Let The Individual Post-Season Begin…
By Glenn Kaiser
It’s official, the dual meet season is over, and the real season is just getting started this weekend. There will be seven League Championships wrestled this weekend, starting tonight, and three of these championships will be right here in the Suburban One League: the American Conference at Norristown, Continental at Pennridge, and the National at Pennsbury.
The SOL will send 12 wrestlers on to Districts next weekend. The American Conference’s top four qualifiers will travel to Oxford for the D1 West Championships, joining the Ches-Mont League, and the Continental and National Conferences will send their top four each to Quakertown for the D1 East war, which includes the top three wrestlers from the Del Val League.
Most surely, many SOL wrestlers will march their way through to the Southeast Regional tournament and on their way to Hershey, PA. Top guns in their weight classes, who plan to be on the podium at the Giant Center March 12, 2016, located right here in our backyards of the Suburban One League include returning Medalists and State Qualifiers:
113: Aiden Burke (CRN) PIAA 6th, Matt Parker (Pennridge) 5th, & Antonio Martoccio (Pennsbury) State Qualifier (SQ).
120: Ben Radner (CRS) unfortunately will not be competing.
126: Kordell Rush (Pennridge) SQ/4th in 2014 & Sofaine Bensmail (NP) SQ
132: Zack Trampe (CRS) 2015 PIAA Runner-up at 126 lbs.
138: Riley Palmer (CRS) 2014 7th Place finish & Colin Devlin (U. Dublin) SQ
145: Dustin Stone (Truman) SQ
152: Dylan Schwartz (CRS) SQ & Colin Shannon (NP) SQ
160: Josh Stillings (Pennridge) SQ
170: Josh Shalinsky (CRN) SQ
182: Kyle Gentile (Pennridge) 5th
195: Joe Doyle (CRS) SQ
220: Gavin Caroff (Quakertown) SQ
285: Bruce Graeber (Neshaminy) 5th
Others who look to live the dream of wrestling in Chocolate Town, USA in the PIAA AAA Individual Championships include:
106: Colton Jordan (Nesh), Marco DiBattista (P-W), Justin Altrogge (Norristown), & Tyler Williams (Souderton)
113: Jason Amy (Upper Moreland) & Ray Calderaio (CBS)
120: Brandon Bach (Soud) Gunnar Fuss (Truman), Jackson Erb (Nesh), & Matt Amy (U. Moreland)

285: Matt Chapman (H-H), Quincy Williams (P-W), John Anderson (CRS), & Nick Cooper (Bensalem)
Several weight classes will see some very good wrestling throughout the SOL and district tournaments to set up the SE Regional setting. Several deep weight classes that are intriguing include 106, 113, 120, 132, 145, 195, & 285. With over half of the weight classes loaded for bear, the first two weekends of postseason wrestling should be exciting as leagues come together. But it will be at the SE Region at Souderton Area H.S. that will see the cream rise to the top, as only four of the 12 qualifiers will advance. This is down one spot from a year ago, as the SE Region had five state qualifiers in 2015.
Predictions for team titles at all three SOL Championships are: American- Plymouth-Whitmarsh edges Norristown; Continental-Pennridge runs away with it, however North Penn and Quakertown, along with Souderton will be a tight group for second; National-Clear front runner Council Rock South will be pushed by sister school CR North, Neshaminy, and Truman wrestlers.
