Nicolette Ray – Bloomsburg University (Softball)

Major:  Early Elementary Education/Special Education

Final list of colleges:  Bloomsburg, Villanova, UNC-Greensboro, East Stroudsburg

Reasons for choosing Bloomsburg:  “It’s the perfect location. The coaches are great, the softball team is great, and they have both of my majors.”

What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level?  “My parents helped me decide. I knew it was a lot of work, but they helped me get through it. Coach White also helped me. I Just loved the sport, so I just wanted to keep playing.”

Coach Ellie White says:  “What sets Nicolette apart is her work ethic and how hard she works. Nicolette wants to be the best, and she really goes hard all the time. She just wants to perfect her craft. The other day at practice she asked me if she could go pitch and work on her screwball. She was up there practicing I’d say an hour and 15 minutes, and she came down drenched in sweat. My catcher was soaked. She said, ‘I got it to where I like it.’ That’s the kind of kid she is. She just wants to perfect everything she does.
“Nicolette can do it all. This is my 22nd season, and I’ve had some really good hitters go through my program. I’ve had the Allendorfer kids (four sisters), Erika Lee, Kelly Gregorio and Jess Morak. I’ve had some great hitters, but she is by far the best one to go through here, and she’s humble about it. She’s just a humble leader. She just wants to play. That’s all she wants to do. She’ll tell me that she likes horses more than she likes softball, but you would never know it when she’s between the lines. She just wants to play. It doesn’t matter if we’re in phys ed class or if it’s a practice or it’s a game. She’s a big-time competitor. I think she’ll be a great fit at Bloomsburg, and I think she’s going to do awesome things in college.”
