar to the way we run our practices at Pennridge. He loved the winning aspect – that’s all he was about, and he said, ‘You’ll probably going to be in the best shape you’ll ever be here.’ ”
What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level? “It’s always been in my mind to play college baseball. I want to play baseball as long as I can. I have the opportunity, and some kids don’t, and I don’t take that for granted.”
Coach Tom Nuneviller says: “Dan is just a fierce competitor. He’s going to battle you to the end, he’s going to give you everything he has every time he steps out on the field, and he thinks he can beat you every time he steps out there. He’s a fighter, and he’s going to battle.
“He played center field for us. He has very good reads in the outfield, he’s very fast, and he has a nice arm as well. It’s a good combination.”
