Jenn DeLongis – Lafayette College (Field Hockey)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges: Lafayette, Hofstra
Reasons for choosing Lafayette: “I chose Lafayette because of the feeling I get when I go there. The coach is a great person, and it has great academics, so that ultimately made my decision.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level? “I decided I wanted to play field hockey in college my sophomore year. I hadn’t fully decided that I liked field hockey or lacrosse yet, but I was leaning towards field hockey. The summer before my junior year – that’s when I buckled down and was like, ‘I want to play in college.’ I e-mailed all my schools and started the recruiting process seriously.”
Coach Shannon McCracken says: “Jenn has chosen Lafayette, and I’m really excited for her because I think it’s going to be a great fit. Jenn is a four-year varsity letter winner for field hockey, and she also is a letter winner for lacrosse as well. This past season she was team captain and received second team All-Continental Conference. She played forward and midfield for us over the last four years, and this year she stepped in as our center midfielder, which is very much a leadership role on the field. You also have to be in good shape, so in the offseason, she really focuses on her fitness. She did a great job in the offseason preparing for the midfield this year.
“On the field, she is an intelligent player, and she’s very knowledgeable. When we had any timeouts, she always had something to add. She was an extension of the coaching staff with her knowledge on the field. Jenn also was a verbal leader for us on a young team, and she played a huge role as a midfielder in our offensive plays and also defensively as well. She has really great vision of the field and really great stick work. She plays a lot in the offseason for her club team, so that absolutely benefits us as a high school team, and it also helps her prepare to play at Lafayette. It was a pleasure coaching her the last four years.”
