Philip Stolfi – George Mason University (Wrestling)

Major:  Engineering

Reasons for choosing George Mason:  “It’s an amazing engineering school, and the wrestling team, the coaches and atmosphere in general were just amazing. I picked the school where I would have the best opportunities on the wrestling team. Also, it’s very close to (Washington) D.C., so the internships there are amazing as well.”

Favorite wrestling memory:  “Being a state qualifier and competing at a level I never thought I’d be able to compete at.”

Coach Tristan Boyd says:  “What made him good was the fact that he set a goal, and he went out and just attacked it. He was always extremely coachable. After every single match, whether he won or whether he lost, the first thing he did is he walked over and said, ‘What can I do to get better, coach?’ It wasn’t to save face – he did it because he actually wanted to get better. He worked hard, and he did the right things. He commented earlier that his prized moment was making the state tournament because he didn’t know if he would ever get there. I wasn’t surprised at all that he got there based on his work ethic and his dedication to the sport. He never put himself above anybody else. He was a great leader in the wrestling room and worked well with everyone else and realized he always had work to do.”
