Devon Polak – Bloomsburg University (Swimming)
Major: Professional Geology
Final list of colleges: Bloomsburg, West Chester
Reasons for choosing Bloomsburg: “I just felt more at home at Bloomsburg. There’s just something about it. I loved West Chester, but there’s something more that really kind of set Bloomsburg apart.”
What was the progression that led you to swimming at the collegiate level? “I knew I wanted to since my sophomore year. I just enjoy swimming that much, and I don’t want to stop. I figure if I can take it into college – why not? I love it, so I’m just going to keep doing it.”
Coach Geoff Scheuer says: “Devon was a passionate athlete – very emotional. When that worked for him, he did amazing things. It’s been very interesting to see him grow over the years as a person. I’m very excited about all the success he had this year. It was really great to see things pay off for him.”
About Devon:
Favorite food: Cheesesteak
Favorite movie: Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Favorite music: “I like music in general, but if anything, classic rock.”
Ogden Wyatt – Gettysburg College (Swimming)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges: Gettysburg, Penn State, UConn, LSU
Reasons for choosing Gettysburg: “My brother went to Gettysburg, so I had a really close connection with the coach. I was comfortable with the campus and the facilities and the team. I went to visit my brother a couple of times, so I knew the team really well. I just felt more comfortable there over everywhere else.
“They’re the only D3 I was really looking at because they were strong in academics and athletics too. With D3, it will give me more availability to balance both school and athletics.”
What was the progression that led you to swimming at the collegiate level? “Before high school, our coach sat us down and started picking up the training and getting us prepared for the high school season. During the high school season, I really loved it and was like, ‘Wow, this is something I really want to do in college.’ I feel like I can have a really good college swimming career because I started getting really good towards the end of my high school career, and I really wanted to see how good I could actually get.”
Coach Geoff Scheuer says: “Where do I start with Ogden? He’s a kid of enormous personality, and he definitely brought a lot of flavor to the team. When he learned to work, he did some amazing things and was a crucial part of the team this year.
About Wyatt:
Favorite food: Red Beans & Rice (“It’s a New Orleans food, and I’m from New Orleans.”)
Favorite movie: Straight Outta Compton
Favorite music: Lupe Fiasco
