Zach Szumigala – Chestnut Hill College (Baseball)

Major:  Business

Final list of colleges:  Chestnut Hill, Rider

Reasons for choosing Chestnut Hill:  “It just came together. I was at a practice, and it was a great experience. I liked all the guys there and the coaching staff.”

What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level?  “In ninth grade when I made the varsity team, I really thought I could progress to be able to play collegiate baseball. My junior season playing in the summer showcases I started getting contacted by coaches.”

Coach Joe Pesci says:  “You can talk about his hitting, his fielding, his arm strength, his speed – they’re all the top on the team, and they were very important to our team, but it’s the old cliché about baseball IQ that really made him stand out amongst players on our team and players in the league. He did so much for us at the shortstop position. He really propelled us to the level we (reached). His success over the past two years has helped us big time.
“Zach is a very intense player, and he learned to become a leader and a captain. He leads by his play, but he also started to lead the rest of the guys in his knowledge of the game.”
