Leah Simmons – Canisius College (Volleyball)
Major: Communications/Film & Media
Final list of colleges: Canisius, St. Francis-Brooklyn, Youngstown
Reasons for choosing Canisius: “I really liked the team and the whole atmosphere of the school.”
What was the progression that led you to playing volleyball at the collegiate level? “I played for the junior high team, and in ninth grade, I started going to volleyball clinics because I knew I wanted to play for the high school team, and I knew it would be a step up. In 10th grade, I tried out for the East Coast Power Volleyball club team, and when I made the team, I just fell in love with the sport even more because everyone was so good. They pushed me to work really hard, and I just think it’s really fun.”
Coach Jea Lee says: “Leah is a true athlete, she has a competitive attitude and a willingness to learn. She has an understanding of the sport. The first year – she was just a volleyball player, but then she started playing club volleyball, and her career basically took off. Her whole entire family put in the time and effort, and now she’s one of the top players in our conference, probably the top player in the conference. Leah made first team all-district.”
