On Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, Pennridge seniors Brody and Cayce Giblin were recognized for committing to continue their soccer careers at Bloomsburg University. To view photos of the event, please visit the Photo Gallery.
“I think Bloomsburg is getting a steal in the two of them coming there,” coach Pete Valimont said. “They’re going to be amazing – not just teammates but contributors. They’re going to have to work. It’s going to be tough, but together they’re going to be great. They’re really going to help that program.”
Brody Giblin – Bloomsburg University (Soccer)
Major: Secondary Education/Math
Final list of colleges: Bloomsburg, Temple, Penn State
Reasons for choosing Bloomsburg: “Bloomsburg was the main soccer school. The first time there was for a soccer camp, and when I went for the actual visit, I loved the entire campus. I loved the facilities and everything, and the coaches are amazing. That really helped the decision.”
What was the progression that led you to playing soccer at the collegiate level? “Ever since my freshman year, I just had the urge because I thought about playing in college, and something sparked. Ever since then, I always wanted to work harder, train harder, study harder – anything that would help me get an advantage playing in college.”
“Last year (Cayce and I) talked about colleges we were considering, and we both brought up the same schools. We both started to talk to Bloomsburg for soccer, and I actually started to think – ‘We might be going to the same college.’”
Coach Pete Valimont says: “Brody is deceiving. I don’t think he got the amount of credit he should have from an all-league perspective. If you were to compare all the other goalies to Brody, I would take Brody over them. He saved three out of four penalty kicks in the first round of district playoffs. I don’t think anybody else in the district did that, which helped us move on. He’s going to have to work really hard – I heard they have a couple of goalies up there already, but I think if he’s patient and he keeps focused, he’ll have a great college career. Their coach is lucking out having both of them. We’re going to miss them tremendously, but I know they’re going to do really well.”

Cayce Giblin – Bloomsburg University (Soccer)
Major: Computer Programming
Final list of colleges: Bloomsburg, Temple, Penn State, King’s College
Reasons for choosing Bloomsburg: “It was in a small town, and I like this weather - the four seasons. (The campus) was just really nice, and the coaching and the team – it felt like I fit there.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I always knew I wanted to play since I was young, whether it was D-3, D-2 or D-1. Last year we went to camp at Bloomsburg, and (after that), we had a follow up with them. That’s where it really started.”
Was it a goal to play with your brother? “Everyone has asked us that. It was always – ‘It would be nice because we work well together,’ but it wasn’t like we went into this thinking we would play together. It’s just ended up that way.”
Coach Pete Valimont says: “Cayce was one of best center mids this year. He was a captain of a team that went to the second round of districts. His junior year we had two wins and this year we had 12. He was a huge part of that. He was a real big offensive threat, very skilled, and his size – he’s ready for college now.”
