Michaela Finneyfrock – St. Joseph’s University (Soccer)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges: St. Joe’s, Richmond, Loyola, Fairfield
Reasons for choosing St. Joe’s: “St. Joe’s was the first campus I visited. I really loved the campus – it felt right when I stepped on it. I visited other campuses just to be sure. Stepping on other campuses – I just knew nothing compared to St. Joe’s. It just felt right being there.”
What was the progression that led you to playing soccer at the collegiate level? “I started thinking about it around my freshman year – my club team is very serious about all of that, so we had to start thinking ahead. A lot of us knew we wanted to take it to the next level.”
Coach Wendell Beres says: “Michaela was our quarterback, and she has left very large shoes to fill. She was very technical and very good in tight spaces. She had a natural ability to score goals and create chances for teammates. In addition to her skill set, Michaela prided herself in having the highest work rate of anyone on the field. This attitude was contagious amongst her teammates and I believe was the number one reason our program had such a successful season last year. The one thing people may not know is what a warrior Michaela is. You would never know if she was hurt because she played through any injury. In fact, one time I had to have another player trick her into leaving practice early and take her to the doctor because she was so sick.
“She was a pure pleasure to coach and St Joe's is very likely to be getting not only a player of Michaela's caliber but also a person of he character as well.”
