Joe Rochelle – Moravian College (Golf)
Major: Accounting
Final list of colleges: Moravian, DeSales, Delaware Valley, Arcadia
Reasons for choosing Moravian: “I wanted to stay pretty close to home just so I could come home when I wanted to, but I also wanted to live at college so it would be an easy (commute). I liked the campus a lot, they play at a really nice golf course, and their team is really good for D-3. I just liked everything about the school – coaches, players, everything.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in golf at the collegiate level? “I started thinking about it after I made districts my sophomore year – I made it to districts three years in a row.”
Coach Nick Hood says: “The best thing about Joe – the first time I met him, he told me on the phone, ‘I’ll do anything I can to help you, bud.’ He called me bud before we ever met, so I kind of knew his personality before I met him. The two greatest things about Joe were a) his work ethic. He was our best golfer, but he was our hardest worker too. He never let us down in that department. He always worked hard. And b) his enthusiasm. He’s just excited to play golf. I’ve personally played golf with him in monsoons where I would not have been out there unless it was for him. (In February of last year), he texted me, ‘I heard there’s no snow in New Jersey right now. Do you want to go down and see if there’s no snow on the course?’ That’s the kind of guy he is because golf takes a lot of time, and he always put the work in. He was just a leader for our underclassmen. We’re going to miss his sense of humor but his work ethic above everything else. I’m looking forward to getting beat by him for a long time to come, and Moravian is lucky to have him.”
