Hannah Fireman – Gettysburg College (Golf)

Major:  Undecided

Final list of colleges:  Gettysburg, Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson, Dennison

Reasons for choosing Gettysburg:  “Initially, I thought I wanted to play Division One. We just saw Gettysburg on the way back from a few visits in Virginia, and I just liked it because it was still a pretty rigorous golf program for Division III. At the same time, I would still get to exercise other opportunities at the school and still be a part of whatever else I might be interested in. I’m really excited.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in golf at the collegiate level?  “I don’t think I was really thinking about it freshman year. I played for the high school freshman year, but I never really was thinking about college. My sophomore and junior years I started to hear about college, and I heard my friends talking about it.  It kind of came into my mind, and I said – why wouldn’t I do it, I’ve been doing it for so long.”

Coach Glenn Kaiser says:  “Hannah comes from a golf family. Her father is an outstanding player and has been a multiple champ at Talamore, so she had that opportunity to play as a young person, and that’s really where it starts. If you start young, especially with golf, good things usually happen, but I don’t think she got serious until ninth grade and was on the co-ed team. It was her goal to have a girls’ team, and she really was the one who spearheaded the program.
“This is a great opportunity for her to go play Division III. She practiced. She wasn’t just out playing – she was at the range, she was chipping, she was putting. She took the game very seriously, and then she started playing in tournaments and things that are important.”
