Tatiana Pleasant – Widener University (Basketball)

Major:  Undecided

Final list of colleges:  Widener, Franklin & Marshall, Eastern, Ursinus, Brandeis

Reasons for choosing Widener:  “Widener offers a comforting campus atmosphere, a wide selection of majors and minors and a strong basketball program that I look forward to contributing to.”

What was the progression that led you to playing basketball at the collegiate level?  “I started thinking about playing in college the summer after my sophomore year. That was the year I really began to take the sport seriously, so I trained to get stronger and played a lot of AAU. The recruiting process really took off during the summer of my junior year. I played in a number of national showcase tournaments, which helped me to be noticed by many universities.”

Coach Leah Kim:  “Tatiana played power forward this year. She’s extremely young even though she’s graduating and moving on and has a very dedicated work ethic. With me coming in and taking over the program, a lot of adjustments needed to be made, and to have someone like that show up and do what was asked regardless with no attitude, no heat was honestly a joy to walk into. I wish I had her another year. It would make my transition easier.
“The girl has a very, very impressive God-given ability to rebound. She’s extremely strong for her size, so she gets underestimated a lot, but she has a very good nose to get to the ball.
“She has such an upside, and that’s what is so exciting about her being able to go on. She started playing later in life, and I know she will continue to work. Her upside could be tremendous.”
