The SOL excelled on day one of the District One AAA meet.
At Friday’s first day of competition at the District One Class AAA meet, Michael Jensen was the man of the hour. The Upper Dublin senior set the pool and district record with his winning time of 1:36.63 in the 200 freestyle at La Salle University’s Kirk Natatorium. The previous district record was 1:38.85 set on Feb. 26, 2015 by Jensen while the pool record was 1:36.66 set in 1989 by Jim Wells of Peddie School.
He also led the Cardinals to victory in the 200 freestyle relay. His leadoff split of 20.19 eclipsed the meet record of 20.44 by Shane Ryan of Haverford, set on March 1, 2012. Devon Polak, Scott Luttmann and Alex Flynn rounded out the relay, which posted a time of 1:25.08.
“We started tapering for states just two days ago so I’m not feeling good yet,” Jensen said. “I knew I was swimming well though.
“Now the 100 (freestyle) should be fun. That was definitely a big goal for me so I want to go really fast there.”
Upper Dublin’s Odgen Leyens, Wyatt Amdor, Polak and Flynn took second in the 200 medley relay (1:34.42).
Leyens was third in the 200 freestyle (1:41.77), Polak was fourth in the 200 individual medley (1:56.01), Ryan Hartmann was sixth in the 200 individual medley (1:58.12) and Amdor was sixth in the 100 butterfly (51.63).
For the Upper Dublin girls, Jenna Johns, Abbie Amdor, Rebecca Pendleton and Megan Paris were second in the 200 medley relay (1:45.46).
Johns was third in the 100 butterfly (55.37).
For North Penn, Megan Zartman, Erin O’Neill, Claudia Thamm and Leah Brown won the 200 medley relay in a meet record time of 1:44.24, lowering the standard of 1:44.65 set on Feb. 26, 2015, by Pennridge’s Anna Beno, Brittany Weiss, Morgan Scott and Hannah Zurmuhl.
Kailyn Evans, O’Neill, Aimee Baur and Brown took second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.81).
Evans was fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:04.74), Thamm was fifth in both the 200 individual medley (2:04.79) and 100 butterfly (56.03), Brown was fifth in the 50 freestyle (24.12) and Baur was seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:53.27).
For the North Penn boys, Corey Smith, Harrison Friel, Aaron Jordan and David Grove placed third in the 200 medley relay (1:36.23).
Smith was third in the 200 individual medley (1:54.95), Aiden Daly was sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:42.34), Friel was seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:43.40).
The Knights’ Friel, Daly, Grove and Ryan Yocum finished sixth in the 200 medley relay (1:28.01).
Souderton’s boys started off the meet on a good note, winning the 200 medley relay in 1:34.34. Storm Krader, Ryan Witoslawski, Spencer Nice and Christian Musterait were the winning foursome.
Musterait came back to win the 50 freestyle in 20.72.
Brendon Loux was eighth in the 100 butterfly (52.27) for the Indians.
Morgan Scott of Pennridge won the girls 200 individual medley (1:50.61).
She anchored the Rams to a victory in the 200 freestyle relay. Their winning time of 1:33.90 eclipsed the meet record of 1:34.63 set on Feb. 26, 2015 by North Penn’s Kailyn Evans, Aimee Baur, Leah Brown and Olivia DiStefano.
Hannah Zurmuhl, Anna Beno and Brittany Weiss rounded out the relay for Pennridge.
“We really wanted to win the 200 free and beat our rival, North Penn,” Scott said. “We beat their record, which was an extra bonus. We’re really happy about our time.
“We’re looking forward to going to states and crushing it there and hopefully everything will fall into place for us.
“In the beginning of the meet I felt a little off. My splits were off in the 200 free, but during the 50 part of my relay I felt really good. I was really excited because I knew we were going to win.”
Zurmuhl was second in the 50 freestyle (23.63) and Weiss was second in the 100 butterfly (54.22) for the Rams.
Hatboro-Horsham’s Stuart Sumner, John Scully, Andy Thomas and Tim McPoyle took second in the boys 200 freestyle relay (1:26.71) and Thomas was fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:42.14).
For the Hatboro girls, Barbara Schmele, Katie Moore, Grace Riemenschneider and Colleen Claggett took seventh in the 200 medley relay (1:48.82).
Brad Johnson of Central Bucks West was second in the boys 50 freestyle (21.38) while Dale Johnson was seventh (21.91).
CB West also earned a state berth in the 200 freestyle when Dale Johnson, Evan Washington, Brad Johnson and Peter Baltes finished fifth (1:27.39).
David Kneiss of Neshaminy was second in the boys 200 freestyle with a school record time of 1:41.53, breaking his own record of 1:43.09.
Collin Villari of Central Bucks East took second in the boys200 individual medley (1:52.17).
William Tennent’s Mark Preedy earned his first trip to states in an individual event with his fifth place finish in the boys 50 freestyle (21.75).
Wissahickon’s Doug Boehme finished fourth in the boys 200 freestyle (1:41.84).
For the Wissahickon girls, Kelly Wild tied for eighth in the 50 freestyle with Olivia Miller of Unionville. Both girls posted times of 24.45.
